  1. That is certainly not a bad grade for a top-right torn corner. Very frustrating.
  2. Very cool. Congratulations on a great collection of new acquisitions!
  3. Swamp Thing has been my favorite comic since I was five years old. That was when I picked up my copy of Swamp Thing #13. I often wonder what it would have been like to experience the character being illustrated by Neal Adams. The Phantom Stranger #14 only leaves us guessing, with that incredible cover art.
  4. Everything went well today. Much better than last year. Terrificon is a fantastic comic convention.
  5. Bags and boards should be replaced every ten years. Encapsulation should not require that. I do not intend to have my graded comics reholdered.
  6. I have decided not to include the signatures of the artists and writers to the comic. It simply does not make sense. I plan to add Derek Mears on Saturday, and Adrienne Barbeau in October. Thanks again for the replies.
  7. I will be there as well. I need to get a few autographs.
  8. How does CGC distinguish between a bindery issue and a tear? This is new to me.
  9. Capra, are you saying that it looks like a 9.4 even if that bottom-right corner of the cover is torn? If so, that will make me feel much better about my Swamp Thing #1.
  10. Absolutely! She cancelled at New England Super Megafest two years ago, and I am anxiously awaiting another opportunity. Thanks, Telerites.
  11. I totally understand, Sean. Bernie Wrightson is my favorite comic artist of all time. This would be more of a passion project, as well as a way to enhance a very special gift. Like I said, I am an autograph collector as well as a comic collector. I will certainly explain my intentions to the artists and writers if I decide to add their signatures as well.
  12. I was given a copy of Swamp Thing #1 as a gift. It appears to be in VG/FN condition. I also own a copy with a grade of 9.4. Since I am also an autograph collector, I thought that it would be interesting to add as many Swamp Thing actors to the comic as possible. I will begin with Derek Mears at Terrificon on Saturday. Would it be too strange to also add some of the artists and writers as well? I would obviously not be able to add Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, any more than I would be able to add Durock. I could, however, add Jason Fabok, Kelley Jones, Tom King, Yanick Paquette, Scott Snyder and Charles Soule in the near future. Would this be too strange? My concern is that some may decline out of respect for Len and Bernie. Thank you in advance for any replies.
  13. This is interesting. So if it is a bindery issue or a manufacturing defect, CGC will not treat it the same as a tear that is the result of handling? That actually makes sense. I have a Swamp Thing #1 that has a similar issue on the top-right corner. It also has a grade of 9.4. Perhaps CGC treated it the same way. I had it reholdered, and it was returned to me with the same grade. Thanks for the replies.
  14. Has anyone ever seen a comic book with a grade of 9.4 with a torn corner? I recently saw one being offered for sale, and I am wondering what the grade would have otherwise been. The size of the tear appears to be 1/8 inch. It is not a bindery tear. It is on the bottom-right corner of the cover. Thank you in advance for any replies.
  15. I recently received a CGC Signature Series label on a signed comic book that was signed under the direct observation of a CGC representative. The cover also exhibits a signature not observed by a CGC representative. The comic book received a grade of 6.0. Grader Notes describe "light finger bends front cover", "multiple stain back cover" and "spine stress lines breaks color." Should I have received a Signature Series Qualified label, or was the grade so low that it did not matter? Thank you in advance for any replies.
  16. There were two witnesses assigned to Terrificon on Saturday morning. Most of my time was spent waiting for service on the CGC line. I am certain that I was not the only collector who was disappointed based on my multiple conversations with other collectors there. CGC needs to analyze the cost-benefit of flying additional witnesses to these events with the business that they are losing to collectors who simply refuse to wait on their lines.
