Ok, due to the "interest" in this thread, I went back and read the "I...Vampire" run. It's worth reading. It has a slight twist from most vampire stories. I would say the art throughout is less than impressive, even from Kubert. I found most of the covers to be interesting though. Most didn't seem to relate to something that actually happened in that issue. Some would be close, or similar, but some wouldn't have anything to do with the story. It was almost like the artist had free reign to do whatever they wanted involving Bennett, but the cover still wasn't very good.

Anyway, here's the important stuff. What are a vampire's powers and weaknesses in the DC universe as best as I can recall.

    Superhuman strength: Yes

    Change to:

    Mist: Yes

    Bat: Yes

    Wolf: Yes

    Rat: Yes

    Other animals: Likely

Death when exposed to sunlight: Yes

Pain or death when exposed to UV weapons: Yes

Death by wooden stake through heart: Yes, but sometimes not immediate and can be fully healed if the stake is removed quickly enough. Without giving too much away, this was slightly ambiguous.

    Death from decapitation: Unknown

Death from drowning: I will call this Unknown. However, it is clear that vampires can stay underwater for extended periods of time without harm

    Crossing running water: Unknown

Mind control and power of suggestion over humans: Yes

Pain from exposure to a cross: Yes ( I don't think the Star of David and other symbols were covered)

Turn humans to vampires from bite: Yes, after 3 days typically.

Prefer to sleep in coffin: Yes (Although the vampire's native earth is not addressed to my recollection)

    Sexy Time: Yes!

    Procreation: Unknown

Shows up in pictures or film: No

Reflection in mirror: I don't remember this being addressed.

Silver Bullets: Extremely painful and likely fatal if a vital organ is struck

    Regular Bullets:  No harm

Will drink alcohol: Yes (That's not something that is typically addressed in vampire stories, but if you want to have a drink with one in the DC Universe, you might be able to.)

Growing Weakness Without drinking or ingesting Blood: Yes (Blood transfusions are also possible. Yes, this was shown.)

    Death without Blood: Probably

Older vampires being stronger than younger vampires and males being stronger than females: I don't think this was really covered. Turing a human did seem to give that vampire some control/dominanace over the turned vampire though.

So, that's how I see Andrew Bennett and the I...Vampire run. If you recall any of my info being incorrect or can add something that was addressed in the story, please chime in! You can buy a full color trade on Amazon for close to $10. I did enjoy the story and will say it is worth the read.

Thank you for the recommendation, electricprune.  I...Vampire sounds like a very interesting series.  I particularly like the way that you presented it.  It reminds me of something that I could have read in a Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook.

Send him a PM (Rich_Henn).  I'm sure he will give you his cell phone number.

At big shows, he usually has several other CGC witnesses with him as well so it's not that difficult.

Thank you for the information, delt569.

how do you coordinate to have rich meet you for a signature than?

That is a very good question.  Also, how much does Rich_Henn charge for his services, and will he have a booth set up at Star Wars Celebration?

Rich_Henn is a CGC facilitator attending this

Thank you for the reply, delt569.  I was hoping that CGC would have a booth set up there.  I will probably just settle for holograms and Qualified Labels as a result of their absence.

Sorry to hear about Bernie.  Since I had an interest in horror movies, he was one of the creators that got me hooked when I first started collecting back issues.  He could truly capture the mood.  Was lucky enough to meet him once at a con a few years ago and got a few items signed (I almost never get autographs).

Very nice, PreHero.  I am sorry to say that I never had the pleasure of meeting him.

    500,000 additional?

I think i remember reading about this a looong time ago.  i guess it's actually happening.

maybe they'll stick artists alley and actual comics in the separate space...

I was just thinking the same thing about Artist Alley, the blob.  You beat me to it.

I realize that it was posted back in 2005, but that Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea is absolutely gorgeous.

  8. CGC will remove the comic books from their holders for $10 each.  You can then have Stan Lee sign the comic books.  After the comic books are signed, CGC will reholder them with a Signature Series Label, but you will not be guaranteed the same grades.  You should also be able to pay an additional $5 for a Stan Lee Signature Series Label.  It is not a difficult process.  I have done it numerous times.  Good luck, BigxHurt.

After seeing the announcement from NYCC...

I don't know if anyone of us are 'allowed' back at NYCC.

There will be no 3 and 4 day passes this year.   I usually go for sketches these days.  So if the artist is not ready with my sketch by the end of the day he says he will have it, I have to purchase a second ticket ? Whaaaaaa?

I am wondering how this will impact pro passes and press passes.  I have been fortunate to get my pass through that avenue.

I was actually happy to hear this.  It should result in more tickets being available.  I typically only attend for two days.

  10. One of these days, I will spend some time posting images of my collection.  I am still trying to figure out how to post images in the Gallery.  I am not tech-savvy.  I would like to retrieve the images from my cell phone.  Any advice on this matter would be very much appreciated.

Not a signature technically but a yellow label. My Son's hand, fist and foot prints as well as me and my wife's thumb print. My favorite book in my collection!

That is a great idea, jdennis3.  I wish that I had thought of it back in 2001.  Very cool.
