  1. Yup, same here per my comment above. When I open a package if my first inclination isn't to frame it I know its getting sold
  2. Pretty amazing how many black holes there seem to be in these hobbies. Stuff sells, regret sets in, it never appears again.
  3. I have been a collector my entire adult life but also generally hate the weight of owning stuff, an odd mix of factors for sure. I find I have to really be honest with myself about what is truly vault level material I will stretch for vs not. And the reality is very little is vault level material, ie, the "buried with it" type of stuff. And yet my circumstances have allowed me to play around in the field, perhaps a bit too much. At the price levels we are at now pretty much anything is "real money" in the grand scheme of things. I just sent a box with 23k worth of stuff in it to Heritage. I will be happy to get a check for 10k for it all in 6 months time. What were the mistakes I made? First, buying anything from a dealer that isn't "buried with it" type of stuff. This is especially the case for anything not super mainstream. Second, buying anything fresh to market, as in, coming from an artist's hands or from a deep, legacy collection. The hype surrounding those types of lots is hard to recoup unless you hold for a long time.
  4. Do you get the flutter of butterflies in your stomach and heart palpitations too I can hear my heart beat in my ears during live bidding a lot I really want. Full reptile brain.
  5. Yeah, while CL may have made no changes or improvements to their site over the last 20 years eBay has invested heavily in making their experience for the buyer and seller worse, so I guess CL wins there
  6. I always assumed it was long time friends, people who aren't that active in the hobby, and the increasingly high number of people turned away by heritage.
  7. There's also the risk of the plotline in 11.22.63 where you catch a beating at an inopportune time.
  8. You are in the minority. A story and outrage so ridiculous I almost think they did it on purpose to drum up more buzz.
  9. I'm the type of guy that checks the signature auction listings 6 months in advance as they slowly populate the listings. I don't even open the catalogs they send me, I toss them into the recycling unopened.
  10. With Gimenez Metabarons pages I debate whether its better to have an issue 1 page with empty word balloons or a page from a later issue where the lettering is inked in, but in French
  11. One thing is clear, CC is the place to auction Elfquest color art, totally destroyed HA with recent listings, some real head scratchers.
  12. One of my very earliest memories was playing on the sidewalk with the neighbor's Space 1999 space ship and him mentioning this new movie called Star Wars. I was 3-4 at the time.
  13. Bottom line https://www.sheridanfuneralhomeva.com/obituaries/kevin-brogan
  14. Williamson put an amazing effort forward for the work he did on BR, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Buscema on Conan and ROTLA on the other hand...
  15. Movie adaptations were my entry point into comic OA, Conan in particular. I suspect there are a fair number of people coming from toy collecting and other 3D collecting pop culture areas into the hobby. I have no real interest in superhero art but have come to appreciate the artists. So for people interested in comic art and Kirby, the 2001 book is a nice sweet spot. Logan's Run, Island of Doctor Moreau, Star Wars, ESB, ROTJ, Blade Runner, 3 Indy films, both Conan films, etc. I sold most of this to fund a Warhammer art addiction, where I found I could still buy the art from the artist's hands, but still have 3 Blade Runner pages, including the recently acquired dps by Williamson. Wish I had stretched for the BR2 cover when HA had it, wish I had been involved when CL auctioned the Buscema Conan 1 cover (pre Arnold sig), wish I had stretched last year on the Hake's SW try-outs by Williamson...there's a pattern here That said, no way I'd be into the Treasury 2001 at these prices. Later run pages could be had in the 3-4k range recently though no idea if that is still the case. I think the weird, cosmic, metaphysical pages are the sweet spot more so than multi-paneled talking men pages.
  16. Thanks for this. I just signed my first consignor agreement at 15% and felt a bit like a fool. Its not great stuff I am sending but it totals to around 15-20k across lots.
  17. Red Nails would go bonkers. I wish I could find a Snow Giants Daughter page, which are out there.
  18. Scheduled for release right after the Dragonlance and Elfquest movies......................................
  19. This has to be one of the best glow-ups I have seen going from published cover to OA. Its like they rubbed a thin layer of gray mud over this before sending it to the printer.
  20. According to some the 70s and 80s were the last time American cities were clean and great though...
  21. Anyone get a recent renewal notice from collectinsure? My policy went from $452 to $812, no claims or changes.
  22. His prices will likely be good, no? Given the general tone here I think most don't have a problem at all with RWD.
  23. Thank you for asking. I now know I am not alone in seeing this referenced constantly and having no clue.
  24. I actually think the one of one factor keeps pricing down, elevates the knowledge barrier to entry, "dumb money" isn't attracted as easily, etc.
  25. I agree with all these comments about politics and yet find myself trying to infer which side everyone is on
