  1. OK, we were having an excellent discussion about the various and frequent deaths of Abe Vigoda @lizards2 @SkOw @gunsmokin @KirbyJack when @comicartfan bought the only book in the sales thread (thank you again!) so I will add another book to keep the camaraderie afloat!
  2. Could it be John Thornton, of the Flamingo strip?
  3. Great idea for a thread…off the top of my head, I’ve got that same Watchmen pin, a Spidey wearing a Christmas hat pin, and a glow in the dark Green Lantern ring.
  4. Open to reasonable offers, general tomfoolery, drive-by threadkraps, rumors of Elvis or Abe Vigoda sightings, and oblique references to vaguely erotic paranormal experiences!
  5. A 5.0 blue went $1500 on eBay recently (Jan. 2) and a 5.0 purple (three edges trimmed, tear seals, glue) went $900 yesterday on Heritage (see pic). A raw described as Fair (less attractive presentation; sizable section of back cover missing) went $630 on HA in January 2021; those are my best data points I can find on price range.
  6. Captain America Comics #48 cgc 1.0 brittle pages (per slab; I am not the submitter and never handled the actual book, so I can’t elaborate on PQ designation.) That said, we have a beautiful-presenting 1945 Schomburg cover. While this late war-era book does not have a war cover, it’s a cult classic cover for some New Yorkers as Cap and Bucky bust the bad guys in the New York Subway. $800 shipped within U.S.
  7. One book today; here’s the grader’s notes. I am not the submitter; bought it slabbed in an all-or-nothing type package deal.
  8. 5 Simple Rules (Please, please read) 1st wins; tie/indeterminate goes to the thread. Payment is Check or Money Order (yeah, yeah I know I'm a dinosaur, troglodyte, luddite, mennonite, hermaphrodite etc. - I just don't have or want e-payments.) Shipping: Via USPS Priority is included in the price. Don't be listy including the little one in my head. Returns: Sure, just notify me within three days of receipt and get it back to me in the same shape on your dime, except no returns on graded books. (Kudos thread linked under my avatar.)
  9. Drive-by threadkrap to say the Weird is a LOT of fun by three old buddies working together, Starlin, Wrightson and Dan Green.
  10. All those guys runnin’ around looking like Wile E. Coyote after he opens a crate of Acme dynamite?
  11. Maybe they could all just be set to self-destruct if tampered with?
  12. Thanks Bob; agreed! That was my main goal. The Rocket Kelly was in too nice a shape to pass up, the Planet is an upgrade, and the other two Schomburgs were just "why not?"
  13. Greatest? Who the heck knows but I’ll throw a couple fun reads out there that have not been mentioned yet: JLA Earth 2 by Grant Morrison, and the DC 70’s tabloid/treasury size Superman vs Wonder Woman. Also Super Villain Classics #1 (there was no #2; origin of Galactus) was fun too. Single greatest is tough but of everything mentioned so far my faves are probably God Loves Man Kills, Death of Captain Marvel and Killing Joke, in no particular order. But I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch of things that could top my list on any given day.
  14. He’s obviously not current because he died prematurely but I feel Dave Stevens deserves a mention here.
  15. Planet Comics #67 in GVG. Looks better in a Mylar but cover splitting to top staple and a couple small pieces off near bottom left; top right corner. Cover attached at both staples at back. $250
