  1. @Ricksneatstuff Didn't want to clog up the new this week thread, so... In regards to your new #50, that copy looks great! What do you think it would have come back as sans the 'poor' PQ? Furthermore, how do you really feel about tan or slightly brittle? Especially if the copy in question looks way better than the grade? I recently purchased a book, I will post when it arrives, that I had the same conundrum with. Slightly brittle PQ, but a very nice presenting book. I went for it. Do you feel like the slab sort of protects the book from itself, meaning the pages are less likely to be affected when encapsulated?
  2. Yes, I watch it with the wife. I get a little upset sometimes on how they twist the characters, but it's good television!
  3. Youl'' find that there are certain issues, odd issues you wouldn't expect, in Archie world that will elude you forever and ever. Case and point: Have been looking for a long time for one that tops this. I've seen some that have been close, but dull in colour.
  4. Very nice books. I'm a sucker for the Christmas Stocking issues. Tough to find the early ones in decent shape. That B&V 40 is great. I know most people think the opposite, but personally I'm not a big 40 fan, I like the 41 better. I see what you mean about the annual, I am going to have to pull my B&V box now and see what I have in there! I'm a Ronnie fan.... One thing I've also always loved about the Archie titles which ties in with GGA art, is the girls that always appear in the background. It isn't always just B&V!!
  5. The only thing missing is Jug beneath the tree ramming burgers down his throat
  6. You're correct. But, if one doesn't use/know of GPA or even eBay sold function, yet has a copy of OSP...prices can be just as out of whack, in either direction.
  7. Well, if you boil it down to the basics, this is exactly true. They saved the money they earned/were given and it made/kept them rich. Interest used to be a trivial thing in my mind, but as I got older it really made sense to me how simple it is. Pay off debt asap, bad interest, so that the bank can pay you good interest. My old man always told me two things finically that have really stuck with me. the first was "a penny saved is a penny earned," and the second was write a hit song so you can sit on your rear all and walk to the mail box once a month to get your royalty check. I see interest like the royalty check, you're sitting on your rear getting paid for essentially nothing. They are giving you money because you have money...dreamy. Unfortunately, I never wrote that hit.
  8. This is very true. The richest people I have known would be hard to peg as such and the most indebted people that I have known looked the richest, for a while. Beverly Hill Billies got it right !
  9. Nice copy!! I was always curious about Ronnie's 'SinBad' belt??? A lot of the Archie spin off series from the time period have great art and a re very under appreciated. Jughead, the title, has great covers and art and they are, in my opinion, just as undervalued.
  10. I feel like they could have left it at that plus the chip haha, I think, in this case, they're not trying to justify the grade being what it is, but telling you why it isn't higher. I know that is exactly what grading is, but I feel that sometimes the way the notes are written tell a little story.
  11. At least with the joint sales thread format you can blame it on Mark, no?
  12. I was sure about the trim. Where do you suspect the piece was attached?
  13. I agree with this statement. I would be worried about that. It's not the tiny piece that annoys me, but the fear of damage that would drive me. On that note, imagine what that baby would be without the chip!!!
  14. Let it be! That copy borders on sexual though, very, very nice!!
  15. Ooooffffff, ....you beat me, bad, on this one. My favourite cover Congrats on a real toughie.
  16. I know you're a pretty heavy hitter in the Archie collecting sphere and I certainly respect your opinion on the matter. It is much easier to find a 5.0 #65 at a reasonable price than it is to find a 5.0 #5 at any price. I personally wouldn't slab anything past issue #50, non keys that is, in anything under 5.0, but I said that as my personal opinion only. I also admitted that I own slabbed copies in grades under 5.0 in later issues, but I didn't have them slabbed. I think it could also be the way in which I collect. Both slabs and raws neither taking precedence. Just my Show your collection PLEASE Thot I wanna see all those beauties!!! This brings me to my next point. I think, again this is personal opinion, that Archie collectors are hesitant to slab because the books, to a certain extant, are just as important on the inside as the cover is. Obviously there are exceptions to that statement, but generally I prefer my Archies raw. I tend to want to slab when I find an exceptional looking copy that I wish to preserve. In those cases, I try to procure a companion reader copy. All this to say that it is my belief that the census is not a good 'mile marker' when it comes to Archie.
  17. Could be mistaken, but I believe it is still Bill at this point.
  18. I think the tanning would sink that possibility. But if you do find one in 5.0 or greater, then you're in slabbing territory. I'm not saying that I don't own tons of Archie 'rags,' but not this late in the run. Around issues 60-100 is where they start to become a little more common in 'acceptable' grades. Great start to an Archie 1-100 run though ....
  19. It is my personal opinion that this book should not be slabbed. It would be very easy to find a nicer copy worth slabbing that won't break the ol' bank. Great reader though!
