  1. Cheers Max I was watching an old episode of Inspector Morse the other day, and was struck by how one of the actors - Terence Hardiman - reminded me of Peter Capaldi: Probably the 'attack' eyebrows One of those actors who you recognise but don't know the name. I often do that, catch actors in shows and wonder whether they would have been good in the part. I'd love to have seen Geoffrey Bayldon have a go... I think he would have done well back in the day, as an older, mysterious, slightly cranky yet kindly incarnation. What might have been, eh....
  2. These 15c variants are proving to be quite hard to find, and I'm starting to wonder how few copies may have been made. It doesn't surprise me that finding 50 year old Harvey comics in the UK is hard going but there are so few copies turning up and there is so little to find about their distribution. Here is a snippet from a UK fanzine of the time which indicates how scarce Charlton and Gold Key were in 1972 - Harvey doesn't get a mention here or in any of the other copies I have found of the time: I've been adding to my pence stamped collection though, and here is a nice example from March 1971, which carries a 6p stamp that differs to some of the 15c variant stamped copies that would follow: Little Dot becomes Big Dotter in this issue, in case you were interested I'm kicking myself for saving these two books in my files years ago as examples of UK stamped copies and not, at the time, realising they were US price variants: I could so easily have bought them just as examples of the stamps, and then had a nice surprise when I went on to discover that 15cvs existed. And I recall that they went unsold for a few rounds on eBay at least. I've yet to see another copy of either. Ah well, I'll keep digging....
  3. I've scanned and posted the covers that I have in the Gallery section here Qalyar: I'll be posting the content and indicia details soon....
  4. Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig, does whatever a Spider-Pig can
  5. That's the one! That one or Spider-Pig, I can't remember now.
  6. Maybe not, but they're comics and a part of comic history. You're not one of those people who want the past to be eradicated, are you, if it doesn't suit modern sensibilities? There's no equivalence here JJ - comics are comics - offensive posts that have nothing to do with comics aren't. This is a comic forum and the moderator has set some boundaries on non comic content. That's it. I'm off now, night time in Blighty. Have fun
  7. Nor do CGC. They're all internationals to them. Do you think one day there will be a great big comic summit, everyone will have their say and then battle it out to arrive at some standard terminology that we all have to use going forward? Look out! A flying pig.
  8. Do you always answer a question with a question? OK. No, I think as comic enthusiasts they would love them. Again, no. That's misrepresenting my position again. I want people to stop posting things that are clearly beyond the pale for a comic forum. Mike agrees, and he is the moderator who sets the rules. That is nothing to do with the wider constraints you refer to in society which I agree with you on in many respects. This is a comic forum. It's not wider society. Noted.
  9. Do you think you should be able to post whatever you like here without any limitations?
  10. That's misrepresenting what others are saying, JJ. Fragility has got nothing to do with it. This has: You're just being asked to tone it down a bit. Not much to ask, is it.
  11. I don't mind you having fun at all but some of the posts in this thread are getting out of hand and are just plain offensive. CGC are trying to attract more members here - and more women, hopefully. There was a recent Con report that said how many women were coming into the hobby. Is this what you want them to see when they find this site - soft porn and gifs of women defecating? Why do you think Mike has just issued that warning? Is it because you're over stepping the mark? Do you respect Mike or not? He gave you all your own thread and you repay him by pushing boundaries that you should really know are off limits. Personally, I don't see why we have to have what is essentially a WC thread in CG just because some of you guys can't be trusted with 'off topic' posting. You made a really kind, well judged post in one of my threads the other day Krypto, which I appreciated. And now you're telling me to go screw myself for having an opinion on this thread's content and location? Rather than act like a big kid, why not respond in the Moderation Discussion thread like a man, and state your case if you disagree with what I posted? It is a discussion thread after all, and you may find that more people agree with your position than mine. Remember - Mike gave you guys the thread - and placed it here in CG - so you've half the battle won already.
  12. It doesn't look like there's a straightforward answer really, does it. Each option has its downsides I suppose. That's one of the things with comics - whenever you try to categorise them, you hit snags, outliers and issues. And there will always be someone who disagrees with the approach. All good fun
  13. ".....we are experiencing extremely high call volumes at present because you have rung us during our opening hours."
  14. "...your call is important to us, so we're going to hammer nails into your head every five minutes over a 35 minute window and play some screeching music in between"
  15. It's the curse of the modern age: companies with departments that you can't speak to.
  16. Worth a try, inside agent and all.... Hope it gets resolved somehow
  17. Not my copy, but I spotted this on eBay the other day: The owner was clearly a Batman & Robin and a Beatles fan: Although, maybe not Batman & Robin...
  18. Joking aside, I was thinking a bit more about this Eric. What do you think the eligibility criteria should be for a misprint to be included on the GCD as a separate entity? Is there a current criteria, even? I like your point that if an error edition is widely enough known that it should perhaps be included as it is a 'thing' and people will want to collect it. But where do you draw the line? What if there are comics with multiple error types in evidence (e.g. ASM #188)? Should they all be included too? And who gets to decide, if so? It's quite an interesting situation - do you include all of them, none of them or only selected ones which meet a certain criteria? Steven - what's your view / understanding? @Steven Coates
  19. People are afraid of what they don't understand Steven. In this case, a challenge to their 'authority' I shouldn't wonder.
  20. Talk out loud to a phone as you grade and it is converted to text, grading is done and notes are completed concurrently. Notes downloaded at end of grading session. Not much more time from the actual graders. I tried that actually. Here are my audio converted to text notes for Gorgo #1: Slight cover bend to bottom left front cover slight staining multiple spine creases Steve your dinner's ready shhh I'm trying to grade my comics oh sorry I didn't know I'll be down in a minute rusty staples.
