  1. Tom Palmer is the inker not Austin. Sorry.
  2. Discipline within the panels like no other artist I can think of. Movement and choreography. Well done to acquire this beauty.
  3. Many thanks to Jack (signs twice) and Jack and Caroline Katz who's gourmet dish inspired Kirby's drawing as a thank you gift.
  4. I have a prestigious Baller Award. Makes all the sweat and tears of OA collecting worth it.
  5. Your page is magnificent. K I R B Y is the greatest, the absolute King of comics. Bill Everett on Namor and DD produced art too good for comics. When these 2 worked together on your page some sort of miracle took place. Thanks for sharing.
  6. You are right. I knew that too. the great Tom Palmer of course.
  7. It's crazy what prices we see sometimes. It's ridiculous of course. Still better to see the price. It's come up before about those sellers who encourage you to "inquire" about a price and than send you a greedy buy it now sucker price. I dislike the minimum bid auto decline process on these pages. The fella above who offered 10k maybe would pay more if he had some give and take with the seller. Auto decline is a dispassionate robot smack to the face. Still, even with the good, the bad, the ugly...OA collecting and all that comes with it is a blast! Truly respect all the comments and opinions on these threads. mike
  8. Helped my brother buy this page from SS 1 shot 1982 Byrne/Austin. I love the Silver Surfer.
  9. I hate them too. Sometimes I buy art that I believe I can sell or trade for a bit higher than what I paid. But there sits the page/price on the net because the lazy inconsiderate seller won't take it down. Gives the person I'm trying to deal with ammunition to argue with me. On the flip side/// I've seen pages for example that I'm trying to buy say $3000 and I do a search, to see it sold recently for $1500. Obviously that is a big help to me to decide whether I'm over paying. But I do hate dealers who won't remove sold pages anyway!!! Remember one thing..art is worth what some one is willing to pay for it. People get hung up on flipping art as a negative thing. It can be annoying especially as it's done by a few dealers rightfully scorched routinely on this site. However if you see a page with unlimited growth potential don't get hung up on, " I could've had it for $500 and now he wants to sell for $900," If you can see the future of that page paying off buy it! If not let it pass and don't get stressed out. All the best. I respect all the great opinions expressed here. mike
  10. My brother owns this page above. I helped him get it about ten years ago for $450. I sold another page privately around the same time for $2500 with the Surfer flying on his board. This one shot artistically with a great story line is one of the best comics to come out in the early 1980's. These are hard to come by because collectors like me read the comic in 1982 and want just one page to keep for nostalgia. In the early 2000's I saw at least 10 pages sell on ebay all in $400-$700 range. Today Byrne FF pages are blistering hot. However this is not Fantastic Four and some people take note of that when considering the SS 1 shot. The good news is this. If you own this page?? It's a great one and you should try to keep it. If you are trying to buy it...I think these pages from SS 1 shot have superior art work by Byrne/Austin and have unlimited investment potential for the future. Fans remember this really is one of the great Surfer Comics. The one you posted did sell on ebay once I'm sure of it but I can't find that auction history. It's a cool page:-)
  11. Ha ha ha I'll never let up on the brothers grim either. They bought something on Heritage a few moons ago for $600 and 9 months later my inquiry was an offer to sell to me at a generous mark up of only $4500. Hey anyone can ask whatever they want when they own something! I just can't be that guy that buys it though.
  12. Best practice: keep a general idea of what pieces are going for that you are interested in. That is everything from ebay, auction houses and dealers. Than bid or buy accordingly. I've seen art bought and relisted (flipped) and the buyer loses. You usually make money if you buy something under the radar than sell privately. I do believe if you buy what you love, art for art sake, you won't lose. everything else is gambling/stock market ups and downs. Great forum everyone. I appreciate all the opinions here.
  13. Hey Carlo, I saw probably 10 SS 4 cover recreations over the years. I didn't buy one back in the day because of that. However when they sell they seem to go over 2k so it's a favorite image for fans. I would buy one today just because I loved big John's Surfer work so much. Good luck Mike
  14. Simply the knockout acquisition of 2017.One of the most heart warming comic stories ever. Can't say enough about this. The art of course is great. Great job getting this one done at all costs:-)
  15. One of my favorite covers ever. This was my first Treasury that my dad bought me.John you are such a classy guy. All the best wishes to you.
  16. I'll keep my eyes and ears open and let you know if I find any H U L K Hostess ads. I think it's a worthy collector goal. Good luck.
  17. KC I loved your Doom gallery.May I tell you the Steve Epting piece moved me the most. I just can't believe how much work and concentration went into the art.Thank you so much for your post.
  18. Two major players with a take on DR Doom. Bermejo I love. Maybe the Thing has gotten under Doom's armored skin? Tim Sale I've watched him work in person and he is as fluid/talented as I've seen. That DR Doom is classic and I wish it were mine. Add these two Doom greats to our ever growing Doom shrine. Thanks for the posts Monster
  19. The Cover to New Avengers #32 March 25, 2015 One of my favorites on CAF. What a great idea to have room dedicated to DOOM.
