Funny, I thought it went for a steal but maybe I am biased because I won the book:bigsmile:

In all seriousness, this was never going to go for 500 to 1K. A beat-up copy of this book sold on Heritage twenty-one years ago in 2001 for 1K. The CT and grade don't matter for a book like this with 15 copies on the census. It's all about eye appeal and jumping on any copy that comes to market. It's an infamous Baker cover, ultra-rare, and it's currently listed as #1 on the most valuable romance comics in Overstreet (granted that list is kinda whack). I expect the 5.0 in the Baker Auction to go for $$$$.

Congrats on the win!!  We will likely look back in a few years and say this was a bargain.  I have not seen many copies for sale over the years and I would expect the 5.0 in the coming auction to easily pass 10K and 20K or more is not unrealistic.  But I guess we will see soon enough!

TADS 9 would get my vote. My copy is a wreck that I purchased five years ago. Haven't seen another copy for sale since.

Diary Secrets nn is also very tough. Here's my 6.5 that I had pressed into a 6.0. Maybe I should have it pressed again to see if I can get it to 5.5. hm

I will have to double check but I believe my TADS 9 is around a 3.5.  I have seen a few copies for sale over the years but definitely very tough.

What a gorgeous copy!  I remember my amazement as I saw this undiscovered gem for the first time at the San Diego Comic Con around 2010. I had never seen a copy in the 90s and was thrilled to see a new Baker cover on a St. John giant. Even better, it was only going to cost me around $100.

Is that right? No one else has a higher grade copy? I actually have two copies--an 8.5 and a 3.5. The 3.5 was sold to me on the boards raw (not by you!) as an 8.0. I don't seem to have a scan of either copy. I shrewdly deduce that it seems you must have the 9.2. hm

Amazing that you have two copies and one in such high grade.  I also have a copy but likely around 4.0ish.

Too bad Kamen didn't specifically discuss covers with you. Perhaps Kamen and Baker collaborated in some way on the cover of PL17.

To my eyes, the covers of Fight 47 and All Top 13 (both attributed to Kamen), when compared to Phantom Lady 17, bear more Kamen hallmarks than Baker. The hair, the eyebrows, the staring eyes, and the mouths are all similar.

BUT THAT IS JUST MY OPINION. Everyone else is free to think whatever they like. I am not trying to change anyone's mind. I'm just stating what I see.

I definitely would agree that PL 17 has a very different look than the other Phantom Lady covers.  I actually feel like both 16 and 17 have more Kamen than Baker in the faces.  PL 13 and 14 remind me of some of Baker’s early work visible in the Crown covers.  PL 15 looks like the more standard Baker female.  Look at Seven Seas 3 - 6.  Hard to believe it was the same artist who did all the covers.   Seven Seas 3 is like PL 13.  SS 4 and 6 are classic Baker.  SS 5 is more like PL 17 with some heavy and stiff inking potentially ruining some of the classic Baker pencils.  Just my two cents.
