  1. What do you think, Eric, looking at the book in hand? There are lots of things to look for. Enlarged staple holes on the outer cover, where the alignment isn't perhaps quite there, staples looking odd / staples showing duress, a looseness, overhang, inconsistent handling wear etc. If your book is tight, and perfectly cut, how likely is that: Someone would have chosen this book anyway (cheap experiment copy?) They would have found a newsstand and direct with near identical post cut staple placement... ....and that that placement resulted in a near identical wrap for both covers They would have constructed it without causing any damage / creasing Would these two plucked from eBay line up perfectly, do you think, if you tried to place one cover over the other? Add to that how you found it - unheralded, $3 and likely previously unowned. CGC aren't the be all and end all - posts some more pictures / scans if you can and we can all have a crack at assessing it I had an ASM #361 with three covers once. I thought it was a construct, as there was one broken staple and the outer cover was slightly loose - those red flags didn't stop someone buying it though. They decided, if anything, that the damage was natural, thinking 'who would try to pass off a triple cover with a broken 'red flag' staple'? More likely it broke trying to penetrate three covers? All good fun
  2. Sabretooth #2 (and #4) has been on the missing list since I started documenting the Marvel APVs... ...so I was excited to see this copy on eBay Orstralier this morning: Look closely though, and it's the US copy. I checked the barcode, and it is the same as the US copy too. The seller likely made a mistake and carried the description over from his other lots - he sold 1-3: One and three are APVs. The eagle eyed will have spotted the Australian distribution 'N2' on the book though: Add to that how many US copies I have seen of issue two on eBay AUS, and it does seem to point to that issue failing for some reason to get the APV treatment. Expect an AUS copy along any minute then, now that I've said that

  4. I know what she means, and it's a personal choice, but I find it's fun to share sometimes. Sharing with like minded collectors can be as much fun as collecting the comics themselves. Good luck - I'll keep an eye open for the missing issues and PM you if I spot any in the UK. It's amazing how many turn up over here
  5. Fun though. I like these oddities which break the rules.
  6. Sounds like a good horror story - a disemboweled cat
  7. Yes, I agree. But millions and millions of comics have been printed. The improbable is going to happen every now and then.
  8. To me, that makes it likely. If both cover types being manually loaded together isn't out of the ordinary, and multiple covered books is a thing, then our scenario here is a statistical certainty, surely.
  9. It's a brave man who places Sylvester above Tom and Peter, but you're right of course. Each to their own. That said, Capaldi is The Doctor
  10. Oh, I don't know. 148 is a good number based on previous contests I think. The boards are quite quiet lately and it hasn't been flagged to the wider world, so there's more of a smaller, community feel, this time.
  11. It's just image gathering and issue plotting really, Reggie. Fun though, to watch the patterns develop.
  12. If he takes up my earlier cheese suggestion, I'll be on board. Poppycock!
  13. I bought it only about 3 years after it came out, I'm 90% sure it went directly from the shelf to the back issue bins at the store. It was not being sold as a double cover, I only discovered it after I got it home... I think I paid around $3 for it. I have no reason to doubt it's legit, although I get why anybody else would have reason to be skeptical. I'll freely admit it's a weird one. Did we all discuss this once before? I don't know explicitly how the books were batched and stapled back in the day, but I can see how a run of newsstand covers could have been put on top of a run of direct, then fed in as a group to be stapled with the guts. The bottom copy of one type and top copy of the other could then have found their way on the same book by sticking together. Did that make sense? Probably not.
  14. They don't crop up all that often now, pence copies - this is the first copy I've seen for some time. It's not in the best shape - a full length crease throughout - but presents well and you've got to take them when they come, really.
  15. I've just seen that I said 'dog it out' instead of 'dig it out'. And just after posting a picture of K9. That's quite cool
  16. I drew what I thought was a nice Tom Baker montage which included SOB, for the old fanzine DWB. They never used it though, just chopped off K9 for the front cover. I'll try to dog it out at some point. I loved Baker as Who. A true one off. But Capaldi is The Doctor. I say that often, but he is. I'm not too fussed about the destruction of the show anymore. It ended when he did with, let's be fair, nowhere else to go.
  17. It's good to have a break, once in a while. I'm not long back from the coast myself. I like the sea. Now, what did you learn during your sabbatical Buzz? Don't keep us all in suspence (I spelt that wrong on purpose)
  18. That looks nice Buzz - have you been away?
