  1. Ha! They look good side by side. You can really see the missing black: Sinister Tales ran for 227 issues: Yours is number 123, mine 153. Didn't take him long to use the issue again did it! Nice 8p price blob Jim
  2. I've put up a poll. I don't know if that's been done before, or indeed whether it will be allowed to stay. Maybe if we get hundreds of votes, we can refer it to CGC for their attention. I'm not going to post in it or comment. It will stand as it is.
  3. No, I just saw it on Ebay - didn't buy it. The price was staggering as I recall. Not there now though, so it was either sold or pulled....
  4. A chance to voice your opinion and send a message to CGC
  5. Indeed. I've owned about 200 CGC's down the years but have never submitted. None of the previous generation holders I owned had this problem. They're opening an office in London soon so I was planning to take my AF15 and ASM 1-10 along for the treatment. I can't see me doing that while this is going on though so hope they do something soon to allay our concerns
  6. Yes. The top two pictures aren't showing on my screen but do if you click on them:
  7. Yes, looks like the final black ink plate wasn't applied to the Alan Class reprint. Not sure if they're all like it, but it should look like the original Forbidden Worlds book:
  8. Double cover. I don't think I knew there was a double cover thread when I posted it.
  9. This stance is baffling to me. CGC: It is not acceptable to your customers and they are telling you this. It is baffling, yes. Also, if the rings are consider by CGC to be 'normal and acceptable', why would they offer a (presumably free?) reholdering service? The offer to reholder is surely an acceptance / acknowledgement that the presence of newton rings is undesirable, no? The only logical explanation I can think of is that they have ordered so many of the new cases that to dump them would represent an extinction level cost. Maybe they did not undertake sufficient due diligence before placing the bulk order. They hope that they can get away with running down the supply before bringing in a modified, better tested version. All this speculation on the owners boards is surely damaging, so the need to make a statement must be growing. There's no two ways to say it - a service to encapsulate a prized possession for posterity that places ugly rings across that possession simply cannot stand. It cannot be justified. Unless the customers are prepared to accept them that is. We're not, are we?
  10. Does this much loved Ross Andru run from my youth need a club? Yes.
  11. Great! I'll add him to the list. I've located a few more myself, including one for a title on the no-title list. Watch this space
  12. That's nice. The Dell Pence thread is cooking up nicely AJD. Hopefully landing soon...
  13. Thanks Gary. @tv horror Maurice and I were discussing this book by PM recently, currently on eBay for a comparatively eye watering sum: Ordinarily I would pick copies like this up for under ten pounds just for research - to post here and have for the files. Those days seem to be fading as I've noticed an increase in books selling for more and more lately. Modesty aside, I wonder if these threads actually draw attention to the scarcity of these books and perhaps influence some sellers? I always assume only three men and a dog read my pence threads but maybe they are actually part of the cause for the wider recognition? When I was a Spidey completist group member we would say that it's best to keep quiet on discoveries and trends until you have the books yourself. I like to share info however but I'm wondering now if I'm my own worse enemy by posting this stuff! Still, I only collect the Millers, Charltons and a few other pence publishers now. Though I wish I had done so sooner, the Marvel and DC boat of opportunity has long since sailed and only a lottery win would push me to go for the pence sets there (3,017 pence and 839 DC). Ah well...
  14. Hi Gary, Thanks for posting this - it is one of the Miller indicia variants so we have 16 confirmed now of a possible 22: Just to clarify based on my understanding of your post, the Miller variants are identified by the distribution wording at the foot of the indicia on the inside front cover. If you look at your GW #64 indicia again you'll see the 'Exclusively printed...' wording: The Miller distribution endeavour lasted from May 1960 to August 1961. The initial copies had 9d printed prices as well as the additional Miller indicia wording so are 'price variants' (I think your 6B is actually a 6D stamp if you look closely). The remaining copies from September 1960 are all priced at 10c but with the Miller indicia making them 'indicia variants'. The US 10c copies do not have the wording. I've shared some e-mails with Jon McClure, a published comic historian, and believe that he will recognise these variants in his market report in the latest Overstreet. I'm waiting for my copy to arrive to see if it's in there. He kindly referred me to Overstreet as an adviser and I will be hopefully be going down that route soon. I'm hoping I may be able to put together either a market report outlining all my pence research or perhaps a full article. We shall see
  15. Well done guys! And Mark - an extra well done to you for flying the flag for Class of 2016
  16. The things that should be said, are not said. The things that should happen, do not happen. The support that should manifest, does not manifest. The blocks that are carefully placed - interlocking - are not seen as a wall. Joy is elusive, hate and envy immediate. And that's the way we all go.
