Think back to when pressing and other forms of what were then thought of as restoration were first outed on the boards here back in 2005.....................as long as you can show your customers that there's a potential magical pot of gold at the end of the CGC rainbow, they'll come running in droves.

The resubmission thing has been going on since before 2005. Even back in 2001 I knew guys who were sending the same books in repeatedly until they got a gift grade. I also knew a guy who cracked out a PLOD book with something minor and resubmitted it until in came back with a Universal label.

Would guess it’s owned by metro/CC because who would consign a book like that to them with the sorry state they’re in right now?

Is that a reference to Rob's departure and the eleventh-hour-scan fiasco? Neither seemed to hurt the prices realized on the Jon Berk and Phil Cole books that were just sold. They have a large enough customer base that there aren't going to be any deals on anything. There are too many eyes on their auctions, just like there are too many eyes on HA's auctions for anything good to fly under the radar.

I sold some comics to Bob in the 70's, one of which I regretted since it was one of the first GA books I had bought in the early 60's that I had done a small repair to. Years later in the late 80's I was at a comic book store in Eureka California and there it was, the exact same book hanging on the wall. I had to have it back and bought it right then and there. One of my few keepers. Funny how those things work out.

What's the book? I'm sure we'd all love to see it!

A stupid move that would anger all the collectors who’ve spent fortunes amassing large collections of 9.8 runs.  Whatever money they might generate making such an opaque money grab they’d lose in the long run I think.  I think it would be a catastrophically bad decision that would drive a lot of people, and a lot of money, out of the hobby

Theres way more money invested in 9.8s than 9.9s right now, magnitudes more. Can’t see how it pays off to give the middle finger to all the 9.8 owners as you drive down the value of those books by artificial creation of more 9.9s.

I don't think that corporate raiders like the group that bought CGC think that long term. They want to make a quick buck so that the annual profits look good, then they'll sell and let the hapless buyer deal with the fallout.

Back around 2013 or 2014, the camp Whiz 55 was on eBay for months (or maybe years), and no one would pull the trigger on it. I can't remember what the asking price was, but it would probably look like a bargain now. (I thought about buying it, but the cover is one of the goofier ones.)

Hey, Oh yeah I totally understand that's where szav is coming from. Everyone understands.. And it probably will hit around 200k. Who knows really.  All depends on two things I guess, personal wealth and vanity. Like that guy who has an amp that goes up to 11. It's very special. :headbang:

Yes. Chances are no one else cares, but guys like that are always convinced that others envy them. If you understand the concept of narcissistic supply, then you understand the single-highest-graded copy chasers.

Are you joking? I mean that sincerly. 9.8's are selling for between 22 and 30k. It'll probably top 100k but I'd be real surprised if it topped 200.

You have to understand that there are some collectors out there who will pay almost any amount for the bragging rights to owning the only (for now) 9.9 copy of a key issue (even if there are a few dozen 9.8s that look nicer—and there probably are). I will not be surprised if it hits $200K.

The IH 181 cgc 9.9 went for 150k at a time when 9.8s were going for less than 10k.  I can’t see this going for less than 500.  Not in this day and age.

Not saying it’s worth that to me, but I’d be floored to see it go for less than 200.

So you think it will hit $200K or $500K?

Both of these books look like 3.0/3.5's to me, FWIW. But if you regularly buy from MCS, you know they purposely under grade to keep eBay complaints and/or returns to a minimum.

I've bought several raw books from them. A couple were tightly graded, but the others appeared to be graded about right. It might depend on which person is grading them.

But, I doubt most of you high grade folks would be interested…

It looks like he's holding a Grand Slam Three Aces #44.

I see Bomber #3 back there, too! (I'm sure some of you guys know all of the visible issues on sight.)
