There's also much less of an audience for Spawn than ASM or a UF 4.  I'm not convinced a 9.8 copy would sell for more than 40k ir even 30k. I agree the rarity works against it , but this list has always been based on actual sales and not hypothetical ones.

In any event the fact a 9.6 sold for that much is impressive. Can’t wait to see what the 9.8 goes for

That's obviously a strong price but this book would have to beat 40K more than once to displace the 667 or the uf 4 even for the distant #2 spot.  And even though the uf 4 variant has dropped way down to 19k in a 9.8 that's still more than anything this book has ever sold for in any grade.   If I were to update the list now this sale  would get it to #3 based on the original criteria.

I think that if a 9.8 were to come to market then it’d have a shot of displacing the dellotto and for sure landing at #2 over the UF4. Though there’s clearly less of these than the asm given how few have transacted publicly.

Question on in person signings: I'm planning on attending NYCC and have a few books I'd like to get signed by attending artists: Fiumara, Artgerm, Sienkiewicz, etc.

When I go to the CGC table to get a witness, can that person come to witness all of the signings of the different artists at once, or do I have to do it one at a time, ie, go with the witness to the Artgerm table, then return to the CGC table for paperwork or whatever, then go back to the Sienkiewicz table with the next books, etc. ?

thx - this will be the 2nd con for me & my funko obsessed kiddo 👍

Depends on when they’re signing (check social media for signing times), length of creator line (the witness will let you know if they can go to next artist/writer or if they need to go back to cgc booth), and where the creator is, artist alley or main floor (witnesses are usually assigned to one area)

best advice I can give is do the ground work above (figure out where and when each person is signing before grabbing a witness) and you’ll have a very pleasant and efficient experience. Hope you have a great show !

So I have never seen this, from the retailer page: "INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED ON CGC LABEL # of 200...CGC will take possession of the entire print run and permanently dispose of any and all Overage."

Any idea what CGC's premium on this is? Custom labels and "disposing" of less than 9.8s?

Edge of venomverse 1 Martina ultimate edition (another grading company) would be a good barometer. This is the first book (I believe) where all copies were slabbed up to a certain qty

I heard a story where Topps loaded a barge with unsold Baseball cards in the early 50’s and had them hauled out and dumped in the Atlantic Ocean. Is this true or another one of those “urban legends”?

    I remember that article https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidseideman/2018/04/18/mint-2-5-million-mickey-mantle-card-nearly-dumped-in-the-atlantic/?sh=7f7532774791

Slightly off topic, I recently discovered that there's multiple direct editions of Gen 13 #2 and, from what I see on eBay, other issues in the Wildstorm Rising crossover. The direct edition with the barcode is the same price as the newsstand and printed on newsprint. It doesn't have a foil pack with two Wildstorm Gallery trading cards in it. The indica in all 3 is identical. They all say First Printing and state the regular direct and newsstand prices. Does anyone have any idea why these exist? Maybe there wasn't enough trading cards to include with the print run so they offered a more affordable version. Just speculating, we might never know.

This may be an example similar to what marvel was doing with their X-men (e.g., wolverine 88 “deluxe”) and age of apocalypse series. Offering the direct market a basic product for the collector who just wanted to read the story and another version for those that wanted the gimmicks (card inserts, foil cover, better paper stock, etc.)

I recall it as being a response to readers concern of the escalating price of comics as each month was some “special edition” holo-chrome-diecut edition of non key/event type book.
