  1. I’ve had about 3/4 of my SS subs drop from 9.8 to 9.6 this year. I just started getting really into celebrity signatures and was sending 9.8 cgc slabs as a hope for a “guarantee” and had been adding a press as well for insurance but I’ve stopped with that and just send 9.6 also. I did send a 9.6 with pressing added through SWAU for Chris Evans hoping  for a bump or at least keep the 9.6 but got back a 9.2 with a ton of new spine ticks. If I know I’ve got no shot for 9.8 I’ll probably just start sending clean looking raws instead.

What is normal turn around for grading/quality control. My book has been in this stage since 7/21. Is this the last stage?

I got ahold of someone today and found out that it was an accounting issue. Now resolved but in 2 months no one reached out to me and I even inquired back mid September and was given a “it’s in process” with no mention of an issue.

Dang, I was on the fence about upgrading to Elite tonight for the perks, but it looks like CGC has already rolled out the changes several hours early...

If the orders needed to be in by end of business on 4/27 instead of just before 4/28 (i.e., 11:59 on 4/27), I wish that had been more obvious.

Agree. It wasn't stated and I definitely also did not assume end of business for an automated 24hr a day typically online submission system. It said forms completed before 4/28.

Natalie Portman is doing a signing with SWAU sometime this year, and just adding CGC grading onto it bumps the cost up by $240 to a nice even $800.

Trying not to fall into the FOMO mindset...

Just legitimately curious if I was missing something I got confused with the multiple links for different products and add ons but this was the pricing I got on the comic they had with and without CGC. I was trying to find a different comic than the Padme or pricing to submit one. The only option I could find for submitting other comics was to get it in a Becket Slab which was also $700 same as CGC

Cowabunga!  Signed by original cartoon series cast (with of course a signature and sketch by Kevin Eastman):

    - Cam Clarke - Leonardo

    - Townsend Coleman - Michelangelo

    - Barry Gordan - Donatello

    - Rob Paulsen - Raphael

    TMNT - 1.JPG

This is awesome. I love the color coordinated signatures and the green for Eastman

  6. Mine showed up at the beginning of the week but my slow ease back into work in the new year didn’t happen. Thanks to @the blob for some fun stuff. I’m really looking forward to reading the Hulk encyclopedia as he’s always been a favorite character but I’ve only just read books here or there. Have been wanting to start collecting runs of Hulk books. Really nice copy of Thor 339 for Beta Ray Bill, a great Sienkiewicz Moon Knight cover and some nice XMen related and other title for plenty of reading material to start the new year. This was my first year participating and I had a lot of fun on with the both the gift giving and receiving sides of things.

Second this. There are books I’ve donated because I didn’t think they’d ever get hot. Fast forward 2 years later...that stack of $0.25 books I gave away are worth $15-$20 each. If you feel like you must get rid of them, hold onto any newsstands, 2nd printings, or JCPenney reprints.

Agree. Luckily I’ve only got around 3000 books but it’s so hard to get rid of dollar books unless you do shows and then when I think of just getting rid of them by the box or something I always find 2-3 that are now $30 books which makes up for one of those makes you cringe at the idea of selling a long box for $20 or $30.

  8. I would

    go after keys first

I feel like your point about collecting moderns concurrently to catch books before they get expensive is fair but that it is greatly offset by all the $4 and $5 books you would be able to get for $1 or less maybe not even a year later. Plus most of the variants drop after their initial blow up.

collect runs starting my favorites because it’s highly likely I will give up long before I achieve this goal. My first instinct was to collect the least popular stuff first because 1) you can get a large quantity faster 2) you get these super cheap and you never know what might get more expensive down the road when it gets its day in the sun, however again I feel like I will not see this monumental task to completion and then I’ve just got tens of thousands of cheap books I have no interest in and nobody else wants either.

Which brought me to my ah ha moment. Find the other people who tried and take their collections off their hands after they’ve burned out.

A lot of comics were still purchased in 7-11, Waldenbooks, Newstands and other mall book stores.  So, I would say around an 8.0-8.5

Books that were bought in comic stores, I would suspect to be a 9.2.  Many criticize CGC but they did shift the scale making the traditional overstreet grading to appear kind of soft.

Agree even as a kid I was bagging and boarding the second I got anything. Didn’t know about boxes for a while just had them on a shelf. I also was a stickler for getting the best copy but with all that most all of mine were from the from the gas station or grocery store. Also I’d take them with me on trips, into book bags, read multiple times, try to copy drawing the artwork. Even handled carefully that’s a lot to hold up against.

The short answer is no and doubtful she would but I have been caught saying so and so will never sign and lo and behold they sign. She is a grail for most I’m sure

That’s what I was starting to figure. Just seemed weird with all the other original Avengers, even Downey, and so many of the other Marvel actors having done them.

  11. Was just getting back into the hobby I hadn’t touched for 20 years since I was a kid. Went to a small NovaCon or something in a firehouse in Northern VA at the beginning of 2015.  Bunch of dealers and 1 artist named Herb Trimpe. Didn’t know who he was and was too nervous talking to artists and sounding stupid so walked by his table twice but didn’t stop. Was real nice though and seemed happy to meet with people. Tried learning from that missed opportunity and actually making myself be more outgoing to talk to artists but usually still get pretty nervous.

Just so you hear the opposing opinion - I disagree with everything the other person said.  That may be a common belief as it relates to cracking out 9.8s for signature (and just so we are clear, I don't agree with that either. I have cracked out dozens possibly hundreds of 9.8s and had one grade drop) but not for a 9.2. A 9.2 has significant wear on it already.  The risk of a grade drop is SUBSTANTIALLY less than the risk of a grade drop on a cracked out 9.8.

Do grade drops happen. Sure they do. But so do grade bumps. Careful planning, knowing who is handling the book, and learning how to create bomb proof window bag transportation systems will keep most grades on point.

The Sig Room has become a place of grade drop fear mongering and it is out of place.

I agree with this as well. I’ve done a handful of 9.8s for artist signatures and all have been fine although admittedly nerve wracking at first because 9.8 to 9.6 just seems like such an easy drop to me. 9.2 I’d be very comfortable with and since you’re reslabbing anyway would see if you think a press would fix anything while you’re at it and try for a bump.

  13. Sorry if there is a better thread to ask but has Scarlett Johansson ever done or ever shown interest in a plan to do a signing. I’ve looked for a while and never found anything. Been holding onto a slabbed black widow 1 seeing if something ever showed up. Was just wondering if she just didn’t ever plan to do signings. Thanks
