  1. Monte Hale Western was a Fawcett title; I don't see that one on the list.
  2. It would be a thrill to be able to see his collection in real life, wouldn't it?
  3. Shadow on the floor to shadow on the floor and wall.
  4. It's a cool book, but that price is shocking. I feel like I'm flying blind in every auction; I don't know how much anything will sell for.
  5. Pat, are you responsible for the graffiti on that cover? Lance Lewis, Space Detective, to Rod Hathway, Space Detective.
  6. But the auction doesn't just take place in Texas; it's worldwide due to the internet component. Maybe a live shill bidder can't be prosecuted, but anyone who puts in a shill bid electronically (i.e., online) can, as I understand it, be prosecuted under federal wire fraud laws. One guy got serious prison time for shill bidding on a (six-figure) baseball card.
  7. Everett graveyard cover to Everett graveyard cover.
  8. Blonde in a red dress to redhead in a yellow dress.
  9. At least the book was complete with no restoration and with decent pages. That's about all you can hope for when buying a GA book raw.
  10. Question: Would glue and/or a "very minor amount of color touch" be tolerated on blue-label books if not for the fact that so many of the Church books have amateur glue and color touch? Answer: Not in a million years. If CGC starts allowing the amount of work that's been done to the Horrific on universal-label books, it'll be time to go back to buying raw. The CPR garbage has already gotten me to the point where I don't care about grade any more. Too many of the high grades have been manufactured.
  11. I know an LCS owner who told me he'd resubmitted a PLOD "cleaned and pressed" book before and had it come back with a universal label. Clearly, CGC sometimes (often?) misses aqueous cleaning during their restoration check. They used to have three graders grade each book, and now only two do so, right? Fewer eyes = more mistakes.
