You see a spike currently. This will go away eventually so I would sell now.

I bought one this morning. I collect x-23 books and not planning to sell. For some reason, I have just about every cover of ANW #1 except that one. Figured I would buy now jic it goes up more. I know those hip hop variants are selling pretty well.

Those waves look like the polybag but have you taken them out to inspect them closer? Nice find!👍

No, I haven't taken them out yet, so I am making a big assumption that I wont find problems on the back. I literally just picked up the 5 long boxes on Sunday afternoon. Found a few other decent books, but these were the two best (guess I shouldn't jinx myself haha).

Thanks for mentioning this one! It was not coming up on my radar in my inventory program. I know I have a few of these but could only find one ...newsie! It's a dig to get to the other boxes.

Overall, this is easy a 9.6+ so I'm going to get it pressed as it really only needs it for an almost imperceptible bend near the spine in the middle of the FC. The white spots in the black areas in the photo is bag reflection. :wishluck: for a 9.8.

I just bought a collection of 5 long boxes. Lots of digging into 80s/90s mess until I finally found two of these NM or better. They look NM/M to me. $400 well spent

the 9.6 of that book may not recoup slabbing costs.

Yeah, if I slabbed and got 9.6, it would probably be one that sat for a long time. I hate those. I dont like auctions. Just f'ed up and did a Vision 2 Keown variant 9.8 auction and basically just re-couped my money/or slightly lost after ebay fees. Complete mis-calculation on my part.

There are still better books to attempt to profit from as even in 9.6 the price has a steep drop off. Especially considering the poly bag , glued cover, overlay, and black background all give many ways this could easily drop below 9.8.

And unless it is a book you really want all of that gamble may not be worth it unless it really does follow the current trend and explode, which i personally wouldn't bet on.

True. I dont have any intentions of sending any in at this point. That price point is just my lower limit of deciding if I want to send in (with other criteria being involved as well).

This would be more of a gamble unless you are 100% certain it is a 9.8 as any lower and it would likely barely cover grading cost. Also why other pay for the 9.8 vs sending them in.

Oh yeah, definitely. If I send in a book, I have to know its gonna be a 9.6+. If there is any question, I dont send it. 9.6+ at that point usually at the least makes me break even on that book at that price point.

This was why I said these really aren't any sign of any of this as their value has been pretty steady.  If you count inflation they have actually trended down in value .

As a seller, my "should I grade it and sell it" is the $100 mark for a 9.8. Not sure if others are similar, but if so we might see more of these get sent in. haha

Remember, costs will shift a bit over the years just due to inflation. It's definitely not a spec book or something someone will buy because of the rarity.

Ah, I didnt even know that. I thought it was the same book in the plastic. I didnt collect at that time and have never actually opened one.

I do not know the book, but are there little things that might make a lot of them 9.6ses and it might actually be expensive to mine a 9.8 out of a stack of 20 really nice ones? $5 pre-screens add a chunk to the cost of things if 10 don't make the cut. They all look perfect to me in the dollar box, but who am I to judge?

I dont know any grading issues, but I've never had a Superman 500 graded. I have 2 copies in my raw books that are still in the plastic. I know there were tons of them when it came out. I didn't collect comics back then.

  10. First picture is new stuff that I got in the mail this weekend. The next two pictures are from box diving into my own raws over past few days to just look for stuff to get graded....

I also found a ton of 80's GI Joe stuff (already sold my #1 and #21 that I had graded a long time ago). They were all various conditions, but many are NM or better.

  11. Yesterday, I bought 5 long boxes off FB Marketplace. $400 sight unseen. I asked questions beforehand, but that was it. Roll of the dice.

It was 80's, mostly 90's and probably exactly what you would expect from a 90's collection. Tons of Image Comics and Wolverine. No Star Wars. :/

He told me that hadn't been gone through and been in the attic for years. That might have been the case (bags were sticking together).

Took a few hours to go through it all and verify sold prices of some things. While they hadn't been gone through recently, keys were missing. Some price stickers on the bags seemed old, but the comics were in great condition. Most were bagged/boarded and never read (many in the original plastic baggies still).

Fun to treasure hunt, but nothing huge came out of these boxes. I was getting worried a bit until I found the comics in the last image (they are NM+ or NM/M I think).

Easily make some money on these with grading, but lots of work. Here are some highlights (almost all of these are NM or better, many others not shown were NM+ or NM/M)...

    Standard delivered 3/12, received 4/05

Similar here....exact day delivered by USPS and status is received as of this morning. 2 orders in the same shipment to CGC.

One batch is Modern FT (status went straight to Scheduled for Grading) and my other batch, Modern slow, is at Received.

  13. I bought two Kanan Last Padawan #6 from same seller. Both are 9.8 candidates. $400 total. I didnt have this book. I like buying two of a lot of books. I bought two Thrawn #1 Mattina for $100 total when it came out, sent off to get signed by Mattina and Zahn, and both came back 9.8. I've bought two books multiple times in past so I can keep one/sell one. Might do the same here...

  14. I have a Batman 635 that graded an 8.5. Its near perfect (no spine ticks, no color breaks), but grading notes say it has front cover "stain". I THINK I see what they are talking about when I hold up to light, there is one area that doesnt "shimmer" in the light. It looks more like a finger print to me if anything. VERY hard to see. Obviously Im not a professional grader, but Ive seen enough books to know that it looks under graded. Its never been pressed. Im wondering if a press/regrade would help. At this point, if it could get to a 9.4, the price difference to sell is really not worth it. But, if the book continues to go up, Ill think about it.

You must have been in a different pandemic. My sales skyrocketed as soon as lockdowns started last March.

Most of last year, my sales were a bit slow. They started picking up in January. I started seeing sales trickle in on stuff that I didnt think would sell. Im specific in my market though. I deal with CGC SS mostly. Since there were no cons and not many signing events, I took a hiatus for a while.

so far so good, and with local dealers talking of going like Duncanville Bookstore :)

Yeah, I havent been on the boards much. Down comic market and no cons kept me away a bit. Hope they do the show in September, but we will see

While I agree I like Tynion better, Cates is suffering from being overworked honestly. It always happens
to new stud Marvel writers. The company burns them out.

I like Cates. He nails Texas since he is from here. God Country and Redneck were perfect in regards to their areas (I think Redneck was east Texas and god country was central Texas, but cant remember). Anyway, I talked to him at a couple cons here in Dallas and he's a super nice guy. Though I find him kind of obnoxious on twitter some times. I think its just the whole short written text vs conversing translation. I met Tynion once, but didnt really have any time to talk to him. It was a signing for Tec 1000.
