  1. Yep. I got one, although the signature isn’t in a that bad a spot. I now ask artists to please sign in the margin or on the back.
  2. Which may be exactly why the Donnellys decided now was the time to put this up for auction.
  3. I only met Sim once, briefly, at a Con in the early 80’s. This thread isn’t about people being personally affronted by an artist, but whether their enthusiasm for their art is effected by their odious stances such as being bigoted, sexist, etc. Dave describes himself as a misogynist. And a lot of his later writings were pretty odious. M I was just pointing out that it wouldn’t effect my desire to own a Cerebus page. Care to jump in and defend any of the Comicsgate guys?
  4. “It wouldn’t be that big a stretch to categorize my writing as Hate Literature against women… in this Fascistic Feminist country” — Dave Sim
  5. Most art in this hobby is also collaborative. Dave Sim was (ave May still be) a misogynistic asswhole. Yet Gerhard, his brilliant collaborator on Cerebus, is as decent a person as there is. Would I turn down a great Cerebus page by Sim/Gerhard? No.
  6. When you have cheerleaders for this art like Neil Gaiman, Art Spiegleman and Frank Miller, it transcends the normal bounds of the hobby, IMHO. And its not just the art thats important. It dealt with the Holocaust in a popular entertainment forum in a way that was not common at the time. The subject matter is extremely important, as well.
  7. I plan on hitting up NYCC eventually. Not this year, though.
  8. Have the ComicsGate weirdoes weighed in on this yet? Something along the lines of "SJW's appealing to the female, or gay male, gaze, at the expense of red blooded American boob-loving hetero white guys?"
  9. I've seen some sentiment in the hobby that it would be a shame for this art to end up stashed in some duty old archive, out of sight, out of mind. But, I think the AF #15 art situations suggests that it would be just fine to be in a permanent museum collection.
  10. I realize the Donnellys have no interest in donating the art. I was just noting the comparison to the AF 15 art, and that I don't recall anyone being upset that it's in the Library of Congress vs some black hole collection.
  11. If this art gets a write up in the wall Street Journal or the NYT, it may get some heavy hitters into the bidding. Especially if it gets a nice big write up from, say, Art Spiegelman, who already did one for the New Yorker about 15 years ago.
  12. I think it's a legitimate concern to want these pages displayed in a permanent collection, if they are in a Museum setting, rather than sitting in an archive. But, is anyone complaining about the AF #15 art being in the Library of Congress? I think we are all happy it's being properly preserved, and that the public can get a first hand look at it upon request.
  13. Virtually every heavy hitter in this hobby will want a crack at this. And there may well be institutional bidders, and distinct interest outside the hobby as well.
  14. “When I pointed out that one can see parallels between the climax of “Master Race” and the Bruce Wayne origin sequence [in The Dark Knight Returns, Frank] Miller cut us off. ‘Oh, it’s not a parallel,’ he said with a little chuckle. ‘He came first and I imitated him.’” http://www.vulture.com/2018/04/frank-miller-talks-bernard-krigstein-dark-knight-inspiration.html
  15. This is one of those pieces that may get national media coverage outside of the hobby. It also may bring in a whole other group of collector’s. So. $50K is way, way too low. I agree with Gene.
  16. Here’s the link https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/bernie-krigstein-impact-1-complete-8-page-story-master-race-original-art-ec-1955-andlt-total-8-/p/7192-118001.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 Frankly, to me, this should be donated to the Library of Congress or the Billy Ireland collection at Ohio State. Maybe to the Lucas Museuem. It’s almost obscene that this historic masterpiece is being sold for filthy lucre.
  17. I don't think they will. I bet "Contest of Champions" is more likely.
  18. Well...unseen by the public, anyway. http://www.comicsbeat.com/tom-king-signs-heroes-in-crisis-while-crisis-on-infinite-earths-original-art-is-on-exhibit-at-fat-jacks-comicrypt-in-philadelphia/ (Scans of the art are at the link)
  19. Yeah. I'm totally not interested in setting up a subchapter S corporation in a state without an online sales tax, and making purchases of comic art through that entity. No siree Bob! (Seriously, IRS. I'm not).
  20. Yeah, at this point, I don't think Secret Wars is very highly regarded. The Beyonder is not a compelling or interesting character, and the only truly interesting idea to come from that series is the Symbiote. The entire MCU is based upon the mythos developed in the IG. And Starlin's philosophical and psychological characterizations are somewhat underrated.
  21. Yep. It’s not on par with TDKR, Watchmen or KJ story wise. But as a touchstone in pop culture and the hobby, it’s starting to close the gap quite significantly. The quality of the art is somewhat subjective, as I am not a big Miller TDKR fan, but obviously many people love it. Watchmen is just OK, from an art perspective. KJ is superb, of course. (My Bolland fandom showing here). But IG is nice stuff!
  22. DC won’t have any records, as the Character was owned by Fawcett until the 1970’s.
