  1. Your friendly neighborhood grapeape on the scene. Madness. And gladness. Hello Ariel
  2. Michael from Nuff Said outta New York. He's been doing this forever. Comics art toys whatever.
  3. Getting ready to enter the gates of hell. I'll see friends. I'll see foe. I'll see art. I'll spend dough. They'll ask, "whatcha got there?" I'll hug my portfolio tight replying, " nothing for YOU to markup and resell," then disappear.
  4. This auction is on eBay with 1 day to go. The provenance: comes from Marty Eck. Marty was a collector of Beatles and Monkees memorabilia. And other collectibles. That's what you have to go on. Good luck. https://www.ebay.com/itm/225670390771?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=TN-uvJZ7Tle&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=huUHVhc0Tca&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  5. I think that's where we come in right here. I love to try and help anyone. I know that collecting is competitive by nature. That doesn't mean we shouldn't look out for one another. Find yourself an OA buddy. Or two. No one goes it alone!!!
  6. I'm going to SDCC one of the four days. I will check every source. If I find a page or a lead I'll call you in the spot my friend. Never give up hope
  7. The stamp should not be considered at all as provenance or proof of authenticity. It doesn't make it real or fake. I must've passed on 100 "Bob Kane" drawings over the years. I wanted one but always felt uncomfortable with provenance. Kane Batman, along with Schulz Snoopy, are two of the most aped "originals" to seep into the OA world. Gratefully, after learning about Bill Finger my heartache from not owning a Kane plummeted to less than zero. I can't recommend that you try to return it. Maybe it is Kane? Then you'd be sad. However, if you come away desolate over the uncertainty, surely the "credible dealer" would offer trade value of what you paid? To keep a happy customer? Some issues you face. An insecure dealer who has passed this piece on may not want to take it back if they know about this thread. Doing so in their limited understanding might lay credence to an opinion that the piece is suspect. I do have some well meant advice though. If ever you have doubts, post to this thread "BEFORE" a purchase. There's an irrational fear that you'll lose a deal, somewhat FOMO related. You could've asked the dealer to HOLD that piece until the end of the day. Make this same post. Make use of what info you could trust. Than buy, or not. I fear you've only added to your anxiety by posting here. I hope you are able to "authenticate" this in a way that makes you feel certain. It's almost as if you had doubts, but purchased anyway.
  8. The Shadowhawk 2 splash.... wow.
  9. I wonder, is this how some folks out there intend to remember the great John Romita? This one sold for $101 after a weeklong listing by nolalostboy on eBay. I guess the 3 art gallery stamps on the back did not have the FOMO effect a seller might hope for. A different seller listed the Spider-Man with four characters. He says there is a written notation from John on the back but he's not taking it out of the frame and doesn't remember what it was. Are you sure it's original and not a print? His response was " life is full of risks you have to take a chance to find out." I wish he had the balls to put that quote in his listing that guarantees it's 100% original. Also the ask is approximately $10k. And he mentioned he cut a larger sized board to fit it in the frame? Any relation to the Brothers MarkUpAndCutUpAlot ?
  10. Damn it KirbyCollector. I came in here this morning to talk about art. Now I'm hungry for a 3 piece meal, but I can't decide on mashed potatoes and gravy, or macaroni and cheese with my biscuit.
  11. Not sure where you live, but we should collect money in a Go Fund Me and send you to SDCC. Ye Brothers Grimm will be there. Would love to see you in action with cameras rolling.
  12. There's definitely buyers remorse. When a piece has stigma attached it can be hard to enjoy it. Like I said before nothing against Matt's efforts. I just believe you don't add anything to a published piece. I suspect as cool as the piece is (was) it will be shipped around a few more times. As the various owners sit with the weight of the transgressions against a sanctified published piece of art, they will likely have trouble enjoying it.
  13. To which he told me "it's his to do with what he wants and since he'll never sell it, it doesn't matter."
  14. Rick that's happened to me more than you know. I have a piece that I sold to a guy twenty years ago. About 5 years later he offered to sell it back at a modest 30% markup. I hemmed and hawed. Changed email providers. Decided I wanted the art back but now I couldn't retrieve the email info. Have absolutely no clue, other than the state he lived in, how to contact him now. Also when CAF gallery's go cold. Art that was available or at least open to a discussion, but now the gallery owner no longer participates. No longer posting. No longer answering emails or leaving comments on other gallery's. Thats such a neat piece for a PS collector like you. Economic sense be damned. I know how much you love PS, so investing in the preservation of that piece sounds like a solid love of art decision.
  15. DPS should never, ever, be separated. Glad the pages are reunited.
  16. C.C. Beck 1975 Houston Con Door Prize Captain Marvel
  17. Superman by John Byrne. Door prize won by a young fellow at a small comic convention in Ithaca, NY. The year was 1985. I was not that person, but I was able to convince the now serious collector into allowing this one to find a new home, at the residence of ye very own Mr. Grape Ape. The deal was made some 20 years ago, and if you're interested in who the seller was feel free to look up the gallery of Michael Kenyon on CAF.
  18. Have you ever went to a convention that had an amazing original art door prize you could win? Even if you didn't win, tell us your experiences. What was the prize and where was the show. Share pics if you have them. Take a look at this one from 1974.
  19. You have the right temperment for this situation. Age and health no doubt were contributing factors in what happenned. I am sorry you did not receive the page. Your forgiveness of losing out is sincerely touching. I know in my heart it was some kind of mix up.
