  1. Another question for the group. Given the low number of these how much does page quality affect values? Clearly a W or OW/W PQ is preferred over C/OW pages but I was curious what people thought about this in their valuations. Chris
  2. I can't stop staring at the head of the unicorn in the top right panel...
  3. The vast majority of the 2008 books were blue ballpoint pen. Chainnball or one of the attendees could elaborate as the whys and wherefores. Personally, I wouldn't have cared if he had put a crayon in his armpit. --S. Fair enough, thanks for the information.
  4. I would have happily paid those prices. Someone got a great deal. Those are unbelievably weak prices. I don't know what it is going to take for people to understand that the SS market is unique. If you choose venues like C-Link or Heritage you are virtually guaranteed to miss a big chunk of the market. I need to pay attention more. I don't do the big auctions so I didn't even know they were listed. It couldn't have helped that the titles of the listings didn't even mention Frazetta. Just "Creepy #3 Signature Series". Killer marketing job, Heritage. I sold these in private sales for higher prices...... wow weak results. I would love to add your four Creepys for near these prices
  5. Did the 2008 signing use a ball point pen? I always assumed we had the markers (silver/gold) for darker covers and some kind of fine ink pen for these Vamp 1s. But the more I look at these sigs the more they look like a standard old BIC pen. Can that be? Maybe I am too anal about the signatures here.
  6. Yup, this is the one. I'd be too busy looking at Raymond's sumptuous brushwork to care about a misplaced leg. But hey, maybe the big collectors will be equally irritated by it and I'll finally be able to win a Flash Gordon from Raymond's peak period. I'm not holding my breath. Rookie here, did a closed Heritage search and WOW! I understand the basis of the rationale that certain genres (Tarzan, Sword and Sorcery) have seen their best days. But I don't see much wind in the sails of Flash Gordon and these pieces are selling for 6 figures. Ditto for Prince Caspian.
  7. Thanks I could not find this piece. HA's search sort of sucks until the auction is fully loaded. I have items on track that do not appear in my list for some reason, eager beaver syndrome, I suppose. I too was thinking it was the 1939 piece and people were being harsh. You can kind of stare at the bottom left panel in the 1939 piece and see the right thigh maybe doesn't quite turn right. But this 1936 piece, wow, that is crazy.
  8. Considering the piece comes from Raymond's absolute peak period, it will have zero impact on the demand for this piece. Is this the piece being discussed? https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/alex-raymond-flash-gordon-sunday-comic-strip-original-art-dated-11-12-39-king-features-synd/p/7158-92008.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515
  9. Great stuff, the ink almost looks 3D or elevated on the sig. Is that an optical illusion?
  10. Anyone happen to have their Eddie Campbell From Hell price list? I could email I suppose but after reading here I feel like I used to when asking prices from a Parisian oceanic art dealer.
  11. Yeah I am pretty sure I only pulled data on Frazetta sigs. Some have more than Frazetta sigs on them. The 9.4 was a Frazetta/Adam sig, for example.
  12. Personally I don't think this was a great deal; a good deal yes but not great IMO. I was also underbidder on a 5.5 that closed at around 1200. But people in his thread seem to value these higher than I. GPA results for this book, other 7.0s in bold; quite a spread: 5000, 9.4, June 2015; 2800, 8.5, Jan 2013; 2060, 8.0, Feb 2014; 510, 7.5, June 2009; 2700, 7.0, Sept 2016; 810, 7.0, Jan 2013; 1000, 5.5, Feb 2012; 1195, 5.5 Nov 2016 Perhaps I rely too much on GPA for my valuation but I don't have much historical experience with these books. That said, I didn't cost the winner much with my bid as a 3rd person was right behind me, so the value seems well supported at 2k.
  13. I was under bidder, set a snipe, then parents arrived for dinner a bit early. Bummed.
  14. My pieces came from Heritage and I was wondering if these are due for a re-casing given how long they have been in the current slabs? These are the first (and onl)y graded books I have ever owned (I guess I started well). Another question, would upgrading to the new cases diminis the pieces in any way? Thanks, Chris
  15. The lots did come up when searching for Frazetta by keyword. I should have made a play for the Eerie and Vampi, sort of kicking myself now. Amazing how much lot ordering matters to how you structure your bidding.
  16. Oakman, now that we have a price for the 9.8 (circa 1k), what does a 9 to 9.2 go for?
  17. Given how long the last three days of auctions were its easy to get sidetracked. Over 8 hours of auctions just yesterday. The Creepy 9 is odd to me. A 9.8 but with writing on an interior page. I love this cover and there is only one other 9.8 in the registry (as I recall) but I may be resigning myself to solid but not top copies given the cost savings.
  18. Yes there was an Eerie 5 and Vampi 1 as well. I was underbidder on the Eerie. If listed in a different order I likely would have skipped the Creepy 3 and gone for the 27 and Eerie 5.
  19. Creepy 3 (9.2) and 27 (9.6) for 2688 total, much lower than prices quoted typically. Heritage
  20. Anyone else score tonight? I picked up both Creepys at prices I don't think I can complain about. Wish I had gone more for the Eerie as those seem much less common.
  21. Is there a strong rationale for why CL won't let you do a macro search of all listings? Or am I doing something wrong?
  22. Any update on the Frazetta prelims. Would like to see it on the wall (as suggested by OP) and also, you did mention prelim(s) plural...
  23. Curious if restoration and other issues that vex newbies like myself are relevant to the magazines like Creepy and Vampirella? Chris
