Took a trip across the island. I went from place to place looking at Vintage gumball machines and signage but nothing wow'ed me. I wanted to find something I could not find on eBay or most of the rest of you could find. Then I saw something that caught my eye. I picked up two pieces. I checked them out to make sure... but these are two pieces of original art from a residential Long Islander, Bourke Sweeney, who drew cartoons while on active duty in the Pacific. These cartoon would appear in military publications during WWII. The top corners of the backs are affixed to cardboard right now but when you turn the page over it has the military approval stamps and signatures and additional information.

The first cartoon caption reads: "Do you think it'll rain?"

The second cartoon caption reads: "He's been hanging around ever since we camouflaged that gun."

Very nice.  Congratulations on two fantastic finds, Buzzetta.

  2. I own a piece of original comic art.  It is a pencil and ink drawing that I commissioned Neal Adams to draw for me at New York Comic Con back in October.  I am obsessing over whether or not I should have him color it for me as well.  I am currently leaning away from having it colored.  Please advise.  Thank you in advance for any replies.

    GRAIL PIECE

I was going to start my 1st "art day" thread, but I've decided to save that for another piece that I'm paying off.

Or just filling a niche demand.  I can't get the continued need to bash CBCS here.  It's as if people feel they can't be justified in liking CGC and CGC's product, unless they put down everything about CBCS.  Don't forget, market pressure from CBCS, on CGC, has resulted in many positive things.

I agree, Transplant.  I will take my chances with CGC, regardless of whatever issues they may be dealing with at the time.

  5. Newton's rings do not damage the comic book.  As a matter of fact, nothing about the original new holder appears to damage the comic book.  I would be happy to purchase a comic book in an original new holder at a reduced price, and spend $15 to have it reholdered.  I advise sellers to either have their comic books reholdered at CGC's expense, or to simply hold their ground with buyers.  Best of luck, Mijael.Levy.

  6. I had a lot of comic books reholdered, Paddy_McShillihan.  As a matter of fact, I have had several comic books reholdered since this terrible incident.  If you prefer the new holder, I will be the first collector to advise you to have your comic books reholdered.  It is definitely worth it.  Mistakes happen.  Best of luck.
