Hopefully something happens soon, as an IATSE member i've been out of work since mid-June. Kinda liked the summer vacation but this needs to end

Same here. It's very bad. I'm watching people lose their homes, health insurance for themselves and their children. I'm ok, but for a lot IATSE folks I know, it's utterly devastating.

I did not know.  Normally people ask if they can take a picture or interview.

I get it,  they want "real"

"real" depends on your reality I suppose. Not cool in my book. Not to mention you become the content (for free) they sell to however Youtube $-metrics work.

There are so many issues with the Dealers are not your friend video that I wouldn't know where to begin.

First,  Define the term "Deal".  To this video reporter that could mean Dealer Eats A Loss.  Could mean 12 month GPA,  90 day,  last sale GPA or the Overstreet price guide.  I need to be that guy that you can show off the "haul to" where you the viewer can see how many Deals I got from sellers.

Second,  the main aisle to the side aisle commentary.  Well,  I was a side aisle dealer with main aisle books.  I guess I fall into the "Don't buy from anybody with big ticket books".

Third,  I'm not exactly sure how teared up I would get if people didn't recognize me from my you tube video's.  I guess in the South it isn't enough to get Is there anything I can help you with?  I've got to tell you that I love watching your video's?

Fourth,  Conflict of interest.  First off I'm not sure I can make a video stating "Dealers are not your friends" when you openly admit that you setup as a dealer.  Your example that both buyers and sellers are "tense" is created by the promoter by the way.  I didn't realize it was my job to soothe that tension by making you some money that covers the promoters cost of you getting in.  My responsibility as a seller is to have the inventory buyers want to buy,  prices that they may want to pay and the ability to get them the books that they need.  The idea that I want to take every dollar out of your pocket is your "perception".  If you operate that way you won't have many customers long term.

Looking to sell that one big book versus a bunch of small ones?  Huh?  Big book sales normally don't take place at shows but there are buyers who come to see the book and then do the deal in private.  Most big buyers prefer what they buy be private versus showcasing to whoever is at the booth what they have and what they spend.  If you don't treat big buyers with respect they don't buy from you.  Being known as a UNDERTAKER is not a good reputation to have.

CGC books in Mylar are not a way to make the product look better.  CGC books in mylar or any bag for that matter are because those "tense" buyers don't want scratches on the holder.  God forbid that holder has a rub,  it the book is a 9.8 that outer well that means nothing to the grade better be perfect to.  As others have stated a good dealer should take the book out of any bag it is in.

And yes I do consider Lou to be a very good friend who I have known for years.  There are a lot of people in this hobby/business that I am friends with.

did you know this insufficiently_thoughtful_person was filming you? Filming someone with their consent is very telling of the person doing the filming.

Not Mark Jewelry but Mark Jeweler.  They were one of the early variants.  They targeted military personnel with low-cost Jewelry and twice-monthly payment plans to coincide with their military paychecks.   The inserts were primarily put into books that were distributed on military bases.  Meaning that their survival rates were low, and their history was intriguing.

Ok, cool. I get it. Thank you.

  6. I volunteered with the guy at the local comic shop I like to help him set up and man his booth at a con. I wanted to see first hand what is was like.

It was labor intensive moving in. It was annoying and exhausting talking to 75% of the mentally challenged that came up to strike a conversation with me behind the counter and not but anything

I respect most dealers at cons, severely. The others I stay away from.

wonder if this You Tube   r e t a r d  had ever done one day of manual labor in his life.

Strong price for the CGC 7.5 copy that ended at Hakes tonight.  Hammer price was a shade under $171k.  Where's Batmanis#1 to comment on this!?

Is that a strong price? I don't even know anymore. Batman#1 is an imbecile.

Very odd post to make. Definitely no piles anywhere.

I've lived in Hollywood for three and a half decades. It's a dump. It consists only of the homeless, drug addicts, shops selling stripper clothes and clueless tourists looking for something that doesn't exist and never has (with pockets full of money they take out and display with abandon) and vacuously staring at Michael Jackson's star on the sidewalk like it's gonna get up and dance or something.

  9. I'm thinking about getting into pressing and restoration. More time on my hands as the writers are still on strike. Send me your books. I think I'd would do good work. For a while I was into vintage TimeX watches and I had a Timex from the 1960s that was all gunked up and would not keep a wind. I tried everything to fix it until I had the thought one day, "Why not throw it into a pot of boiling water?" So I did, let it boil for about 20 minutes pulled it out and it runs perfectly now. I have a natural talent for restoration work.

So I'm going to start pressing and restoring books. BM me for prices. I guarantee quick turnaround.
