  1. As someone who grew up using the Overstreet definition I totally agree. I don't know why warehouse finds were not labeled warehouse find. Would have reduced the confusion I felt when confronted with hundred, if not thousands, of file copies once the Internet took off. I knew they could not all be file copies but here we are.
  2. Don't suppose you have a nice #6 you'd share with the class, do you?
  3. Sometimes eBay comes through. I was afraid it was restored but I've checked it with a black light and nothing stands out.
  4. I have little to no desire to travel outside the country. Going someplace where I do not speak the language, the Coke comes without ice, and the food is stuff I wouldn't pay for at home; well, no, just...no. Still I do intend to go to the Galapagos Islands, and hopefully Africa, but that is because of the animals and not the people or food. I have traveled extensively related to my work and studies, most recently India, but I would never go outside the country for any other reason.
  5. Then you are not doing it right. My wife took me to San Diego Comic Con and gave me a choice between an Amazing Fantasy 15 or an All Select #1. That is a memory that I cherish every time I look at my wife or the comic.
  6. My wife is amazing. Her only concern is the plan on paying for purchases. If that is solid, then she does not care how much I spend. She also gets attached to certain books and pitches a fit if I announce I am going to sell. She still has not forgiven me for selling my Captain America Comics while I was unemployed for 6 months last year. While I regret the necessity of doing so, I do not regret doing so. I also want those books back but their cost is just too prohibitive relative to other books that would make me just as happy. I also cannot sell anything now without her approval.
  7. Wow, man I wish I had the money for this!
  8. I agree with both of you! If I had to give the edge though, I'd give it to Christmas on Bear Mountain. It introduced Scrooge and set his character up forever. Plus, bears!
  9. I went to Torpedo comics, in Las Vegas, a few weeks ago and there was a 10 to 13 yo girl whose parents were telling her, "The comics you want are not that expensive. Just buy them both so we can go!" I did not get to see what the girl was buying, "No, honest officer, I wasn't stalking the girl but her comics!", but I do still wonder.
  10. Exactly. I have a restored book, although I think if I sent it in for a reholder it would be called "conserved" now, and a green label qualified book in my collection because I either could not afford a copy as nice or just could not find another copy, period. Then there's page quality. I went from White only, to well, ok off white to white, to cream to white, to, gasp!, all the way down to slightly brittle. I have 2 books in my collection with slightly brittle notations: a USA Comics #8 and an Archie #23. I read and reread the Archie #23 so I'm not even sure where the brittleness is. It was not apparent to me. I've never had the USA #8 out of its case but I'm told by its previous owner that it was perfectly readable. As has been said, sometimes with GA you must turn a blind eye. Still, rust is definitely a turn off for me but, depending on the book, it would come down to price. Would anyone here turn down a complete Bat #1, in any readable condition, with rusty staples for $10,000? If money wasn't the problem, then of course not. Its all relative to your comfort level. Buy what makes you happy. If you are going to fret and sweat about it, then walk away. Otherwise, enjoy the rarity and keep your eyes open for a nicer, affordable, copy.
  11. "The Many Faces of Magica DeSpell" made me laugh out loud when I read a reprint in the late 70s. That fond memory is why I collect Scrooge books to this day. Its in my top 10.
  12. Bought a great book at a great price! Thanks!
  13. Yeah, I'm hooked. Timely is just getting so darn expensive I'm trying to snag other books I like while the prices are relatively low.
  14. Picked this up last week. No graded copies.
  15. You can jump around on the Barks stuff especially the Walt Disney Comics and stories gems. Rosa is best read in order especially the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. I would read Barks before Rosa to get the full flavor of Rosa's detail but it is not required.
