  1. I was the underbidder on the Miller unused Dark Knight splash...put in about $20K in punishment bids 😃
  2. Thanks for the well wishes. Here's a few more pics of cool pages from this issue: Nice half splash with our favorite wall crawler in trouble And the Shocker makes a grand entrance, much to Spidey's dismay :(
  3. HI, all; I've consigned the complete 22 page interiors for Spiderman #83 to Heritage, featuring a great Double page splash, two double page spreads, lots of pages with Spidey in action (including a brief battle with The Shocker), and some with Mary Jane The auction ends on Thurs, Nov 21st, and the current bid is $3.6K, which is well below the most recent $14K - $20K sales for complete Spidey issues from this era (mid-1990s) so there's lots of opportunity here to pick up a complete issue without breaking your wallet. Here's a direct link to the auction on HA: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/john-romita-jr-and-scott-hanna-spider-man-83-complete-22-page-story-vertigo-original-art-marvel-1997-total-/a/7212-94190.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 and here's a few highlights from the issue:
  4. I think one of the things that makes Deadpool popular is his witty dialogue/potty mouth. After all you don't pick up the unofficial title of 'merc with a mouth' for nothing. And yes, its true that there's a lot of pages of Deadpool OA floating around, but a lot of it (the less valuable pages) are without word balloons and I think that makes a lot of difference to the value of a page because let's face it, a mute Deadpool ain't so funny, right?
  5. This. I want to repatriate it back to Canada and I promise to give it a good home, and protect it from the cold Canadian winters.
  6. Same with me...5 lots, all of which are about around 30% of fair market value, with the most undervalued currently being the Spiderman #83 complete 22 page interiors. This issue has a great double page splash of Spidey, and two double page spreads, lots of pages with Spidey in action, and great Mary Jane pages, not to mention a brief appearance/battle with the loveable Shocker. Basically, just about anything one could want in a complete issue (OK, no Aunt May, but still...) and bidding is at $3.1K, which is $141 per page.
  7. This! I bought it for the free tattooz, but returned for the great storyline and wonderful art, and really, you can't have the 238 without the 239

  17. Everyone knows the answer to this question 1 mediocre Sal Buscema cover > 5 sequential interiors by Kirby or Ditko or Bolland or Romita Sr or Steranko or , well, anyone!
  18. OK, my hat's off to you, Richard. I checked values of the two books in all of the Overstreet volumes I own and here's the results...1st number is the year, second is the value for Batman 227, and the third number is the value for Batman 251: 1981, 80 cents, $3.75 1986, 80 cents, $3.60 1991, 8, 30 (big bump due to Batman movie) 1998, 14, 45 2000, 20, 55 2005, 55, 95 2008, 85, 120 2011, 250, 175 2014, 600, 250 2015, 700, 500 2016, 750, 600 2017, 900, 900 2018, 950, 925 2019, 975, 975 (looks as though they're running out of steam...)
  19. Having attended University in Texas in the mid-90’s, I’ve met Richard in person several times (heck, even sold him my high grade Avengers 4 and Hulk 6), and yes, he’s very knowledgeable, but that doesn’t mean that I should forego my own due diligence. And besides, it’ll be a fun little activity for me.
  20. Thanks, Richard: the books’ publication preceded my time, and I am aware of the 227 homage to tech 31, however, I don’t believe that 251 caught on value wise as much as 227. I’ll double check my Overstreet’s to confirm
  21. Here’s the funny thing about our opinions (and they are just that) on the perceived value of the Batman 251 cover in general. 1. GL 76 has been an iconic cover for decades. It comes with historical significance as the 1st Bronze Age DC book (for most collectors). And I’ll be the first to admit that I have no idea how much, if any, $ value its historical significance added to the book 2. With regard to Iconic Batman covers by Adams, I think 227 has been/is still the most revered, at least over the past 10 years of comics collecting 3. Batman 251 covered has been also been singled out amongst the best Adams Batman covers, but more recently than the 227 cover 4. A’s much as I like the Joker, it was Adams’ 227 cover that brought Batman back to the Creature of the Night that we are all so fond of 5. Again, 251 has a teeny tiny Batman image and if Batman is the flagship title over Detective or B&B or World’s Finest, then I would want a larger image of Batman prominently displayed on the cover. a month from now we will see how this all shakes out, but until then, I will read into everyone ‘s opinions at face value (unless you know two or more BSD’s who are guaranteed to lock in at > $400K!)
  22. Interesting guesses and among the various rationale, I just don’t understand how the Batman 251 cover could possibly fetch more than the ASM 100 cover or the GL 76 cover. For the record, I’ve got no skin in the game, and I just don’t understand the unbridled enthusiasm over a teeny, tiny image of Batman trapped on a playing card? Joker is cool, but is that enough to push this cover above $480K with the juice? Unless folks know of a few BSDs going after this and willing to pay STOOPID money, I simply can’t see this going for $480, juice included.
  23. After reading all of the posts in this thread, I can only state that I am very happy that I switched my collecting focus from commissions to published pages.
  24. My focus changed from collecting commissioned pieces to published pieces, and most likely, I sold the Vess piece to raise funds towards a Keown Hulk cover.
