  1. Ah someone liked a post, so I'm revisiting the thread to see if I was justified or just hangry, which leads me to a better word than your question of how to "validate the process ie oracle?" I would have used the word justify. In short. Validate seems to propose that these are unwilling parties, needing to prove something, which unfortunately also implies swindling. That is an underlying issue that takes at the heart of this thread to where, who can say any of the hobby is "in validity" with prices paid, lengths gone too and etc Justify makes it sound as though they weren't encouraging the hobby but were consenting, and therefore making new terms of a high price, which personally I think would be a GOOD THING the privates sales weren't tracked.... I think both parties were eager and willing, but didn't want it on record. In short they knew 3rd parties couldn't justify it, but they were desperate wanting highest possible value... complying willing parties!
  2. That's what I thought, so cool. I figured any added or dropped to that list was due to the sheer number available for sale, not just rare but also plentiful. Spawn of course graces the top of the over all list, but probably because of the sheer numbers available, and due to the guy using macro rather than micro determination... Even though they have a limited value and the supply still outweighs demand by a lot, still the sheer number available and still trading hands. I see a lot more on the modern list that could be adjusted , added or dropped, but that adjustment list itself diminishes as you head to the older ages. I'm sure that nothing in accounting of supply and demand is perfect, but it's what is available, and can be viewed in many statistics as interpreted in different ways. Ie graphs, but he's got a convincing enough presentation if it can be viewed publicly and revisited with future data.
  3. https://gocollect.com/comics/hottest For example if this link will work, it shows you the top 100 books in sale for each age you click on Edit to say it can also do the top 100 books in sales overall and between the ages etc
  4. IS The only place that the youtuber could get "the 100 most sold for each age" already given to him to then track is gocollect? Am I correct in that assumption? I doubt he's counting sales on gpa, but I haven't paid for gpa, so I thought gpa gives a whole bunch of specifics about a single book rather than the whole... Idk go gocollect being competitive, I'm sure that gpa does, but I do know gocollect only goes to about 100 for each age easily. While I know he put in some work, I'm sure he tried to make it easy on himself somehow... Of course idk and am presuming, but food for thought, since I watched this one at the suggested time.
  5. awesome, I bet it is an interesting read! I like that the tagline bottom left illustrates what could be a considered a "melted head cover" haha, more importantly? I've never seen a "superman's boots" illustrated quite so cowboyish, for a lack of a better term I guess that is superman, read to find out!
  6. Best wishes at comic con this weekend, and Lord willing your transformers come in, in time. Look forward to the NYCC update.
  7. Lol this is also true, it is all true, but explaining metrics takes reasoning or rational thoughts. Towards your sentiment everyone or every instance has its own condition as to "why?" To say the least getting the most out of each situation would be why or why not they're "tracked!" That's why I was adamant (ium) that the transaction is between buyer and seller, all third parties are after the fact. There are more than a million metrics as to why a transaction doesn't benefit a third party not associated, hence why private sales hence why tracking and non tracking. I just didn't think the facepalm was being a good sport to answering questions asked. If it is a facepalm to the reasonings for a "private sales" well that can be TRUE, but who are we to judge!
  8. Are these the answers I was supposed to magically know? or was I "arguing semantics". It is rhetorical, and NO I'm not biting your head off nor you me, it is just a way to pass time on a "message board" on a Sunday. Cheer up, do what works for you!!
  9. You pointed out being able to track a sale, as if it is the only 'metric" that mattered. And then you asked why? That isn't arguing I pointed out the fallacy of that position, there are other metrics in numerous hobbies, sales and the like that aren't made public but that are also based on numerous metrics that aren't tracked publicly. If it was an argument, Idk know what your saying then as I was trying to explain the "why?" To answer your question. Metrics only matter on a firsthand basis ie the buyer and seller. Anything past that is third hand knowledge and or hearsay. So your complaint of "not valid and hearsay" isn't only with private sales. Many metrics that gpa or eBay doesn't "track" is location! A metric based on convenience. For example I live twenty miles from mcs, but didn't buy my last book off their website (even though it would be cheaper by $15), because the total would be less than $100 onsite and just over $100 on ebay, and I wanted to use PayPal credit no interest 6 months. So how did that eBay sale get "validated" through GPA? I was pointing out that they are guidelines, and no one has the entitlement to make a sale public, especially if that is not the terms of a transaction. Carry on!
  10. "Shall I load the photon torpedoes, captain?"
  11. It also bares repeating That you're free to do what you want, I just also remember this one taking a while and now to see it end up like that? I agree with you in the sentiment
  12. Just the guy who is selling a rare book like in this thread? Seller getting 10000$ more in a private sale, probably wouldn't care. Buyer who now knows and can get a book possibly for 10000 less, probably doesn't "care" I wouldn't call that a paradox.
  13. The facepalm WASN'T necessary. 1) have you ever bought from a lcs? Those arent tracked. 2) if you're going to describe lcs as based on metrics, they are still private sales and untracked. Therefore the private sales the boards were speaking of can be extrapolated the same way, whether you know the "factors" to make a informed decision is up to each of the unique people in a transaction. 3) you just described yourself as the guy at the con with the very last sale on ebay pulled up and thats what you want it for? Never mind the sale before that, or the lowest now listed, as once you mess with the last sale it's no longer a verifiable metric? 4) disregarding other "metrics" such as: availability, what it took for the seller to acquire if rare, trust between buyer and seller, venue, and TONS of others. 5) making "it look" as though you're saying gpa and ebay is gospel, even if you didnt limit to "specifically the last sale on either" then youve messed with the validity of your "metric" 6) there is no reason a person cant do that on their own if they know their stuff. Making private transactions happen all the time! 7)Ever seen a lcs price something under fmv? They sell it often? Hard sale? Common book anywhere? 8) lcs prices high? They never get the book in? Eye candy? Need the money for over head? Metrics aren't a gospel, they are a guidline. Does it help the metric for private sale? Maybe But say that and that alone rather than a facepalm that isnt justified. If a seller is in the market and feels a trusted source is going to give them $10,000 over stated fmv? You think theyre going to NOT DO THAT because other collectors would be hurt in metrics? A lot of high dollar transactions dont want that kind of publicity, and or, its their own private book and nothing wrong with keeping it that way... I didnt think this would be a long post, even shortened a LOT. Im not sure itll do any good
  14. Awesome 😎 I hear cons going around today, hope the weather was suitable! Wasn't paying attention to my reaction but is fixed now, nice assortment ☺️
  15. Stands to further clarify that it won't show up in the verification tool as an actual working cert number until the submission is shipped, but if someone was having problems with links on a phone, the Verify Certification Tool under Resources on cgccomics.com would still work if you manually type in the Cert Number, which is the submission number plus the last three numbers to be added that is the corresponding book in the order ie 001 for the first book 002 for the second and so on. Added on to the end of the submission number.
  16. On your submission page click on the line item number on the left. It’ll take you to the page for that slab. I had trouble getting it to work on my phone so you may need to be on a iPad or desktop. To further Clarify, you HAVE THE SERIALNUMBER THE MOMENT CGC RECEIVES A BOOK It is the submission # + 001 or 002 or 003 if you have a 3 book submission, and so on up to the 25 book subs which would be= submission # + 025 as the last three numbers when it ships then you can see that the cert number is in the system, to see the scans that CGC now provides AND YOU CAN CLICK THE LINK AS MENTIONED OR: You can manually type the numbers into the CGC Verification Tool under Resources on the home page of cgccomics.com
  17. @onlyweaknesskryptonite I hope you are well!
