there is a reason marvel 1 has lagged behind action 1 and tec 27 the past 20+ years and why the value differences continue to distance

So Marvel.com just said Marvel Comics 1 started it all... Celebrates it... and its not important? Cmon. Marvel is undervalued and its starting to climb  back where it belongs.

    Ok. Rick 915k and counting!

What about TEC 33 not getting back up there or Showcase 4. Those lagged and then came back.

I still think its no 3. Never said no1 or 2

Supes 1 is great but sheesh... Its a reprint book.  Cap 1 is great now but Chris Evans and mcu is gone. Much like tos 39 and Robert Downey JR.

Marvel comics the 3rd Comic to reach 1 million in auction.

Wait till Subby comes to to The MCU!

There was a time when that book was running neck and neck with action one and detective 27. I wonder if the only reason that stopped happening was because no high-grade specimens have come to auction for a long time? If true this book might surprise people.

Correct. A high grade hasnt been offered since the 2010 first million dollar sale explosion. Marvel 1 was even at the Top of the Overstreet guide in the 80s. Also neck and neck as you said  in the 90s

I think clearly it should beat AS8.... I would take the Marvel 1 over it. Marvel 1 is a great book, I own the reprint volume. that marvel did many years ago and an amazing cover. The issue is which would I take Marvel 1 vs Cap 1 SF copy....well I think 20 years from now the Cap#1  will surpass the Marvel #1...for years it was age discrimination in that its 1939 vs a 1941 book in the GA and surely Cap #1 has come a long way but in the earlier days of collecting that made a Difference..to a number of early GA collectors. Of course the Marvel movies has placed Cap above the SM/HT but also the fact of Motion pictures funnies #1, which was their first published appearance might give a slight edge on the very First appearance of Cap. I think both books are classic, and Cap one is a especially great read......Marvel might crack the 1 Mil level first...but I predict that Cap will get to 2 mil first. I might be in the minority but I rank the top 7 Ga books as Action 1, Det 27, Cap#1, Superman1, Batman 1, Whiz#2( very underpriced), and Marvel #1.

I  Think Marvel Comics 1  is the birth of the Marvel Universe. To me it ranks 3rd. Cap 1 is great.... But the movies brought him there. Now that Evans is out. I dont see him having as much growth as Submariner with his long awaited MCU debut. The first Mutant.

Also scarcity factor. Only 30 unrestored Marvel 1    and 33 unrestored   for a total 63

    Cap 1   83 unrestored  and  for a

    total of 170

Also many  many more ungraded Cap 1 in the wild than Marvel 1.

    1939 to 1941.... Is not 1989 to 1991

No one cared or collected Timely before Marvel 1. So more people held on to Cap 1 than Marvel. 2 years of growing fan base.

Marvel Comics 1 even held the no1 spot over action 1 and tec 27 in the 80s and was a solid 3rd for most of the 90s

It was about 10 years or so ago, I purchased the 1st wrap of Action #1 for $3200 Many thought I  was crazy.  In 2013 I sold it for 5 figures.

The auction buyer in this ebay listing stated the first page sold for 25.5K last year, and was brittle.  If I had 100K I would be in the market for a coverless, complete copy of Action #1

You had great foresight on buying that first wrap. Pays to have a bit of vision.

100k is wear the bottom price should be at for a complete coverless. Even though im offering 80k lol

  6. Well last year in a live auction Page 1 of action  1 sold for 25.5k

If anyone has a page 1 ill buy it at 20k anytime. Just pm me.

I dont think im the only one. Also the real pay off is to be ahead of the curve not a late come to the slab page market.

How many superman action pages exist in for each page?? 3-5 maybe? the restare coverless or complet so a slab pg od action 1 or tec 27 is rate and doesnt take many buyers to push it up.

Also imagine demand if it picks up in this age that  is all about the slab?

Million dollar books featuring characters the general public cares about. I'm hoping to be surprised and get another 7 figure book (and to finally add a new title to that list- returning MC#1 at least temporarily, to top 3 GA status), but for the last 20 years I've only ever been surprised on the downside by MC #1. Fingers crossed and popcorn out though. I wanted the Cap to hit 7 figures, I'll be just as excited if this one does it.

Well... Captain america and Iron man( Silver age were no heavy hitters. More Fun 73 exploded since Aquaman.

Marvel Comics has been a top book and its due for its time to shine again. Especially being the book that started it all. Also Sub-Mariner Namor MCU entrance.

Its scarcity is huge also. 28 unrestored copies.

Last 6.0 was 215k was 2017 compared to the 9.0 pay copy 227k in 2010... Richard had to sell his book to to the natural disaster Texas(Bedrock)

Even a 1.0 sold at auction for 52k last year.

Great work on that list Rob.

Im just a bystander and will be watching with popcorn also. Would be great to see this book hit 1 million.

To be fair, quite a number of those sales took place in a period when relatively high grade copies of MC 1 seemed to be popping up every auction, and often it was the same copies.  This really tainted everyone's perception of the book at the time.  The feeling was that MC 1s were like buses--if you didn't get an MC 1 at this auction, just wait because another one would be coming along.

During that same period, very few Action 1s and Detective 27s or higher grade Bat 1s and Cap 1s were coming to market, which further enhanced the perception that MC 1 was common as dirt.

Now, it's been a while since a higher grade MC 1 has come up for auction.  So it will be fascinating to see what it goes for in today's supercharged market, particularly because of the unprecedented grade, which is tempered by the knowledge among those who will have done their due diligence that it's just one of those copies that was being constantly recycled back in the 'naughts.

Ditto. Also all sales are before 2010 and under. Before the price explosion million dollar books.

Curious what board members view of the top 3 pages of action 1 are.  Price wise page 1 and pg 5(car lift) are number 1 and 2.  Which one is #3?

    Paging Wayne-Tec and Zen514....

I would place AC page 1 and page 5  ( cover swipe)

1 and 2 but its basically a  coin flip slight advantage to 1 in my opinion. First page that started it all. Has the origin and ta full page of supes in action. The a more distant  Tec27 page 1.

If they were all in cream to off white pages and no big chunks missing like the Tec 27 page 1.

action 1 page 1   35k  ( the page 1 was brittle ans sold for 25.5k in auction)

    Action 1 page 5   30k-35k(cover swipe)

sold 3 years ago when at 16k ( buy it now) when pages and coverless were selling for far less than today.

    Tec 27   page 1  20-25k

any other AC1 or Tec27  are 15k range

I would say more  for the last pages page 7 for supes and page 3 for bats

I thought the condition of page 1 was sufficient to tie the Action 1 Page 1 record ( yes the greatest single page in all of comicdom ).  I thought people wud liquidate if need be to get one of these pages as who knows when another opportunity would arise.

I think the tec27 page 1 is a 20-25k page  and the ac1 pg 1 35k. like i said no bagman in action just bruce wayne and no origin. Also published  over a year later thanks Action 1

Hindsight Turtle  but I would think so - certainly within 30 days.  I thought  at least 2 of the pages wud have fetched that and one hitting 20k.  I was shocked.

First page in Better condition could jave hit 25k. Still placing Action 1 page 1 at 35k+++ first page of forst suoer hero book. has the origin and superman in costume in action on reverse. Tec27 ( 1 year after ac1 and because of its success)page 1 had Bruce Wayne.

Someone got that book for a good price there.  I was on the fence about putting a bid in, but for some reason I'm not sure why but I just cooled on it and couldn't pull the trigger.  I have a blue label .5 and this would have been a significant upgrade as my copy is a total beater with brittle pages.  We'll eventually get our Flash movie and someone will put on the suit even if it's not Ezra Miller and the book will have it's day.  I like this book way more than Supe 1 but to each their own.

Not really looking into bigger books for this auction. Nice looking 2.5. Easily a fmv  of 65k +++

Action 1 page 3 white pages closed at $ 9,600.  Fine price. Wonder where the tec 27 bat Pages end up tomm ??

I though with white pages compared to all the brittle ones that sold years ago it would have been 15k. I think A white pager  instead of brittle would sell for 30-35k: Car lift page and first page.  Since the first page that was brittle sold in auction for 25k and the caf lift was like 3 years ago at 16k buy it now.

The  Superman 1 in this auction that ends tonite should sell 22k-30k a brittle page just sold a ha.com  for 14.8k in march and 22k in 2018 cream to off white.

Batman vs  Superman coverles and single pages at its best!!!

    action 1.....200-250K

    tec 27...150-200k

    superman 1...75-100K

    batman 1...50K

    action 7...35K

    marvel 1...30K

    whiz 2 (1)...30k

    tec 31...30k

    captain America 1...25K

    all American 16...25K

    flash 1...20K

but too many variables to say for sure, this is just a guess based on 3.0's...entry level don't always correlate

Well.  Marvel Comics 1 cgc 1.0 sold for 53k at Heritage.  I would put it in at 50k-60k

Flash comics 1  0.5 restored mod ext missing back cover for 8.8k in recent comicconnect. A low eye appeal unrestored cgc 0.5 for 15k at Hakes

    so 25k-30k for 1.0
