  1. It will be if you keep holding it in your hand and it's not encased. It doesn't take much to wake the sleeping dogs at CGC.
  2. I don't participate in grading anything I haven't owned and I compare so many to the AF15 I had which was a 5.0. I also had an ASM 16 graded at 9.2. So i look to those books and the hundreds I owned which were never slabbed but were really nice. So, When I look at this book, the major flaw is the deterioration occurring on the right hand cover. I suspect it was stored poorly. The paper seems to actually be disintegrating and I have that on a JIM 84 here This however is really good. The spine is great, the color vibrant. no real color breaks at all. It's significantly nicer that the AF15 was and would be higher in my mind if not for the right hand side. CGC tends to be more forgiving of older books and this is an older book. 5.0, 5.5 makes little sense to me. I'm still up in the 7.0+ range. I'll be interested in the CGC grade.
  3. I'm up in the 7.5 possible 8.0 range particularly given the age of the book. No checks on the spine at all with reasonable corners. Great color and sheen. The decay on the far right of the cover brings it down substantially. I can only surmise it was stored with out a backing board for a long time. If the right hand cover was better, it would be an 8-0-8.5 ( but it isn't)
  4. I believe you indicated having a copy of Overstreet. Look at the larger ads. Find out their prices and compare. Many of their websites show asking price and grade.
  5. I don't think offending anyone has anything to do with it. You state what you're willing to pay. You may get ignored, maybe not, maybe you'll get a counter offer. I personally hate dickering but some people love it.
  6. without considering the blue goop, Id say a 6.5- 7.0. Only CGC is going to be able to make an estimate of the ding you'll get for the extra color. It certainly is all over it and is a distraction. I had an ASM 121 that had a miniscule drop of print ink on the back and it was a very clean dot. about 18th inch across. They dinged it from another I had as a 9.2 down to an 8.5. They were identical books but for the drop.
  7. Read everything you can/.Pay attention to the "Kudos" board. Look at lots of dealer sites and look at pricing. LEARN TO GRADE. Subscribe to GPA. From the time I decided to sell the AF 15 to when I chose a way it would happen took 9 months. I was paid six months later. It was very clean. It also depends on your definition of "Big". Everyone has their own unit value.
  8. when I sold my AF15 through Bob Storms, it involved six monthly payments.
  9. two tiny tears, some spine checks, Tiny abrasions on the top of the cover. Press it and I think you may well have an 8.0 . At worst, a 7.5
  10. I'm having trouble with the presentations between two of the photos. The first one doesn't show the same abrasion as does the other around the upper left hand quadrant. One makes it appear far worse than the other. I'm hovering at a 3.5 but it could get worse. There appears to be a stain on the back on the same corner as the abrasion but it's difficult to read. It extends down to the letter "S" in "Surfer". That suggests water damage all the way through the comic at the corner. The rippling on the cover at the spine suggests to me that it's close to coming off a good deal more. It has a color break running much of the cover length right near the spine. How's the interior? Water stains?
  11. It could still not make a 6.5. 8.0 is a seriously great condition comic. This doesn't measure up unfortunately. It does look a lot better.
  12. Clean and press and it's a 6.0 perhaps a 6.5. Very nice copy. It makes me wonder how many copies were destroyed by cutting out the marvel value stamp..
  13. 2.0 or lower, and it's the first time I've noticed that the skeg on the surfer's board is backwards.
