  1. Further to that, the chemicals may not all remain just as they are when released. That is to say, if by-product of deterioration A and B are both released, there is a concern that they will combine and form chemical AB, which may cause even further issues." She went on to say that "breathing, is the goal." Essentially all paper materials have a moisture content and sealed moisture along with the acids from the the paper and ink may in some cases accelerate the degradation of the paper. Interleaving paper, or "microchamber" paper that CGC adds to the inside of the books is designed to absorb some of the acids released by the paper in the comics, however if sealed air tight it could result in deterioration as well." Thanks Marvelmaniac; it’s definitely not micro chamber paper; I had a bunch custom cut and insert myself in my GA and some later books. It’s some kind of wax paper, brownish and translucent. Definitely an amateur effort of some sort.
  2. My numeric guess is same grade range as Nick’s but I’m not sure if it would get blue, or be tagged as amateur resto.
  3. Boardieland, what do we think the grade and label would be on this? I don’t think the cover was reattached, but it may be. But is wrapped/reinforced with a translucent wax paper on both sides of the covers, using tape. Book is complete and easily readable, cf detached. Any thoughts appreciated on this oddball! @Robot Man Bob, could this be the work of Pop Hollinger? Taping is similar but I’ve never seen the wax paper thing done on another book myself.
  4. No additions tonight as it got late early, but I will scrounge for more that I can bear to part with, as requested via PM. (Y’know, ya can use the PM function to send a reasonable offer too. Again, comps were not easy/plentiful and therefore required extrapolation. You may extrapolate differently, and that’s ok.)
  5. I loved Black Monday Murders. Last 8 issues, a handful of years ago, from Image. I think you can get it as 2 tpb’s too. I realize your question is much broader than good reads, but it’s what I’ve got off the top of my head and an easy kickstart. I would say OA but you’re there already….has it been a while since you bought a collection comprised of something other than the usual suspects for back issues? I always find I enjoy buying a collection more when there’s at least a chunk of unfamiliar stuff I can read once and then release.
  6. A very partial Crash Comics #5 (Nov 1940) Tem Publications, last issue, which happened to be Catman’s 2nd appearance and first cover appearance, Sadly, there’s just 20 of the 68 pages here, but it includes the entire Catman story. The pages are soft and slightly brittle (I’ve added micro chamber paper) but can be read carefully, as I have. Only 15 copies on the census; maybe someone can finish one, or just wants to take over stewardship of this Catman tale? I’ll picture all pages so we can enjoy them here. Comps are tough; complete 4.0 sold for $3840 on May 15; a 2.0 brittle in 2015 was $215. Let’s go $100
  7. Anyone know where that Secret Agent Z-2 first appeared? Hmmm…. Under the first Chatman cover, that’s correct…which brings us to….
  8. SOLD! Holyoke One-Shot #7, missing centerfold. These don’t bring much but they are incredibly rare and cool to own and enjoy. Back cover is sheer awesomeness. $30
  9. Crime and Justice #13 tough Charlton with great cover. As you can see below a portion of an interior splash is largely torn out. A complete low-grade on eBay is asking $93. Let’s go (WAS $40) NOW $20
  10. Just read through this thread. Only info I can offer to the central debate of all Jack/how much Jack is this anecdote: shortly after Kirby passed, I was visiting with Joe Sinnott to interview him. He showed me two Kirby recreations he had been asked by Jack to ink — Avengers 4 and FF 49. At the time of Kirby’s passing, Joe had not yet inked them and he said he could not bring himself to do so because he thought they may well be the last pencils Jack did. He then made me look close at the lines on the characters on the covers, and sure enough there was an almost fractal nature to the pencils; you could see the impact of the shake. This TOS 39 recreation does not exhibit what I saw on those other two, so maybe, since TOS wasn’t meant to be inked, someone did touch up the pencils? Just speculation on my part, comparing this one to the ones I saw. I don’t know what became of those pieces; Joe Sinnott’s sons still do cons offering their dad’s work; maaaaybe they would know? I will ask if I see them at Albany Comic Con.
  11. I’ll listen to reasonable PM’s, gang. Comps on Timelys in general are tough enough, let alone translating them to incomplete books.
  12. I could see that. I didn’t think of Warlord because I agree and what more could be done with him? But Kamandi’s run was maybe half as long (59 issues; slowly working my way through a recently completed run, so maybe I’m partial right now. Loved the ones I read as a kid.) I just think of Kamandi as a whole rich world they could do more with. Maybe I’ll feel different once I read the whole thing; maybe he character is tapped out. Not that this equates to underrated, but I keep thinking that if the movie studios reach for comics other than strict superheroes for big budget material, DC has 2 of the best 3 candidates for non-hero movies: Kamandi and the Challs. (My third top-of-head pick is Magnus in our ever more robot- and AI-obsessed world.)
  13. No pix handy but off the top of my head: Kamandi, Woodgod @kav (Marvel Premiere 31) and the Shroud (SVTU #5).
