  1. Funny that we were both doing the same thing on opposite sides of the pond isn't it. I wonder how many more will turn up. It's all gone quiet...
  2. It's a shame isn't it. I did a collection for an elderly lady yesterday whose husband had died. 20 boxes of books which, she told me, represented about a tenth of his collection. They were mostly WWII books and a lot of tv and film history. She said that what he didn't know about either you could write on the back of a stamp. All that knowledge gone. We chatted a while, as people who are recently bereaved do, and agreed how rotten death was. How it takes your loved one, but also everything they knew and had built up over their lives, both physically and mentally. I'll be back there next week for the next load which, alas, will probably sell for peanuts, if at all, in our charity shops. Nothing fair in life.
  3. Indeed. On the positive, the search engine here is so rubbish that in a few years time no one will be able to find any of it
  4. I'm off to the fart sac as Jim would say. Happy Thanksgiving for tomorrow to all on the other side of the pond!
  5. I've only suggested it about 84 times already in the thread. Pay attention!
  6. Yes, the boards search function is appalling - even Arch recommended the use of Google once as I recall. Google throws up about ten thread suggestions using the search term "Northland Pedigree": It's not perfect but worth a shot.
  7. Genuinely not being argumentative, but could you give me an example of something you can't find? A term that, say, you would type into the boards search function and expect to find what you're looking for?
  8. Yep, just trying to help as you mentioned key word and author.
  9. If you know the author, here's a way to find old threads that might help you: Let's take greggy, as he's been here forever. Step 1 - go to his profile page: Step 2 - click on 'see their activity' to the far right of his avatar to bring up this page: Step 3 - from the left hand menu, select 'Topics' under 'Forums' and it will bring up a list of all the threads greggy has created since joining: Step 4 - go to the final page, scroll down and you will see his first ever thread - in this case 'What Bugaboo does when he is alone!': Step 5 - select that and you're back to a 17 year old thread: So as long as you know the author, you should be able to find anything with patience. For anything with a key word, Google is far better than the boards search tool. Just search "your key word" www.cgccomic.com I did it yesterday to help Domo Arigato find a Daniel Dupcak post. The key word was 'tarbash' so I searched "tarbash" www.cgccomics.com and got this:
  10. Proving the old adage that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! If you like them, that's all that matters
  11. I'm not a fan myself. The label seeks your attention and in doing so detracts from the comic. The comic is the star, not the label. It sort of disrespects the cover artist too I feel. Don't look at that Kirby cover - look at my lovely label! I can understand why you do like it, as it does have a certain snazziness in isolation. But not sitting above a book. And certainly not above a book of a certain age, where the modern label art is at odds with the comic cover art which is from a completely different era. CGC should concentrate on subtle labels with accurate information. Not flashy gimmicks to inflate their coffers.
  12. Spotted this copy on ebay: It's nice to see the correct 'UK Price Variant' label being used but I have to say I really dislike the customised character labels. The image of Spidey here is a modern one - not particularly good - and seems at odds on this old Ditko cover. The label looks dark, busy and it detracts (in my view) from the book itself. The book should be the showcase every time, not some funky label. A poor move on CGC's part I think. The pursuit of money superseding respect for the book and those that worked on it.
  13. I've updated the journals list to show: Comics 1,269 confirmed APVs 103 confirmed titles Current Confirmed APV Issue List In addition, the APV magazine update shows: Magazines 3 confirmed magazine titles: Conan Saga - 31 of 40 Conan the Savage - 4 of 4 Savage Sword of Conan - 37 of 40 Gary Martin provided a better image of GI Joe #122, which looked like a stickered copy. It is, but is has an '06' APV barcode number, compared to an '03' US Newsstand edition: When you look at the APV sticker, you can see the absence of the Curtis Circulation 'CC' symbol which should, based on the US Newsstand copy, be visible at the bottom of the sticker: The partially exposed dollar symbol looks smaller too. So G.I. Joe #122 is counted as an APV due to the unique barcode number, but it's also possible that it will have an AUS printed price too with, perhaps, the wrong month (as is the case with Captain America #407 / 410)
  14. Can you believe it Alice... All that time waiting then two in the same week. Unbelievable
