  1. It's interesting to note that the only thing John Landis was known for at that time was his film Schlock. Am I the only one here that visited Forest Ackerman (in the early 90s) and was taken down to his "Acker Museum" in his Hollywood Hill's home? His wife wouldn't let him have the horror stuff upstairs. It was an amazing space: props from 1925 film Metropolis,a letter with a story from 11 year old Stephen King. Wonder what happened to all that stuff.
  2. An internet search revealed that Witchcraft and Sorcery was a magazine in LA that came from the ashes of a magazine called Coven 13. I think the convention was the brainchild of Witchcraft and Sorcery editor
  3. I work on movie sets. Often times between long takes there is not much to do so one entertains oneself by looking through Set Decoration stuff. For example, an office set would have lots of files stuffed with papers, you know, like a real office. The papers are incredibly random stuff from where the Set Dec. Department gets them I have no clue: Court Papers, private letters, old bills, etc. The other day stuffed in a file I found a flyer for the Witchcraft & Sorcery Convention 1973 (along with a bunch of papers from the Count Dracula Society dated 1974). According to the flyer for the Witchcraft & Sorcery Convention it was held October 19 - 22 1973 at the Biltmore Hotel 515 South Olive Street, Los Angles. Cost to attend was $2.50. Display Tables were $20.00. Attending were: Ray Bradbury (autograph session Sat. 2-4pm) Also attending were "Noted TV Personality" Seymour. (no last name) A banquet for Ray Bradbury was Sunday at a cost of $8.50. Also attending were Bob Clampett who presented "new color slides from a trailer made in the 30s by Clampett and Edgar Rice Burroughs of the exploits of John Carter of Mars." On Saturday at 10pm was a panel of horror and science fiction films with Dr. Donald Reed, Barry Atwater (of Nightstalker fame); William Marshall (Blacula); John Agar (many famous fantasy films); Frank Salestri (producer); Rich Correll (actor-producer); John Landis (Producer); Ben Burtt, Jr. (producer). There were movies shown including "Brazilian Film Expert Norbert F. Novotny, discussing the art of translating and dubbing monster movies. There was a comic panel including Jack Kirby, Russ Manning, Carmine Infantino, Mike Royer, Terry Stroud, and Bob Clampett. There was a fantasy art show. Other speakers: A. E. van Vogt, famous s.f. writer; George Clayton Jonson, Star Trek Scripter; Don Glut, authority on Frankenstein; Ken Kruger, publisher; occult team, Jan & Mallory; Victoria Vandertuin, psychometry, Leo Quintanar, parapsychology; Jack Horner, reincarnation. Exhibit room contained: Books, Magazine, paintings, comics, sculptures, jewelry, occult supplies, psychic divinations, etc. "This is the place to purchase those collector items." There was a coronation pageant to "crown a Queen Witch and King Sorcerer" on Friday night. There were ESP Experiments with audience participation in extrasensory perception with a Psychometry Demonstration. Other Guests: Kirk (Superman) Alyn, Wendayne Ackerman, Robert Bloch, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Stu Byrne, Criswell (Predicts), D.C. Fontana, June Foray, Henry Hasse, E. Mayne Hull, Walter Koenig, C.L. Moore, Emil Peta Ja, Terri & Tom Pinckard, Frank Robinson, Ross Rocklynne, Bill Stout, Fred Whitledge. The Biltmore Hotel offered rooms for $18.00 (single) $23.00 (Doubles) only if you mention Witchcraft and Sorcery Convention.
  4. Torpedo just opened a store. I spoke with them on the phone about two weeks ago.
  5. … And wasn't the copy of Action #1 found in a random storage locker out in the Southern California desert years later? But by that time Cage had already been reimbursed by the insurance company. BTW, how do they know something is from Cage's personal collection?
  6. Bought Marvel Premiere 47: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=9580761&fpart=1 Everything everyone in this thread has said about this cat is right, absolute great experience.
  7. Wish I could find someone from Manassas, Virginia. Mine was Bill's Books and Things, late 70s. Was brought by a guy named Joe and became Joe's Books and Things. I worked there as a kid bagging comics and got paid in store credit. Joe moved to the Fairfax area. Opened a store there. He died of a heart attack many years ago. Come to think of it there was a store in Fredericksburg, Virginia called Maria's Books .Used to stay with my grandmother and walk there as a kid. I can't find a single thing on the internet about those comic shops. Maybe it was all a dream...
  8. I coulda gone right to CGC website which explains it. Sorry.
  9. Did a board search for "Missing Marvel Value Stamp" and came up with nothing so I figure it's ok to ask this question here: How much of a grade loss do you receive when CGC slabbing a book with a missing Marvel Value Stamp? Thanks.
  10. Thanks! I would PM him but this is my thinking: The individual is listing lots of books in cycles over several days. I'm thinking the seller is going to post all books then contact buyers. It seems quite a big endeavor to post w/pictures over a hundred books and I don't want to hassle him with a PM, just yet. I'm figuring the man is busy. I'm new here, want to begin buying more expensive books and don't want sellers to be weary of that fact I'm new so playing by rules and acquiring Kudos is important to me. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
  11. I have announced my first in the sales forum. I want to follow the rules and start acquiring Kudos so I can begin buying more and putting seller's minds at ease. Question: Is it my job to contact the seller and say, "What's your paypal address so I can send funds?" or do I wait for the seller to contact me? The seller does not have a paypal address listed in his opening page. I have not found rules about who contacts whom anywhere. Just want to play by the rules and buy comics.
  12. New comic on my want list. Story wise I have always liked the Rawhide Kid
  13. please explain. .... people will often buy a slabbed book that looks nicer than the grade and resubmit it in hopes of a higher (and more valuable...) grade. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) Thank you for your response
  14. From what I understand the amount that came in from SDCC was pretty epic When I called the other day regarding TAT for MFT, they said it was looking at 6 weeks. I just called today about a few submissions I made at SDCC and was told the current TAT for MFT is around three to three and a half months. I am hoping that was a mistake. they told me 4 and half months when I called yesterday For Modern Fast Track ?? I'm sorry. This is my first order sent to CGC, so I'm new at this. I did Modern (the $18.00 a book one for books 1975 and up) and when I called and inquired they said it would be 4 and a half months. So I'm seeing Modern Fast Track is a more expensive one, so no, not MFT.

  16. Doing a little research, St. Marks seems to have a big collection of back issues. Anyone been there? Thoughts? Thanks.
  17. On the third video did he REALLY rant for an hour and 21 minutes? If this is indicative of the type of guy Brittany has to deal with on a daily basis, yes, she deserves a huge raise. ...I also love the "unabomber" backdrop in his video... via Imgflip Meme Generator He did. I watch the entire thing. He took the book and question from a nearby shelve and returned it and took it back out to show the camera about 75 times. He compared his banning from CGC to saying something bad about the brand of cigarettes he smokes (Marlboro menthols) and being banned from buying them and saying something bad about the bottled water he was drinking (Porland) and being banned from them. He feels this is America and he can say something bad about CGC and not get banned. He's ready to explore a serious relationship with the other two comic grading companies. He happily admits to using salty language but you should not be surprised because that is just the way he talks. He compared himself to an everyman who eats donuts like everyone else. He does not want anyone to worry about his health. Although his blood pressure is up over this CGC thing, he remains very sound physically. He has several "mega-resposibilities" coming up in life and doesn't have the time for the run around he feels he got from CGC.
  18. Watching the video I was reminded of the film "King Of Comedy" when Robert Deniro has the fake talk show in his basement.
  19. I'm sorry. I'm very new to this and this is a serious question: You have to pay Stan Lee to sign whatever? I guess it makes sense, if the price of a book is going to go up by a lot, he should get the cash
  20. I'm thinking about just going for it. It's one book. I have the money and I'm not going to miss the money. 20 years is going to pass by if I buy the book or not. I'm not betting my future on it, not trying to send my kids to college with the investment and have no expectations going in. Just curious to see if prices continue to rise re: this issue over the next two decades. the book has been incredibly collectable as far back as the early 80's when I started reading comics. I've always wanted it.
