  1. I clicked on this to see some white pages but all I see are covers of entombed comics. What a rip off.

I was just reading a timely comedy comic the other night where the entire comic was folded wrong so the top half the comic is a half inch wider overhang than the bottom half and then the cover was stapled on crooked so it has a quarter inch overhang on an angle. Comics were printing very badly and cheaply and quality control was almost non existent. it was some problem in the binding of it or they had a problem with something and just threw in some already trimmed covers in there and bound them on not caring they weren't trimmed properly. No one cared
  4. For me everything really. Though I did read some Lev Gleason comics recently again and they are too wordy and everyone worships EC's but I find most too wordy. The best comics tell the story mostly through the visuals. Old comics though aren't for everyone. I remember trying to get my brother to read some old comics years ago and it did not go well. Same with when I try and get people to watch old movies with me, especially b-movies or old serials, it always fails big time and no one can take it. No one likes that old b-movie acting or dialogue any more and old comics are kind of the same.
  5. How about a ridiculous cover? I never care about the logic in comics it's not important at all, but then there is this cover. Is Hot Stuff buried under ground? Is the ground sliced and he is next to the it? What the heck is going on?
  6. Yep Chambers drew probably half of the Ribtickler giant and it's in his super fast reefer style. He would lock himself in his apartment with tons of weed and heroin and crank out an entire 52 comic or more over a weekend. Funny animal comics are the most interesting to me, most were done by animators from Fleischer and Terrytoons on the side for some extra money. All the animation studios and comic publishers were within walking distance of each other in New York. Ferstadt was a big time New York guy, had many newspaper strips going, did tons of mural work all around New York so I am sure he was doing some comic book work on the side for anyone too. Publishers would also just buy art from basically anyone that came in and it seems really didn't care at all about what funny animal stuff they published so you get this crazy off the wall stuff that borders on outsider art , art brut stuff that's completely out there and nuts. For some reason it all got reigned in by 1950. All that stuff disappeared and everything became really bland and predictable. Even Ellis Chambers' early and mid 1950s stuff is almost unrecognizable, the life is gone out of it. I guess publishers and editors stopped just accepting and publishing anything at all and demanded some sanity for some reason. Most likely to try and compete with the slick Disney comics which were the best selling comics selling in the millions per issue. it's a shame.
  7. The Ribticker fox giant is full of really weird awesome stuff and I think it might hold the record for most suicides in one comic book. There are four suicides in this comic, two in one story alone
  8. Just some kid whose name starts with B putting their name on their comics most likely. 30 years ago I bought a box of old comics that all had a cursive L on the covers. They all belonged to a kid name Lawrence.
  9. Is there anything in there that hasn't been seen before? I have at least two books on EC comics so do i really need this one? For 200 bucks there better be something amazing in there I have't seen before. The preview pages are all images I have seen and just more cover images. I think it's great, but still how many books on EC, DC and Marvel do we need? I want some books on the history of other publishers, like Fox Features for example. Publishers like that are fascinating with all the illegal activity and mob ties and everything. Victor Fox was a nut. I guess we never will get any comprehensive books on anything else ever because no one ever cared and everyone involved is long dead and never were interviewed at all. EC has been obsessed over for 60 years so we know everything already.
  10. Wertham didn't have that much affect at all really, only for very brief time and then comic books were back to selling millions per issue again and fine and 99 percent of kids didn't care. People seem to forget that no adults cared about this back then or thought it was a bad thing that comics were under attack. Comic books were for kids and kids didn't even know about the code or cared. They just wanted some comics and comics never went away. Really the best thing to come out of it all was those few pissed off kids that loved ECs and stuff and saw them be killed off and then in the late 60s started the underground comics movement that changed everything.
  11. This coming from the millionaire who makes like 20 million a year and probably owns tons of huge houses with tons of wasted space and cars and boats. I never counted anything I have, but I have to have 2000 comics at least, 1500 records, easily a thousand pulps and old magazines, 1000 books, hundreds of 16mm and 8mm films, countless old toys and other things.
  12. Comics, like anything, are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If someone want's to pay more for some comic for whatever reason, what do I care?
  13. Has anyone ever seen these? They are probably just cheap generic things with a Blue Beetle sticker slapped on them, but I always have wondered what they look like and hoping they were some cool thing with the Blue Beetle sculpted into the plastic. Especially the camera because says it comes in a "neat colorful decorated box" which I always imagined as this cool thing with Blue Beetle graphics on it.
  14. I'd still want these and read these over any modern marvel and dc crud and I like 80s healthcliff comics, good fun stuff.
  15. Sorry but that is ugly and I won't be getting this book. I like my reprints as close to the original printing as possible. Just scan it and adjust the contrast and stuff a little and print it. Fantagraphics is pretty much the only one that reprints old comics right at all. For some reason everyone else loves to mess with the artwork and recolor everything.
  16. I think it just depends who drew it or maybe just whatever mood the artist was in because looking at all Superman covers on every title from the 40s and 50s it is not constant at all. Sometimes the S is there, sometimes not. When it is there sometimes it is all yellow, sometimes blue and yellow, sometimes red and yellow. sometimes red and blue. I don't think anyone cared and I doubt there was some master model sheet or anything anyone followed. Speaking of that, in the 1940-43 Fleischer animated shorts there is no S on his cape at all not on the model sheets either.
  17. I never bought any comic related shirts, but when I got a scanner and printer like 25 years ago I got some tshirt transfer paper stuff and made some of my own shirts. They are long gone now, but one was Mad #11 with the Basil Wolverton cover and some R Crumb panels and I forget what else. I accidentally printed the image mirrored on the Mad one, but it was somehow better that way
