  1. … And wasn't the copy of Action #1 found in a random storage locker out in the Southern California desert years later? But by that time Cage had already been reimbursed by the insurance company. BTW, how do they know something is from Cage's personal collection?
  2. Bought Marvel Premiere 47: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=9580761&fpart=1 Everything everyone in this thread has said about this cat is right, absolute great experience.
  3. Wish I could find someone from Manassas, Virginia. Mine was Bill's Books and Things, late 70s. Was brought by a guy named Joe and became Joe's Books and Things. I worked there as a kid bagging comics and got paid in store credit. Joe moved to the Fairfax area. Opened a store there. He died of a heart attack many years ago. Come to think of it there was a store in Fredericksburg, Virginia called Maria's Books .Used to stay with my grandmother and walk there as a kid. I can't find a single thing on the internet about those comic shops. Maybe it was all a dream...
  4. I coulda gone right to CGC website which explains it. Sorry.
  5. Did a board search for "Missing Marvel Value Stamp" and came up with nothing so I figure it's ok to ask this question here: How much of a grade loss do you receive when CGC slabbing a book with a missing Marvel Value Stamp? Thanks.
  6. Thanks! I would PM him but this is my thinking: The individual is listing lots of books in cycles over several days. I'm thinking the seller is going to post all books then contact buyers. It seems quite a big endeavor to post w/pictures over a hundred books and I don't want to hassle him with a PM, just yet. I'm figuring the man is busy. I'm new here, want to begin buying more expensive books and don't want sellers to be weary of that fact I'm new so playing by rules and acquiring Kudos is important to me. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
  7. I have announced my first in the sales forum. I want to follow the rules and start acquiring Kudos so I can begin buying more and putting seller's minds at ease. Question: Is it my job to contact the seller and say, "What's your paypal address so I can send funds?" or do I wait for the seller to contact me? The seller does not have a paypal address listed in his opening page. I have not found rules about who contacts whom anywhere. Just want to play by the rules and buy comics.
  8. New comic on my want list. Story wise I have always liked the Rawhide Kid
  9. please explain. .... people will often buy a slabbed book that looks nicer than the grade and resubmit it in hopes of a higher (and more valuable...) grade. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) Thank you for your response
  10. From what I understand the amount that came in from SDCC was pretty epic When I called the other day regarding TAT for MFT, they said it was looking at 6 weeks. I just called today about a few submissions I made at SDCC and was told the current TAT for MFT is around three to three and a half months. I am hoping that was a mistake. they told me 4 and half months when I called yesterday For Modern Fast Track ?? I'm sorry. This is my first order sent to CGC, so I'm new at this. I did Modern (the $18.00 a book one for books 1975 and up) and when I called and inquired they said it would be 4 and a half months. So I'm seeing Modern Fast Track is a more expensive one, so no, not MFT.

  12. Doing a little research, St. Marks seems to have a big collection of back issues. Anyone been there? Thoughts? Thanks.
  13. On the third video did he REALLY rant for an hour and 21 minutes? If this is indicative of the type of guy Brittany has to deal with on a daily basis, yes, she deserves a huge raise. ...I also love the "unabomber" backdrop in his video... via Imgflip Meme Generator He did. I watch the entire thing. He took the book and question from a nearby shelve and returned it and took it back out to show the camera about 75 times. He compared his banning from CGC to saying something bad about the brand of cigarettes he smokes (Marlboro menthols) and being banned from buying them and saying something bad about the bottled water he was drinking (Porland) and being banned from them. He feels this is America and he can say something bad about CGC and not get banned. He's ready to explore a serious relationship with the other two comic grading companies. He happily admits to using salty language but you should not be surprised because that is just the way he talks. He compared himself to an everyman who eats donuts like everyone else. He does not want anyone to worry about his health. Although his blood pressure is up over this CGC thing, he remains very sound physically. He has several "mega-resposibilities" coming up in life and doesn't have the time for the run around he feels he got from CGC.
  14. Watching the video I was reminded of the film "King Of Comedy" when Robert Deniro has the fake talk show in his basement.
  15. I'm sorry. I'm very new to this and this is a serious question: You have to pay Stan Lee to sign whatever? I guess it makes sense, if the price of a book is going to go up by a lot, he should get the cash
  16. I'm thinking about just going for it. It's one book. I have the money and I'm not going to miss the money. 20 years is going to pass by if I buy the book or not. I'm not betting my future on it, not trying to send my kids to college with the investment and have no expectations going in. Just curious to see if prices continue to rise re: this issue over the next two decades. the book has been incredibly collectable as far back as the early 80's when I started reading comics. I've always wanted it.
  17. I hope I didn't come off as a pure speculator. I'm not really interested in buying books that I don't care for, even if money was to be made in a small flip. I read Mrs Marvel back in the day (70s & 80s) a little and it was terrible. I understand the concept: movie coming out, prices should go up. I'm just going to get books I like. Hope for the best in the next 20 years, if I live that long. Just paying too much now is the concern. thanks all
  18. I know. It was more just a general all around question. I dunno Seeing a book like X-men 94 CDC 9.8 sell for $27,000 in 2010 and now sell for $16,000 is terrifying (and slightly suspect).
  19. My astronomical bid just got declined for that key investment high grade book I wrote about in my first post above. I've been informed I'm welcome to make a higher bid. Seeing a book like X-men 94 CDC 9.8 sell for $27,000 in 2010 and now sell for $16,000 is terrifying (and slightly suspect). Should I do it? Or should I run and never return?
  20. Brand new here. I'm 50. Began reading comics in the late 70s early 80's. Stopped in the late 80's as I felt the stories were getting weak and the prices were becoming astronomical for new books. (I remember an Electra Miller book that was a hardcover that was about 25$ and I thought it was terrible. This along with all the variant cover books made me bail on the hobby. Mostly I thought the stories got weak and I was always a reader before a collector. I put stuff in bags, sure, but there was always a level of cognitive dissidence in me because it seemed the collector mentality was killing it all. Look at a comic con now and a comic convention in the early 80's that was held in a local armory. Just my Opinion. ) Up to that time I had several nice books but sold them when encountering some $$ problems in the late 90's. I thought (and still do) the Miller Daredevil stuff (DD 159 - 182) were the pentacle of the art form. Enjoyed Miller's DarkKnight Returns, BatMan Year One, and Moore's Swamp Thing and Watchmen, also. Like Marshall Rodger's Batman stuff from the 70s. I've tried to read comics again and find them incredibly lacking (New Miller Darknight is awful. Wein's new Swamp thing is ok. Come to think of it, Miller's stuff has consistently sucked since the late 80's. In the 90's I started reading Drawn and Quarterly stuff (Chester Brown, Seth) and Fantagraphics stuff (Clowes and Bagge) and sort of stayed with that stuff. Regardless, I've got some cash and am looking to make an investment in some key book(s). I'm aware of the rabbit hole this hobby can become and I'm sorta of the mindset not to fall into it. I'm a fairly disciplined adult. Although I used to read comics, unfortunately, this time around I think I'm just here for speculative/investment purposes. As stated above, they don't seem well written these days. I'm looking at a key issue, about to pluck down some cash and resolve to keep the book for the next 20-25 years and hopefully make some cash in my later age All this CDC slabbed books stuff is entirely new to me. Comics that are graded the same seem to be different: centered different, ticks in spin, etc. Books that are graded the same seem to be of various degrees of pleasing to the eye. It's a different world now in comics and it's weird to me. anyways, hello.
