In some states it’s against the law. I find Batman 635 priced at $7.99. the lady store owner took it from my stack as I was still digging through their bins. She said it’s not supposed to be that price and later quoted me $100. This was maybe 4 years ago and that shop has since closed. The new store owner which converted to a video game store ended up selling all those back issues w keys they inherited for $2 each

Ouch. If they arent doing the work to manage their own inventory (which I know is hard for a comic store) then Im not going to shop there. A better strategy is having some sort of daily notification system that tells them when books in their inventory have increased in price with an average of Ebay sales. THEN, set their price X % lower than that. Probably too complex for a store where most of the time they dont have the funds to manage like that and usually employees are around minimum wage.

It was mentioned on another CBSI article around that time.. all the cheap copies got bought up and fomo kicks. GI Joe books are starting to pick up. 100s of first apps across several books

Yeah, Ive sold a lot of GI Joe slabbed books lately. With the Snake Eyes movie coming out, its a good hold on some of them. I think there is an Amazon series too coming out? I just recently picked up a couple first appearances of Dawn Moreno (female Snake Eyes). There are not a lot of them out there for sale. I think its a decent long term hold for a first appearance, but well see. Hollywood is all about female, diverse characters and thats not gonna change for a while. Im glad years ago, I picked up a bunch of old GI Joe, Transformers, Star Wars movie, and Indiana Jones movie comics. I think Ill get a good return on those.

I actually just bought this for my son!! Absurd how high I had to go to get it too but this isn’t a book I bought to flip or anything this is a keepsake for his collection and I figured at this point i am not going to get one under 2K unless it’s an italian version. Man i hate the modern market now that I’ve got him his UF4 and UF4 variant im gonna go back to my WWII superhero book collecting at least those make sense to me!! He also loves Blue Beetle thank goodness i had already bought him his first app!!

Im kicking myself on this one. Normally, I dont look back at books that I made a profit, but I sold my signed 9.6 some time back for like $700. Obviously now, that was a bad decision. My thinking was that the prices wouldn't go up a lot more after the movie. I was so wrong. Badly.

  5. We will see a black James Bond before we see a black Superman. If we do though, it will be something like Miles Morales, not the original story so they can have both. Problem is that connection of current Superman to his own history and his audience. The goal is to get more people to see it so trying to diversify could alienate some people from going. Spider-man did it perfectly imo.

What’s fishy about it? Just to clarify what I’m seeing. The bidders a new account with 3 bids on the same item? I guess I can see that could be indicative of something shady but not proof. What would the point be in buying your own book? I could see someone shill bidding if they aren’t getting the money they want but actually following through and paying for the item isn’t the normal next move, especially that amount of money.

It's not proof of anything and purely speculative. One of my books recently was accused of having shilled bids. It was a new account with very little bids (like this one) and the auction ended and the buyer paid me. No issues. Conspiracy theorists.

Can't believe I'm jumping in on this, but...! Chuck has long identified with the LGBT community and has felt a connection to Shepherd and his family, Harvey Milk and other icons associated with them.

Some would say he overshares in what is supposed to be a comic dealer newsletter (LOL) and he is certainly quirky, but I think he's got a good heart, and as much as we've busted on him over the years I have to admit he's got me rooting for him.

Got it. I dont know a lot about him. I absolutely don't question his heart, but just seemed odd for a comic newsletter when it didnt really talk about it other than "Heres a picture..."

Finally got my one and only Stan book. I have never owned a signature book and have always focused more on silver keys but when Stan passed it really hit me hard and I felt I really wanted to honor him by having a book that he was truly involved in, was a Spider-Man book for sure, with a solid grade, earlier signature and good placement. I decided to aim for either ASM 39, 100 or Annual 1. After going back and forth I decided 100 was the one I needed. I have been making the rounds aggressively and am really happy with the one I got. It was priced at $900 which seemed fair when I noticed last GPA sale this month for a 7.0 went for $565 and everyone Seems to have 6.0 up to 7.5 books listed between $1200-$1600 on EBay.

So excited to have this book and even though all my other books are tucked away safely in the dark in boxes, this book will be out and displayed for everyone to enjoy! Just not in direct sunlight and perhaps under special glass. 😉

Thanks so much for everything you gave us Stan. You filled the world with magic and made this 47 year old man feel like a kid.
May his memory forever be a blessing.
    RIP Stan Lee

This is such a nice book and nice sig. I had this same book signed by him, but he used silver and signed over Spidey's face. I was so pissed. After that, I always got Stan's signatures myself or window boxed.

  10. Stan's signature on some books will always add value. Yes, he signed a ton of stuff, but when you combine his signature with a special book (a silver age he worked on, a key). People always crapped on how many books he signed, but having a key Spider-man book with the creator of Spider-man on it will have value. Having a Funko Pop with his signature? That I believe will not hold value, but who knows.

Always get the extra insurance from USPS for items over $50

I would say $300+ or even $500. If you do a lot of sales, in the end, you spend a lot on insurance when USPS is generally good. Ive only had 1 package go missing and I didnt buy the extra insurance. They gave me a refund of the shipping and the $50 basic insurance.

    *eBay buyer alert*

Had a fella buy a nice copy of Marvel premier 1 warlock with no grade attached and pictures front, back, inside from all angles.

Was a sharp copy with minimal spine ticks glossy no tears or chipping and never presses because I was owner for long time.

Buyer requested refund and submitted pictures of a 1inch spine split and bad damage to whole bottom 2 inches of book going threw the whole books pages. Literally almost ripped off the bottom staple.

This certainly looks intentional and he made a case saying I used “deceptive angles to hide this damage” I was livid!!

The book is trashed and worthless now and he opened case for me to loose money and keep destroyed book.

I stated no returns but would have anyway if the book was not defaced so badly.

This buyer had selfish intent and it’s only  fair to share this.

I have many pics I can post of condition sent and his pics after destruction.

    goes by doccollections

Now, ebayer's can return just about anything unfortunately. Some time back though, when I had a "no return policy", a buyer contacted me about a CGC SS Walking Dead book. It was a cheap book that had Michonne on it and it was signed by Danai Gurira.

The buy claimed I never put what "print" it was, but yet there were high rez pics that clearly said "second print" on the slab. He said it wasn't worth as much now. But, it was such a cheap book, that according to GPA, was only a few dollars difference to first print.

Anyway, I was pissed that they were saying I was deceptive. I called eBay and told them the story. I told them that I did NOT want him to return the item and for them to look at my sales numbers. They almost immediately said, "Yes, you are right, he should have seen the pictures." They denied his claim. Calling them can help.
