  1. If the Stones could have sympathy for the devil, surely, you could have a tinge of sympathy for 🍇 🦍, he of kind heart.
  2. Sounds like he made a life time predatory dealer instead.
  3. No Bob. That's why I titled this thread The Day After. Just to drive home that feeling of letting something go and seeing that the person that begged you for it is selling it immediately. I certainly wouldn't consider two years later a flip. Sometimes it's important to the seller to know why you want a page. They want to make sure you're not acting like a dealer. Other sellers could care less. 90% of what I buy is meant to be kept long term. My CAF and my private, unshown collection reflect that. But I think nearly all reasonable collectors understand art is bought and sold for whatever reasons, regardless of time. I do think tact and ethics go a long way towards sparing feelings and keeping this fun.
  4. Early 2000's I added my first John Byrne page to my collection. A year later, I started getting emails from a guy who pleaded with me to sell it to him. He said it was his favorite page, from his favorite story. I really didn't want to, but I finally did sell it. Now I didn't give it away, it was FMV I'd guess for that time. Anyways, I met the person in the city next to mine. They were eating at a restaraunt, I brought the page with me and exchanged it for cash. We chatted and I mentioned how hard it was to let it go. Not long after, I saw the page pop up on a personal web page, not the same guy I sold it to. There was a place to leave comments, and my buyer, same guy who pleaded to get the grail from me, wrote, " I told you I would get this one for you." WTH ? A real head scratcher. So the whole time the guy didn't want it for himself, he wanted to get it on behalf of someone else? What could I do? Honestly, it was irritating more than devestating. I realzie I didn't have to sell the page to him, I made that choice. I guess it was just the way he pursued it. It was like he would die if he didn't get it. Then he gets it and it goes to someone else. Did he make more money off of it? I'm not sure. I would presume so. "I told you I would get this one for you." That's what always got me. Did I turn someone down, and this guy came up with the sob grail story to help his buddy? Who knows. Again, I'm not about revenge just healing. That's all I hope for any of you who went through something like this.
  5. You were hounded. "It's my grail," they assured you. You are on the fence, but finally relent. You never wished to sell it. They had to have it. You take pity and sell, and reasonably priced in light of the special circumstances. Shortly thereafter, you see the same prized possession listed for multiples of what you let it go for. Scream. Cry. Tell us. How does it feel to get stabbed in the back? Do: Let this be a catharsis rather than a place of revenge. How did it feel? You see it at auction or on a dealer's web page.
  6. Before you try to sell it, reach out to an auction house. Heritage Auctions, ComicLink and others have art experts that can evaluate it for you. My gut is it's a print but you should verify it.
  7. Well, tell us more. What do you like about him? Is this his debut art? Links are also nice if you suggest an artist or topic.
  8. I'm glad you got to experience that. The European contribution to original comic art is significant. I try to keep an open mind, to see more art that's outside of my usual targets of interest.
  9. Ok gang, was anyone else traumatized by the way Nick held that permanent red ink marker over the twenty pages? Ball Busting Hall of Fame? Did the legend Tom Fish......??? a) put Nick on the clock when he took too long to accept a serious offer on the page 18 splash and b) walk away from Nick's $42,500 "counter offer" because Nick misread part of Tom's offer/ comments c) who the hell slipped this one in on Nick? Imagine, Nick thought he had the splash sold, now he's imploring Tom to meet the "counter" and not walk away. Nick is also trying to remember what pages have not sold and read the comments at the same time: "Nick, why don't you walk away and ask your brother, then come back at 50." it goes over the head of Nick but not grapey. I'm dead. This was a very entertaining stream imho. Nick appeared to do all right. One guy I think outmaneuvered quite a few collectors trying to keep powder dry was comic art boston. For me I'm glad I stayed out of it. It was an event for sure, but there will always, always be something else to obsess over.
  10. Wait a minute: Items went up from $45k to $65k and from $55k to $100k? Where have I heard complaints like these before? I'm staring at the banner of art dealers on my CAF page. Nothing. I'm at a complete loss. This must be a phenomena uniquely related to Lake FOMO. For the safety of all attendees, prices were likely raised to get your attention. It's like the poor flight attendant trying to teach flotation device protocol while the disinterested passengers watch TikTok. "You folks just don't get it." If those first sticker prices didn't agitate you to the proper FOMO, than the dealers were obligated, for your well being, to inject that FOMO in to you by shows end.
  11. Mixed signals Sigma reminds me of a guy who was in the banking business with me. If he showed up at a meeting, or at a branch wearing a green tie, it meant someone was getting fired that day. Young guy with the power of the Grim Reaper concerning employment. I digress, but these are crazy times. Glad we can have a little fun here.
  12. This is very cool.love it or loathe it, it will be very interesting to see where these price out per page. ASM 352 will sell again eventually. Suffering from recency bias? I'll be watching.
  13. I remember this one from the HA European Auctions a few years ago. Went for a pretty penny + if I recall correctly.
  14. I love the CAF comments. Some were fairly harsh, but I thought this one, by Court Gebeau, was spot on. I love the way his left tit comes out from behind his right tit so it can be seen, too! Liefeld is obviously a superhero, too...since he can so easily bend the rules of anatomy to serve his own evil plans!
  15. I tried to find a better Steve Rolston drawing than yours after you posted this here. Couldn't find one I liked better. Sometimes, you find yourself in the right place, at the right time. The man really came through for you. Cheers!
  16. Very tight pencils by Big John. Of course John's brother Sal inked Romita's published cover. This one is perfect just the way it is. and it better conveys the serious hurt being put upon our cosmic hero.
  17. "Nobody does it better, makes me feel sad, for the rest." "Nobody does it, half as good as you. Baby your the best." ---Carly Simon, obviously singing about Walt Simonson.
