Kevin, If I purchase one ticket for the Jim Lee experience, can my wife and both get in? We only want to get 3 things signed, not 6

I did the Jim Lee experience a couple of years ago. I would assume it is the same, but Kevin can correct me. You each need to buy an entry ticket to the show, but I saw other people joining others in the line for the Jim Lee experience. Obviously like you said, it's for one person (autographs, lithograph and so on), but a wife or girlfriend could be in line with you.

Umbrella Academy is on really on fire. I sold my FCBD in under an hour at full BIN. I mean its just a Netflix show, but man
has it caused demand to sky rocket.

Immortal Hulk is really on fire too. Sold a couple at BIN within hours of listing.

Damn, I wish CGC would allow us to add fast track after submission. I have a couple UA #1's and a couple FCBD pristine copies that I got signed by Ba at NYCC, but I had them pressed and didn't do FT. I thought they would be done and back to me by the time the show started, but they aren't. I should have them soon, but market might slow by then. Oh well.

i only have 3.  so again. i dont know who you are referring to ?  i just cant believe you experts can tell if a book is fake by a couple of iphone pics.

anyways.......i took a quick drive to cgc this past weekend and used their walk thru service.

i got mine back from cgc today.  i hope you guys like the scans.  sorry about the watermark guys.

    Totally Photoshopped.

  4. I sold a couple Deadly Class #1 signed books (the FP variant and the regular cover). I did ok on those. Made a little bit. What I've noticed is that it just drives the sales of the books up, but not necessarily the prices that much. I have some UA #1's that CGC is about to send me (I didn't time them well by not fast tracking them) so hopefully there will still be some activity when I get them. I bought those raw back right when the show was announced and got them fairly cheap. With current pricing, I'll make a decent profit.

I think both of these shows (I've been watching both) just don't have big audiences yet too. Give them some time. Word of mouth should help. They are both quality shows. Deadly Class being on SYFY doesn't help it.

What are the chances of Immortal Hulk making it to a solo movie someday? Or Netflix/Hulu/etc... I don't get this hype at all.

Huge red flags on this one for me.

With a bunch of these Marvel actors retiring their capes and so many companies looking for content, I think the newer characters have chances to get into the future movies. Same for DC (movies/shows). Not at all saying it will happen for this one, but I think its what is driving a lot of this. You look at even properties outside Marvel making it to Netflix, Hulu and others starting to popup. Content is being grabbed up. Is it really worth anything? Probably not.

It will be interesting to see what happens if these newer characters get into ensemble movies, solo movies, shows and so on, but dont do anything. Then, they resurrect the classics (Cap, Ironman, Wolvie and so on). If so, you'll see a crash hard. A lot of this stuff is inflated for sure. Every once in a while something might hit and could be a long termer, but it will probably be rare. Personally, I think the Batman Who Laughs could be one that lasts, but it will depend on if they can get him into some movies/shows.

No, this is how they always list books. They list the book's grade at the start, in this case fair or 1.0, and near the end they list the Overstreet value for the nearest increment(s). You can see the comp books listed all say "FR 1.0."

At the end it says GD 2.0 value is $2,400. I can see how that can be confusing. Could have confused the person who purchased it. Who knows.

Suffice to say, the business of selling raw books and estimating the grade is a huge gray area. Ebay is full of it and its a tough area to play as a buyer and seller. I try to avoid it as both.

Ive never sold a raw book and I've bought some, been burned a few times by it. Bought one that had restoration that wasn't in the listing. But, I have no way to know if the person selling knew it did.

In this case, do we even know its the same person? The person who bought the Heritage auction could have immediately taking it and sold it to a shop, then the shop put it up on ebay. Not saying thats the case, but there could be other scenarios too.

    where do you see 2.0?

On Heritages Page it says the comic is  "Fair"....I thought Fair was 1.0?

I think their auction description was screwed up:

"The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, 1963) Condition: FR. Spider-Man's origin is retold. First Fantastic Four crossover. First appearances of John Jameson, J. Jonah Jameson, and the Chameleon. Steve Ditko cover and art. Currently ranks #7 on Overstreet's list of Top 50 Silver Age Comics. Overstreet 2018 GD 2.0 value = $2,400. "

Hey Just hoping somebody with a little more Knowledge of The Business side of comics could help me out here...

I ran across something, and I cant quite figure out the endgame here...

so I found this ASM #1 selling on Ebay ---https://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Amazing-SPIDER-MAN-1-Marvel-Comics-est-2-5-GD-1st-ORIGIN-CHAMELEON/202578186321?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3De51a8f574e144bbd8be593a68a1eff0d%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D162404346574%26itm%3D202578186321&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

....as soon as I saw it I recognized it....I was looking through Heritage the other day, I saw this ASM #1 sold just 3 months--https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/the-amazing-spider-man-1-marvel-1963-condition-fr/a/121840-11220.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515

Obviously its the same exact book.

So I'm assuming, someone bought this book with the attentions of Flipping it...because It makes no sense to buy it and sell it within 3 months if it was personal..

but what I dont understand is why the person bought it at all as an Investment?

It sold on Heritage for $4500.00 and was graded as FAIR...

yet Now The Seller has it listed as a 2.5 on EBay...

So its clear The buyer is intentionally lying about the grade to try and get more money.

do you think this was the plan all along...the buyer bought the book from heritage with the intentions of Lying about the grade to try flip it?

But, I don't know if you can consider it lying about the grade. the 2.0 was what Heritage graded it as. Once someone buys it, if they decide to sell it, when its raw, they can sell it and sell it with what "they" think the grade is. It is up to an informed buyer to estimate what they think the grade is (ESPECIALLY when spending that kind of money).

At such a low grade, a half a grade can really be opinion too. Maybe the guy pressed it? Or cleaned it in some way? Who knows, but based on the two links, I dont think there is enough to say the person is lying. This is the exact reason CGC and reputable grading companies exist.

  9. High concept being something with a hook thats pretty unique and if you tell somebody the plot in a sentence or two, most think it's interesting.

Ex. "A chemistry teacher finds out he has cancer and starts to make meth to make money for his family."

If you read the logline or description of Southern Bastards, it just sounds too similar to something you've seen before ("Walking Tall", "Friday Night Lights").

Why the face palm?  It's the toughest cover and rarely pops up on ebay.  When it does, it seems to be going up in value based on what I have observed (this version, not all covers).  It's not setting the woods on fire like some other major modern keys, but it seems to be on an upward trajectory.  I thought this thread was about uncovering gems that are due to breakout, not pointing them out after they have peaked.

Even if the show idea fizzles, there is also talk of a movie.  The property is on Hollywood's radar.

Yeah, its a good book if the show takes off. I bought it pretty cheap and got it signed a couple years ago (there was show buzz then too). I got some cover A #1's pretty cheap but won't get those signed unless there is movement on the show.

This is one of those that just has buzz that seems to always fizzle. The problem with it is that Hollywood is all about "high concept" and this one really isn't. Its a great read and I like the story, but doesn't really have the "hook" Hollywood wants. I think thats why it hasn't gotten made yet.

Batman Damned 2 seems like a non-mover. Still sitting on my local rack. It's a beautiful looking book, but I don't want to spend $7 on it. Lighthouse said he cut his orders for #2 based on no second print of #1 being available and the likelihood of fewer actual readers, but it does not seem that was the norm.

Harley is on the cover, so maybe we will see something we haven't seen before? hm

True. but then, there are plenty of people that simply like selling a book at a profit, even if it's offset by losses. There is definitely an enjoyment factor in the speculation game for some. Perhaps many. Otherwise, people wouldn't spend the time to hunt through bargain bins at conventions for that missed book.

True. I go with my gut on moderns, variants or not. Fortuntely, I usually can make back 90% or so of the money on my "failures". I do SS books exclusively. I have great wins many, many times and it allows me to pay for my own collection (I dont do it for a living, just hobby).

For example, I saw the Batman Who Laughs character and bought about 10-12 TT12 books for cover or discounted cover. Many of them came back 9.8 after sigs. I did the same with Batman Damned 1 (regular cover and variant), I bought 12 of them for cover and some of those were discounted cover (from DCBS). Those are just two examples. I did well recently with my Stan signature books too.

I made good money on the Seven to Eternity books some time back and of course, Rick and Morty books were VERY lucrative for me.

It took me a while to get a system in place to save time for cheap lots, but I managed it. Even with packages under a pound, you can often ship priority for the same price as parcel select with the ebay shipping discount

All of my slabs are right at 2lbs after packed unless it's multples. Anything under a lb that I sell (usually something other than comics), I send first class USPS. Ive just had too many issues with UPS, but I do fedex on occasion.

  14. 1 minute ago, GeeksAreMyPeeps said:

I have a bunch of Priority boxes on hand too, but most of my sales are only a few books, and shipping is cheaper with the small shippers

Yeah, thats where slabs are a little easier. They are automatically insured for a little bit and its 2 or 3 day delivery. I charge $12 or so for shipping and it normally costs about $8-10 to actually ship it. So, the rest covers the materials.

  15. 14 minutes ago, GeeksAreMyPeeps said:

If you buy a bunch of shippers, you can pack pretty quickly. Of course, then you're also out the cost of those materials.

I ships slabs, but I buy bubble wrap in bulk and since I ship USPS Priority, I get them to deliver me a ton of boxes for free. I double box mine. Take me about 5 minutes to pack the books after printing off the labels. Sometimes, the longest part of it all is me finding the actual books in my boxes. I have a half-a55 inventory system. I need to make it better.

Okay, it's obvious you are a press first, ask questions later Believer. IMO, that one flaw is what is holding the book at 7.0 . Fixing any other pressable defects probably won't matter. Still, if the notes mention pressable defects, it may be worth a try. Do we have the notes ?

Absolutely not. Like I said, look at the grading notes first and look for pressable defects. I've done this quite a bit and been very successful. NEVER had a book damaged. My ASM 14 went from 8.5 to 9.2. ASM 129 went from 9.0 to 9.4. I've had many other old books jump too. I've had many expensive modern books go from 9.4 to 9.6 (Batman 608 RRP is one). BUT, I always read grading notes first and even before buying a book.

I NEVER press first and ask questions later (whatever that means). For example, I have an ASM 1. It's a 6.5 and I never pressed it because the grading notes are not pressable.

  17. Just now, Bomber-Bob said:

Not arguing that it's a great looking book but I don't think a press would help. Apparently you missed the piece missing from the top edge, maybe an inch long, showing the inside paper ? Of course will all know a press can fix anything. Maybe it can stretch the paper enough to cover up the missing piece. :baiting:

Sure, a press wouldnt fix that. But, if the grading notes have any other pressable defects, if might could bump to 7.5 possibly. You can always submit to press for scan first, but takes longer.

Honest question -- does anybody else think this book would look better without that tiny piece that's sticking up from the top edge, looking like it might not even be attached?  My OCD is going a little crazy here.

Thats a pretty 7.0. I'd take a look at the grading notes on it and see if anything could be pressed it. White pages, corners look sharp, spine looks good. It shows better than the grade imo. If there are simply some bends or rippling, a press would knock it out.

    Congrats!
