Thanks for the pics it looks suspicious , i will check it in hand i hope its a bad centering but worst case scenario he is a good seller so i will work something with him
For what it's worth, even if it is trimmed, the price seems fair in my opinion given its scarcity. It is also a pretty nice looking copy and a must have for any Baker completist!

$785 final on Ebay
boardies were in there bidding aggressively
meat on the bone at this price? 5 graded copies, highest is a 4.5
I have a low grade copy of this scarce Baker so I bid a few times as this would have been a bit of an upgrade. I don't know if it is a printing issue, but the right edge looked a little oddly cut to me or I would have bid a lot higher. I compared it to the copy image on MyComicShop and there definitely was a difference but could not tell if there was any trimming. Anyhow rare enough that I am not sure if a trimming makes much of a difference in value. Congrats to the buyer and seller!

Art of Glamour says Baker with Colletta inks. Man looks like interiors of Charlton and Atlas books from this period credited to Baker.
But hey, maybe they got it wrong

Man in the background looks like typical later Baker style so I would give it a very high probability of being Baker. The man and woman in the foreground look like Colletta much more than Baker but perhaps very heavy inks by Colletta over some Baker pencils?

There it was sitting on the shelf...ASM 2. Freaking #2!
It looked nice for it's age. An easy 6-6.5 or maybe a 7. Guys I have absolutely no idea what I was thinking...I wowed over it and the guy at the shop said "Yea we just got it in". I asked what the price was ($1,500) and I could afford it. I even said "Wow that is a really good price!"
Then I walked out to think it over. This was at 5:30pm and they close at 7pm. Quickly came to my sense and the next morning she was gone. That one will hurt for a long time.
Always good to use a fact-based approach in making decisions like this. GPA has a Spider-Man 2 in 6.0 selling at $5208 in March 2022. So it would have made it a relative no-brainer to purchase unless there was a suspected restoration issue with the book. I know hindsight is 20/20 - but at least you can take a more analytical approach to reduce feeling the regret after the fact.

I think the composition and legs are very Baker like, face is a little harsh? so maybe Baker Pencils, inked by someone else?
It's funny because the legs do remind me of the Crime Reporter and Authentic Police Cases 6 legs. As we know, an inker can make a tremendous difference so that is also an explanation.

Or maybe Ulmer was swiping from a Baker Mitzi piece?
Anything is possible. I just think it's fun to conjecture as we may never have a definitive answer.

Those guys in the back look like Baker though, right? And her fingers are grouped in the middle, as Baker often placed them. I also notice her foot is not flat at the end but the big toe leads, which Kamen avoided drawing in the first place. There is also more detail in the background, which says Baker to me as well. I would vote Baker, despite the unusual face angle.
This Rulah cover is listed as Kamen and the face looks very similar to Seven Seas 5. There is a stiffness of motion in this Seven Seas 5 that is common to Kamen (Saint 1, Claire Voyant 3, Zoot 11), but not common to Baker (APC 6, Seven Seas 4 and 6. But always possible Baker made some contributions to Seven Seas 5.

If you look at Seven Seas 4 and 5, it looks like Baker did 4 and Kamen did 5 although both are listed as Baker.

I have said this before, artists work with art directors. These art directors have input into how the drawing is, ahem, shaped. An art director will come along, look at a drawing in progress and make changes. More boobage.
Very fair point. Perhaps we can all agree that likely multiple folks (Kamen, Baker, and possibly others) had a hand in this iconic cover. And that although this may not be classic Baker, this is certainly a classic cover.

As the debate rages on who is responsible for the PL 17 cover, I would vote this as a Kamen cover. Her right hand is too crudely drawn to be Baker and the face exhibits none of the stylistic elements of any of his prior periods/phases of work. I also don't recall Baker drawing too many covers (if any) with cleavage/headights to this extent. He tried to be more realistic albeit with a lot of admiration for the female form. Kamen on the other hand drew many exaggerated women in bondage and did not have the free flowing elegance of the Baker women.
