  1. For those who don’t know where the OA Marketplace on here is, I’ve got these two Creig Flessel strips left over there:
  2. Always a solid deal with Nick — great communication, fast payment, and best of all a great board friend for talking books with! Oh yeah - duh — we just did a deal for Surfer #2 and DD #158.
  3. This - appearance in continuity. The original appeal of comics as collectibles derived from their nature as serial storytelling. Once a character is introduced in a story, they are "real" in the imaginary world that is the comics universe. (That's why the eternal "first appearance of wolverine" question misses the mark -- the correct answer is Hulk 180 through 182, his first story. Not to derail, just trying to illustrate the perspective. Yes 181 has the meat of the tale and the cover, hence the highest value. But both other parts are well above surrounding Hulk run books.) 1st covers, preview ads etc. - sure, all neat and additionally collectible points of significance and fun; I'm all for anyone pursuing any interesting collecting niche/angle but to answer OP question IMO the big first is the first intro into the world of the story.
  4. This. Congrats to buyer and seller!
  5. I just posted three pieces of Creig Flessel published OA over in the Original Art Marketplace. No, they ain’t Sandman pages from Adventure, but published Flessel OA of any sort isn’t exactly lying around every LCS, or even website/auction house, out there.
  6. These are dailies from the newspaper strip, David Crane, which was started by Win Mortimer in the mid-50's and ran until 1970. (All three of these that I am about to list are from 1970.) For much of the last decade of the strip, Flessel drew it. But 2,677 of those strips were donated to the comic art museum at Ohio State, so most of it is not out there. In January 2021, I had picked up three of these and added one to my PC and shared the other two here. I recently picked up a few more and am sharing three here. A friend has a small stash of these and I have managed to pry away a few in trades over the last year and a half. All will be priced at $150 each, box-shipped within the U.S. A recent example sold on eBay for $149.95 plus $20 shipping. I think the work in that example was more pedestrian than each of these three. The strips measure 7-1/2” x 17”. If you purchase more than one, I am happy to combine shipping and deduct $20 each from the second and/or third one(s).
  7. Five... Simple.... 1) 1st wins; tie/indeterminate goes to the thread 2) Payment is Check/Money Order. I don't like e-places other than right here on these boards 3) Shipping: Boxed shipping via USPS is included within U.S. For Canada, please add actual shipping minus USD$20 4) Don't be listy including the little one in my head 5) Returns: Sure, just notify me within three days and get it back to me in the same shape on your dime. Kudos thread is linked under my avatar.
  8. Blackhawk #40 coverless. Long before the Silver Age brought us Lady Blackhawk, there was Sheila Hawke, the eighth Blackhawk and their true first female member. This is her first (only?) appearance. $20
  9. From Here to Insanity v.3 #1 (last issue; becomes Crazy, Man, Crazy). 1956 Charlton, Gerber 6; probably tougher than that. VG range, cover detached at bottom staple. Bill Ward, Ditko, Wolverine art. An 8.5 went $1,572 on HA in 2019; let’s go (WAS $300.) NOW $250
  10. Captain America Comics #65 incomplete; missing three center wraps (back half of a Cap story and a six-page Human Torch story). Cover detached. Tape along bottom edge of covers. 53 universals on census. $600
  11. I looked at how easily it might remove but it’s taped back and front around all edges so I’m not sure what would occur. I need to look more closely without inadvertently forcing it.
  12. Don’t be sorry; thank you! That’s why I posted it. I certainly can’t see any higher than 1.0, and I can easily see 0.5. While I have no plans to submit it myself, I’d love to have my head around whether it would get a blue or purple. I think it belongs in blue, but it is a lot of amateur fussing/taping and I don’t work in Sarasota, so who knows which it gets?? I’ve seen lots of old books with weird stuff but this is about as extensive as I’ve seen among amateur weirdness.
  13. Great grab John! I was eating dinner at the wrong time. Love that splash too.
  14. No such luck Jay; it’s affixed. I don’t think it leached; it’s covering the front cover as well and is opaque but see-through.
  15. Thanks Sha; good call re: parchment paper. Even closer to that!
