  1. Me too, especially after I saw the label that said 8 oz.. Some of the nicest books I have bought have been shipped in the worst way possible. Some of the lessor known online estate websites have shocked me with the way they ship things.
  2. That is what I am planning on doing. Was fair with the price and who knows the situation. User had 36 positive feedback but only 1 positive as a seller for an Amazing Fantasy #15 that was coverless, was still over a $3k sale. So they are selling higher priced items. Will comment on the shipping in private. I ship $40 CGC slabs with much more protection and priority, buyers are usually happy to pay a reasonable shipping fee if it means the comic is packaged and shipped properly. I know that I wouldn't even hesitate to pay a $50 shipping fee on a $5-6k book. Sadly, this isn't even in my top 5 worst shipping stories from ebay/amazon.
  3. Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to give them a try next time. I found plenty in the range but most had pieces of the cover missing or tons of marvel chipping. Maybe they will have better options next time.
  4. It was definitely eBay, it's the last 3.0 sale on gpa, it was accepted as best offer, so might not show up as the final price I paid in eBay sold listings. The USPS tracking said first class package but thought it must be media mail due to weight and the way it was tracked. It was my mistake, but I thought it couldn't possibly be first class package, I know my local USPS weighs all packages and makes sure their not over 1 lb when accepting.
  5. Sooooo............ I got the package today. Was notified it was held at a local USPS by "Customer Request." Figured it was due to postage. I went this morning on my way to a work meeting and was told that the package wasn't actually being held at the USPS office, that it was miss sorted, and that it was out on the truck for delivery today. I was nervous since it was going to my office and I wanted the option to deny accepting the package if it looked suspicious. I got back to my office a little while ago, and a box was sitting on my desk. The box wasn't shipped media mail, I was mistaken, it was shipped USPS First Class Mail. WTF....... USPS first class mail is a maximum of 16 oz. You can't possibly ship a slab under 2 lbs. (well newer slabs anyway) let alone 1 lb. The USPS first class mail sticker said 8 oz. When I saw the box and the postage paid I immediately thought that the box had to be empty and it was scam. It was sent with signature required and a co-worker signed for it while I was out of my office. First thing I did was take tons of picks and weigh the package. This is what I found:
  6. Ok so I am not being unreasonable. Seller did not list how they were shipping it. It was a or best offer item and after he accepted, I paid and emailed the Seller about the shipping and making sure it was shipped safe and secure. Never got a response, just a notice the next day that it was shipped. I guess I am a little naive to think that it goes without saying that when someone spends that much on an item, the Seller respects the cost and takes time to properly package and ship. In retrospect, I should have gotten more info before paying, but as a general rule, shipping anything of that value via Media Mail is just absurd to me. I can't help but feel like there will be more issues when, and if, the comic arrives.
  7. Like the title says, is the following unacceptable or is it just me: Bought a very expensive CGC graded key off eBay (roughly $6,000). The Seller has mailed it via USPS Media Mail. This means no insurance, longer time in the mail, and it doesn't qualify for media mail by USPS standards. Shipment was sent from an in state seller on Monday, would be 1 day via priority mail but it hasn't arrived yet and who knows when it will arrive. Can't comment on packaging and won't list eBay seller id because I haven't received the comic yet to find out if there are issues, but all things considered, when someone pays that much for an item, to save a few bucks on shipping by mailing it media mail just seems beyond unacceptable to me. Am I being unreasonable on this? Edit: Thanks for all the responses, didn't mean to make this a big deal, and definitely will not give an eBay seller a bad reputation if it is delivered safe and sound and packaged properly. There is tracking on the package, actually got a notification that it is at a nearby post office being held for pickup at customer request. I didn't request that, so unless the seller requested it, possibly it means that there is insufficient postage? Either way, I'm happier seeing the package at the post office prior to delivery. If the package is beat up I can deny acceptance, can also try to open it there to have the post office worker confirm if it is damaged or not. Will give an update after I go tomorrow. If it was me, I would send registered mail. Always do when it is a comic over a certain value.
  8. Thanks for all the replies. It is a really nice copy of the book, the pleat is the only major flaw. Happy it isn't restoration but will pass on getting it graded. Definitely presents as a very high grade book raw and will leave it that way, a 9.2 slabbed (if it would get that) wouldn't do this book justice. Thanks for the info, was unfamiliar with the paper pleats but now know. Great stuff as always from the board members on here.
  9. Going to move this to another site, if anyone comes across this post and is interested, shoot me a message
  10. Haven't seen a R&M 38 with a hulk 340 homage but there is a R&M #36 with a Hulk 181 Homage. I think Frankies comics did it. I know the raws sold out quickly but they had CGC slabbed 9.8's for a reasonable price still available about a month ago.
  11. One time price drop. Will leave this up for a few more days before moving it to eBay or another site.
  12. Thanks, was planning on holding onto this but need to raise some money for a grail I'm after. Wanted to post here before somewhere else to see if any boardie was interested.
  13. For Sale: A raw copy of the rare Superman: Island Bradman #nn DC (1988.) 1st wins I will entertain reasonable offers through PM but trumps PM's Payment I will accept Paypal/check/money orders. Boxed Shipping via USPS First Class Mail is included, if you would like it shipped priority just pay the difference I will take returns within 7 days of the buyer receiving the book, buyer pays return shipping No HOSers or people on Probation: Superman: Island Bradman #nn (DC, 1988) - $675 Now $625 This is the rare Superman Bradman Birthday Commission that was produced back in 1988. If your unfamiliar with this comic, just do a google search and there are plenty of articles on it. Total number produced is unknown but believed to be between 100-200. This book is complete, cover is fully attached at both staples, it has wear along the spine/cover, a large 1 to 1.5" crease bottom right corner of front cover, some color breaking spine stress lines, comic was definitely read. The page colors are cream to off-white with good page quality. Can't say I'm spot on at grading but would estimate this to be between a 5.0 to 6.0. This has never been pressed or cleaned. If you would like to see more pictures or know my ebay id just pm me and I will be happy to share. 14. Nevermind, found the post underanufacturing defect, probably don't want to un-crease it since there may not be ink under there. How does leaving the crease effect the grade?
  15. Thank you! I did review older posts but didn't see that. Any idea on how that affects the grade or if it could be pressed out?
  16. Got a really nice copy of a DC Comics Presents #26. Comic is in amazing shape, EXCEPT , for a crease or possibly a tear that has been glued on the front cover running horizontally from the right edge into Green Lantern's face. It is really hard to see in the scans but can be seen in the photos a little better. I have never seen a horizontal crease like that before, and don't want to try to pull at the comic to see if it is a tear. The inside cover doesn't give when you open it but with a crease that long, not sure how that would get there without major color break if it wasn't a tear. Just thought more experienced board members could give me an opinion. Any help would be appreciated. Also, estimates on grade if it is a crease/if it is a tear and I had the glue removed? Thanks in advance
  17. Unfortunately, I've experienced more issues with online retailers over the past year than I ever did in the past. Pay with a CC and process through PayPal and you have double protection as a buyer. As long as you have a good track record with PayPal and with your CC then you shouldn't have an issue.
  18. Strange Tales #111 - 2nd Doctor Strange, 1st Baron mordo and really low census numbers - especially in higher grade. ST 110 is priced out of most peoples price range as well. Also its the first appearance of asbestos man, you never know, maybe one of those flip sites will hear a rumor from a friend of a friend of a friend that asbestos man will be making his MCU debut soon.
  19. Sorry to hear that more people have had issues with this company. I had to resolve my issue through my credit card company. My CC company tried to contact them about my complaint and when they didn't respond told me that they would give me back 100% of my charge. Me, hoping a good deed would be paid forward, only requested a charge back for the comics I never received (plus I prorated the shipping charge based on total order and the costs of the books I received. Not going to pay $10 shipping on $4.99 of new release comics.) Guess they don't like to pay good deeds forward. Bad bad people.
  20. That book has made no sense for a while. Have been wondering how so many copies of a 1:50 variant on a relatively low print run book has so many copies on eBay at all times. Are the same sellers relisting the sold books? I think all R&M's will dip over the next few months. When season 4 gets announced and the hype comes back to the show, they will heat up again. The regular #1 is tough in 9.8 with that black back cover that scratches so easily. Hope they dip big time so I can snatch some up ?
  21. Class act all around. Bought me a raw SDCC Variant, said he was confident it would be a 9.8, had it graded and fastracked by CGC and it came back 9.8 super fast. Your safe dealing evilash, delivered as promised, couldn't be happier.
  22. I don't get their statement that they know there is a "handful of slightly off prices." If you cannot tell the accuracy of BIN sales data from eBay , then how can you even respond with any sentence using the words "handful" or "slightly." The BIN sales that I did that led to this post were about 20% less then full asking. I bet that there are plenty of these transactions that are discounted way more than 20%. Comics with high volumes of CGC sales have the bulk of their sales go through eBay. This means thee are a lot of BIN sales. You cannot possibly mix this BIN data in with legitimate sales data and claim to have accurate last sale, 90 day average, 12 month average, etc.. This is the equivalent of GPA knowingly allowing eBay to give its data an STD and then passing it on. GPA is a specialty website whose paying customers buy and/or sell enough comics that its worth paying the subscription fee. Lets be realistic, eBay sales data and 3rd party sites like GPA influence the comic market. I know that everyone says to use sites like GPA as a reference, and people know the flaws, but I would also bet that the majority, and I mean a large majority, believe that the historic sales prices recorded by these 3rd party sites were the actual sales price. Why does eBay even provide sold listing data in the first place? Because buyers demand it and sellers demand it for pricing purposes. Their artificially manipulating sales data higher and I'm sure that people are going to get burned.
  23. If that is true, not only do they need to update the software but the software upgrade would make a GPA subscription a must so buyers know the actual sales prices on BIN sales. ebay clearly has no interest in disclosing this information.
  24. That is exactly my thought, win-win for eBay. GPA definately picks up on the actual selling price for listings that have the "or best offer" feature. The issue is the deals cut through ebay messaging and the sellers ability to use the "send offer" button. These are recording on ebay and GPA, and in fairness probably all other 3rd party services that track prices. The real question that I had was, is this new meaning last month or so, or has this been going on for a while? Seems the ability for sellers to use the "send offer" button was around for a while but no one can confirm if the ebay sold data a while back would reflect the full asking price on these transactions. That is the issue, however ebay lists the sales, that is what the 3rd party sites will pick up.
  25. Do you know how eBay listed those deals in their sold items data? Wondering if showing the item sold for full asking is new.
