I will always be bothered by 2nd, 3rd, 4th prints (etc) getting so much attention.  These books come out months after the 1st print and should thus not be allowed to count as a 1st appearance or key book.  They should be no different than re-prints.  I have a re-print of Incredible Hulk #181...should that still count as the 1st appearance of Wolverine?  Any value is purely a matter of rarity.

yes. your reprint is still the first appearance as presented in hulk 181... it's just not the "first edition", original, 1st print, whatever you want to call it. story wise, still the first appearance.

asm361 2nd print is still the first appearance of carnage. Its just printed differently (silver ink) than the first printing

but agree, why a later printing decides to take off over the original/first printing goes over my head.

Pretty solid haul today from a trip out of town... everything was $3-$5 aside from the Gambit. And yes, I did pay $16 for it. I think my heart skipped a beat when I found it, I wonder if they misplaced the decimal lol. I can’t tell you how many times over the last 20 years I’ve considered paying big money for that book. This has to be my favorite find in a good while, I’ve wanted this book since I started collecting over 20 years ago.

love that the Danger Girl has the original Another Universe (fka American Entertainment) price sticker.

Even if it was hundreds of thousands, that doesnt change the demand and future demand for the book. Again, look at sustained pricing on ASM300 considered by many a modern or copper grail.

it wouldn't impact demand, correct. But an increased supply could impact price.

It will be interesting to see how many more copies get added to the census over the next few months given the "Miles-Mania" we're in at the moment.

How many raws are ppl now sending, or planning, to send to CGC that they were originally not planning to but upon seeing realized prices they figure it's now worth it to... don't know that either
But it will be interesting to see where prices land in 3-6 months.
Looking at last two 9.8 sales, it would appear that prices are slightly softening given there are 20+ 9.8 copies available on ebay at the moment. Versus the highs of $1,300/$1,400 when there were maybe 4 or 5 9.8s listed.

Last BIN was 1145 and last auction was 945 for a 9.8 if that's any indication.

  4. We'll never know but I highly doubt there were only 75K were printed given how copies were distributed.

    - Anecdotally I heard copies were given away for free with each comic purchased during one of Diamond's variant blow out sales.
    - Ultimate Fallout 4 was heavily promoted for all printings, here's the ordering terms for the 1st & bagley 2nd print https://www.diamondcomics.com/Home/1/1/3/733?articleID=112249, you got a free Pichelli 2nd print with every order.
    - the 1:25 incentive variants for Ultimate Fallout 4 were part of the Diamond variant blow out sales as well as distributed in comic packs sold at five and below stores.

All this leads me to believe the print run was probably between 100K to 300K ... again we'll never know and I am spitballing.

This shows it was initially ordered at nearly the same levels as Flashpoint 4 and ASM 667 https://www.diamondcomics.com/Home/1/1/3/237?articleID=112771

    Other resources,
    - #1 reordered product for a few weeks meaning more was in stock,
    https://www.diamondcomics.com/Home/1/1/3/117?articleID=112141
    https://www.diamondcomics.com/Home/1/1/3/117?articleID=111646

    - it was also being reordered as late as December. So Diamond had stock on hand which would not be part of the initial copies sold in August comichron, https://www.diamondcomics.com/Home/1/1/3/237?articleID=116818
    - comichron shows 130K (and I also doubt that's 55K 2nd printings if we use the 75K number) sold thru 2011. https://www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales/2011.html ...

again, who knows how much Diamond was still sitting on going into 2012 and who knows how many were printed but I am fairly confident it was more than 75K.

New to the boards and obviously new to this thread. Big Campbell fan/collector. At one point whenever he came out with a cover I did everything I could to get my hands on a copy, but sometimes it didnt pan out. That became expensive so decided to somewhat focus my campbell collection on his "virgin" covers. Still have a long box of his covers with the title splash and havent had time to go through it to sell, but the very recent stuff, trying to stick to the virgin covers (obviously some exceptions is the virgin cover doesnt exist). Hope the backstory didn't bother you but heres some of my favorite campbell stuff I own.

Personally, I used to get the virgin covers signed but I felt like it took away from the art so I've been against getting the virgin covers signed.

Oh? Do you have an image of the Newsstand edition that's priced differently?

Think they meant that the $1.95 newsstand is priced different than the $2.50 direct edition, i.e., it's not just a different barcode that distinguishes the newsstand between the direct edition.

Would love to see a non-$1.95 newsstand edition (alas, I don't think it exists).

Extremely hard to find straight newsstand variant. I have been looking for one for years - I've only ever seen two, and only one in person, the one I have now.

so now what ?? what's next after spearing your white whale lol

but seriously, congrats!!! guess you can take down the 100 bounty at shoffs

People were saying that 5 years ago about this book.  People were saying that 10+ years ago about Batman 608RRP.  And yet here we are.  After 15 years of variants like those being produced during this Age of comics, it should surprise no one that a certain cream would rise to the top.

More recently - A book that was handed out at a convention and already has several hundred copies graded on the census in a manner of months with Mickey mouse on the cover is going for $1k.  Why?

Why not. People like Mickey mouse.

Incidentally, last I knew, Vincent at metro owned the OA of the Dell'otto 667, and he wanted $25k for it.  And that was 2-3 years ago when the last 9.8 slab of this book sold publicly for $10k.  Only one person can own an OA piece.  Only about 200 can own this comic.  But  their values are not relatively correlated however, because they are two different markets with different pricing/demand models.

whoops didn't read the whole thread... my bad.

2pm PST and the sets are still available.  If it's not the art...it's the down market...or the virus...or the fact that he's charging $130 for the unsigned set.  Honestly, $130?  No thanks.

I thought long on this one and decided to pass... $130 is too much imo even when the discount code gets you to $110. After tax and shipping you're back at 130

These releases are just too frequent and now that his store has a preferred facilitator/partner and grades their own books, it's tougher to get 9.8 candidates for the personal collection.

I love his art but starting to get fatigue on all the releases. Bring it back to just 2 or 3 cover releases that were just 50 or 60 bucks (yea... it's been a while since those xD )
