  1. I feel the same way/ I'll be honest, I only found that piece the day of auction. It wasn't what I was targeting. What kept me from getting involved is it would've been a complete impulse buy. I think it's an outstanding piece and at 16x21. Frank's stuff goes an ez $10,000 all the time. In my opinion this should've gone for that amount minimum based on the size and quality. I hope this went to a collector not a dealer. Someone who wanted it as a fan, and feels lucky they got such a good deal.
  2. Quality is important. This Frank Miller Punisher just sold for a bit under $5k. It's everything I look for in the character. Believe me, the Punisher will always have value when drawn properly. Frank and Mike Zeck are my favorite on the character.
  3. 100% Bronty. We have bridge jumpers in the hobby. They are risk takers. They get a rush from the action. Very much like horse racing when a guy puts $150,000 to show on a Secretariat caliber horse because he can't finish out of the money. The most the guy can make is .10 on every $2 bet. Bridge jumper? Because they get high off the action but every once in awhile Man O War doesn't come in the money. The bettor gets cleaned out. I truly believe we have a few nut jobs out there placing bets on their HA bids. Getting a thrill at pushing it to the limit but hoping not to go beyond the actual red line. What happens when they go too far and "win" an auction. 😱 There's no doubt we have many more price defenders though. In a way they reproduce some normative values to support their own assets, but I think it's detrimental in other important ways. Ethically. It may depress a real price, higher or lower, that could pour some real juice enthusiasm into the market. Feeling like you don't have a chance at 80% of lots is not healthy for the market to gain new dedicated collectors. When I buy something I'm prepared to accept the ups and downs of the financial value of that art. Worrying about tracking and bidding up an artist or run because I have similar assets in my portfolio sounds exhausting and narcissistic. If you don't have interest in buying a piece, don't get involved in price defending. Tracking bids are ok but higher than 10% of the perceived and peer recognized FMV smells like manipulation. Or do and live with yourself. 2 🕷️-cents

  7. Mike Parobeck Harley..... $97k + on 12 pg. 7 absolutely the page for me if I had that kind of cabbage stored in the refrigerator. Pg. 9 a healthy $67,000. Comiclink storming back with a results oriented homerun auction. That 16x21 Frank Miller Punisher at under 4900 was a great buy.

  13. That's one of my favorites things to do is show art to other artists I meet, when they are interested. Sometimes they know, and sometimes they'll ask who the artist is. Like you said, I think it's natural to want to see what company the art is keeping, that you let go to a client. Trudging around with a regular size and sometimes larger Itoya is my least favorite physical activity to endure at a con. I have an Itoya for 9x12 drawings, that's the one most likely to get left somewhere. Gary Frank, besides being a terrific artist, sounds like a pretty cool guy also.

  15. I was asked this question by someone who collects modern comics. This copy has the red Marvel in the left corner. What's confusing is Mile's Morales' face is not showing. it does not have all the info in the white box and it ends in 111. How do I value this book? That is, it was bought from a comic store. 2nd printing has red marvel and you can see Miles face. So I hear facsimile, but it was released by Marvel, correct? I read every post but I'm still confused and would appreciate some help. If you guys look at the cover in the picture, is this a second printing or what? 😆 thank you all.

  17. I hear ya Bronty. But I'm not asking them to drop $5k off their prices. I'm just asking for a fresh approach. I understand the dealers face an inventory crunch. They have to pay more, so they sell higher. But how much return do you get from dead pulp? I was suggesting that what's in it for the dealers is rebuilding loyalty. The pipelines used to run more smoothly. It's not just pricing. It's attitude. Take it or leave it. I respect many of the dealers I've bought something, or sold something to just about anyone you could name. But today I'm a lone wolf. It's not just prices that are freezing me out. It's a feeling that some guys just don't care about leaving stale bread on the display case. CAL is a terrible place to put $150k plus art. It's more of self promotion, than taking advantage of an opportunity to network and keep collectors interested. I do hear you. It is a Christmas wish I reckon. Still, it's nice to hope for more.   18. Did everyone who viewed a page get a reduced price offer? The guys were talking about that feature where a seller can tag all their viewers with a message, and first to respond wins. Anyone take advantage of that or were the lowered prices not sufficient?
  19. If I were a dealer, I wouldn't bring the same tired, stagnant art to CAL. Do you want to win collectors over? Maybe grow loyalty to your business? How about introducing reasonably priced, never before seen art to CAL? Do you really need to save your "fresh" inventory for gimmick shows? I went through the CAL inventory and constantly found myself saying," uggh there it is again." I liked Dino Mauricio leading the afternoon Sunday show. He pointed out various good buys/ good looking art. Bill Cox and Dan P chimed in. CAL is improving, but I'd really appreciate a focus on honest to goodness freshly presented art, at no more than FMV pricing.
