  1. Correct, it was ballpoint pen, and has always been a rather sloppy signature
  2. The Daredevil Man Without Fear mini-series has always been a personal favorite of mine and its hard to believe its been nearly 25 years since it was first published, but this series has given DD fans so much. In addition to the wonderful Miller/Romita Jr/Williamson collaboration, the series expands Matt's origin, his days in college with Foggy, and his intense romance with Elektra, and also, his first act as a vigilante, as demonstrated here, from issue #2p4, whereby a young Matt Murdock seeks out and finds one of his father's killers and extracts a can of whoop @ss on him! This page is rendered in pencil and india ink on oversized 15x20 artboard, with an image area of 10.5x15, and is signed by Romita Jr. Here's the link to the Heritage Auction: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/john-romita-jr-and-al-williamson-daredevil-the-man-without-fear-2-page-4-original-art-marvel-1993-/a/7163-94687.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 And here's a scan of the page:

  4. George Perez Health Update and convention cancellations FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 12, 2017 George Perez Represented by : Spencer R. Beck The Artist’s Choice www.Theartistschoice.com Re : George Pérez Health Update & Convention Appearances Hello again. First of all I want to once again thank all the wonderful people who have sent me good wishes, positive thoughts and prayers regarding my recent heart attack. Although I feel much better now after the two operations, I have been warned by my cardiologist about the pitfalls of being too complacent or overconfident. I have been reminded that my heart has been injured and weakened and that it will take time and patience to fully heal. My doctors (and my understandably frightened wife) were especially and specifically adamant about my need to avoid flying and participating in the marathon sketching and signing sessions I have done for so many years. It’s just more than my body can take, at least for the next several months. I am being set up for some cardio-rehab sessions and have hooked up with a new endocrinologist to help manage my diabetes. I'm also still undergoing treatments for my eyes as well, so it is going to be a pretty extensive overhaul for me, with the hopes of coming out a much improved version of my current self. This harsh slap of reality is very stinging, but it is unavoidable. I'm a man of limitations right now and those limitations mean that I will now have to disappoint a lot of fans and cause major inconvenience to a lot of convention organizers who relied on me to help bolster attendance at their functions. I hate this, I really do. I feel so much better than when I had the attack, but I'm not as healed as I felt I was. My engine is damaged and needs time to be repaired. So, as should come as no surprise to anyone reading this now, I am forced, under doctor’s orders to cancel all conventions for at least the rest of the year. I've already contacted all the organizers, who were extremely kind and understanding, and they will be making announcements of their own once this update is made public. I have also had to cancel other more personal travels, like a vacation with my wife in New York (including seeing Glenn Close in SUNSET BOULEVARD) and a wedding of a young couple closer than family to me. To put it mildly, this sucks. But, it’s what needs to be done right now if I'm ever to return to the convention circuit again (albeit at a slower pace). One exception is an appearance at a charity event supporting the LOVE IS LOVE project to be held during MegaCon on Friday, May 26th between 6:30 & 7:30 (creators only) and 7:30 to 10 PM for paid attendees (limit of 150 tickets). I will only be signing & chatting only ( no sketches, sorry ), but it’s for a good cause and I hope I get to see a good number of fans there. I have had a good life, and still do, and this is just a bump in the road. With proper maintenance the ruts in the road will be smoothed out. But until then, there is work I must do, and with the support and love of my wife, family, friends and fans, I will see you all again real soon! Sincerely, George Pérez
  5. George Perez Health Update Hi, all: Please see below for the latest update on George's health, and please continue to send George your well wishes as he truly appreciates them. 6. Up next is the Tom Sutton Haunted Love #10 Cover Painting (Oil paint on 14x18 stretched canvas) published by Charlton Comics in 1975, towards the waning days of the Gothic Romance popularity. Tom started working for Warren Publishing in the late 1960's in Eerie, Vampirella and other titles before focusing his attention to Marvel, where he inked and/or penciled Warlock, Not Brand Echh, Werewolf by Night, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, and Planet of the Apes. Sometime during the Mid -70's, Tom moved to Connecticut and focused much of his energy towards Charlton titles such as Ghost Manor, Midnight Tales, Monster Hunters, The Many Ghosts of Doctor Graves, and a host of others, including Haunted Love. He then moved to DC and penciled numerous issues of House of Mystery and Star Trek. 7. The cover that was on Clink? I thought it was under $20K?
  8. Large Art for sale on HA (Garcia Lopez/Nowlan, Romita Jr/Williamson Hi, folks: Well, just about a week to go before the Heritage Live auction begins so I thought I'd highlight the Oversized artwork I've consigned to the auction and will continue to add to this thread as time permits. First up is this larger-than-twice-up page from Wednesday's Heroes (DC, 2009), featuring the Metal Men, penciled by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez and inked by Kevin Nowlan. The artists' individual work is wonderful, but together, they are even better. I had entertained the notion of putting this entire story together again, and had 4 pages at one time, but decided to bow out of the hunt, and this is my last page. Hopefully, it will go to a good home. Artwork is pencil and ink on bright white 19x26 Bristol board with an image area of 15" x 22.5". It is HUUUUGE and would look very impressive framed. Here's the link to the HA auction: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/jose-luis-garcia-lopez-and-kevin-nowlan-wednesday-comics-5-metal-men-page-original-art-dc-2009-/a/7163-94527.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 And here's the page:
  9. Ditko ASM 23 page has a reserve, although it should be met, based on comments others have made on this thread. Just noticed the Brunner Man-thing cover nearly doubled overnite ?
  10. I've two grails: one is a marvel cover, the other a DC. One is owned by Joe Le (and would be stoopid money), thereby making it unattainable to me. The other was owned by Romitaman and has disappeared into the ether about a decade ago. It was way out of my price range then, and I'm certain that fact holds true today. however, I do feel fortunate to have seen them, and I am just happy knowing they exist.
  11. Clink publishes catalogs? I had no idea, and I've been buying and selling with them for years and never received one.
  12. There are several spidey/Hulk newspaper supplement comics, including one from the Columbus Dispatch, another from Colorado and one or two more. Wish I had access to my copies now, but they are in storage
  13. One of the Spidey newspaper insert comics from the late 70s/1980. Possibly this one from the Dallas Herald?
  14. I've been going to this show on-and-off since 2001 and I've established quite the love-hate relationship with it. Over the years, I've seen the number of quality back issue dealers dwindle and artists' alley reduced to a shell of its former self. Sure, in terms of square footage, it may be the same (larger, possibly), but the quality of guests ain't what it used to be and this happens to be one of the years I've decided to pass on going. There's probably a lot more I can add, but this is just my opinion, and I'm sure others will have differing opinions.
  15. A Message from George Perez Hi, All; Spencer asked me to post this message directly on behalf of Mr. Perez. Wishing him a speedy recovery... FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 1, 2017 George Perez Represented by Spencer R. Beck The Artist’s Choice SpencerBck@aol.com www.Theartistschoice.com UPDATE FROM GEORGE PEREZ The following is a statement from George Perez regarding his health and hospitalization during the East Coast Comic Convention: I am so genuinely flattered, humbled, and grateful for all the emails, texts, phone calls and messages that I’ve received regarding my latest medical situation. To clarify the facts to everyone: Yes, I did have a heart attack. I was on a plane leaving from Los Angeles, CA, heading to Secaucus, NJ for a comic convention when I started to feel some discomfort in my chest. It was mild and sporadic at first, but became more intense after I checked into my hotel in New Jersey. I called the front desk and they called for an ambulance. I also phoned my longtime friend and art agent Spencer Beck, who contacted my wife Carol, who was visiting friends in England. He figured correctly that news of my affliction and possible speculations could fill the social networks, and didn’t want Carol to find out that way. At first it was speculated that I may have had blood clots that may have reached my heart or lungs, but a second EKG determined that I had indeed suffered a heart attack with some rather severe blockage in some of the vessels. As of this writing, I have already undergone one operation to place a stent to clear the blockage on the right side of my heart and am scheduled to have the left side taken care of today. So far, recovery has been going well and life should be relatively normal after that, although I may have to pull back on the non-stop sketching-marathons that people have come to expect from me at conventions. There may even be a few cancelations, depending on medical advice. I apologize in advance to those I may disappoint. With this new medical wrinkle added to my past issues regarding my eyesight, there are likely a good number of you feeling a bit sorry for me. Please, don’t be. I’ve had a great run and have been blessed not only with a great career, but also, thanks to all of you nice people buying video games, t-shirts, action figures, collected editions, and watching all those movies and TV shows, my royalty income allows me financial security for life. There are so many of my peers who do not have that luxury. Unfair, but true. So, if these bits of misfortune do need to happen to someone, let it be me. Granted, my output may be curtailed, but I will still be drawing, and loving it as much as ever. Thank you all for caring. See you in the funny papers. 17. I've finally had the time to review the listings fully for this auction and I'm tracking over 350 pieces. Of the pieces I'm tracking, I'd estimate that I'm very interested in a few dozen and will be bidding on them with the hope of winning at least 5 pieces. For Spidey fans, this auction has so many nice examples for collectors to consider with pages and/or covers by: Ditko Romita Sr Andru Pollard Romita Jr Leonardi Frenz McFarlane Bagley Plus, there's an X-Men splash featuring Spidey and a Kirby FF page with Spidey, too!
  18. This auction is just incredible and theres really so much breadth and depth here that it will suck money out of a lot of wallets. Honestly, I wouldn't worry for the HA consignors... I'd worry for the Clink consignors as their auction comes after HA has taken everyone's money.
  19. Depends on the artist and image to me. If the regular series artist is mediocre, then I'd prefer the variant by Finch or Hughes or fill in the blank
  20. I think Jim Shooter had a letter published in an early issue of ASM. Possibly issue #23, but my memory is t what it used to be ?
  21. Just catching up on my reading today and I enjoy your OA articles very much. Would like to add a few tidbits of information to share with your audience: 1. The Miller MTU 99 cover that sold on CC for $15.2K, which you indicate is a good deal. I can't say one way or another if it was a good deal, but I do know that is sold less than two years prior for $10.6K on ComicLink. Also, at some time between the ComicLink sale and the CC sale, somebody added a few new paste-up blurbs to the cover. Additionally, likes like another signature was added at the bottom centre of the OA, and I believe that's Denny O'Neil's signature. I've got a scan of the cover as it appeared on the ComicLink auction and hopefully, I was able to upload it correctly for comparison's sake. 2. The Stephen Yarish article was great and I thoroughly enjoy reading how collectors got their start in this hobby. As an unabashed Keown Hulk fan, I especially liked reading Stephen's note about how he happened to be in the right place at the right time to get the Hulk 390 splash (Hulk with bunny slippers). He knew going in that he was going to be outbid, yet he ended up winning the splash. At the time of the ebay auction for the splash, I was spending money like a drunken sailor on Keown Hulk art and could have easily won the splash, but Stephen and I had nice email exchange and I decided to back down from bidding on the piece. Stephen's been a great curator for the piece and I've really enjoyed seeing his Hulk collection grow over the years. Looking forward to your next article!
