The spread on the marvel mystery 46s was pretty atypical too.  A 7.5 normally goes for twice what a 6.0 does.

Maybe not the best choice putting 2 copies in the same auction.  Not sure the order they sold in but it looks like the 6.0 went second and benefitted greatly, perhaps from the underbidder on the 7.5 refusing to be denied again.

Are you saying emotions are a factor in some peoples bidding habits? :roflmao:Yes they certainly are. I know I'm guilty at times.

I will say, I like the centering/cut on the 4.0 much more. On the 5.5 the "10c" is partially cut off; that would kinda bug me.

Me too. The color looked brighter on the 4.0 in the scan at least. i guess I could see them going for about the same. I'm sure you know there has been I think 4 - 7.0 sales in the past 2 years averaging about 28k, so I could see a 5.5 hitting 20k based on that. At 15k it shows people care about the centering/cut/wrap.

Good stuff! The Batman #9 was a heartbreaker with that fade -- the perfect copy for me if not for that.

Me too. Slight resto especially on a black cover is alright with me.

Those 2 All Select 1's defy explanation.

I know. Once the 4.0 hit the price of the 5.5 from two days prior you would think bidding would have stopped, but it didn't. Crazy stuff these auctions.

  5. Here are a few books I was watching, some I think with interesting results. I'll try not to be too long winded.

Action 3 not cheap but considering how rarely a nice blue label comes around I thought it could have gone higher. The two All Sellect 1's, what happened there? The 4.0 was overbid considering past results of higher grade copies in the past year or so but the 5.5 went low compared to the previous four 7.0 's. Bat 9 C-1, faded cover hurt it. Nice comparison of Silver keys 6.0/5.  MM 46, the book that keeps on giving. MM's 2 and 3, yikes on the 3. I'll take the 2 any day of the week. TAR 43 2nd highest graded beauty. Little bidding war happened there. Quite a book that is.  Wonderworld 32 nice price. I guess Hitler helped but it's a great cover and scarce.

Glorious! For me this is one of Lou’s very best covers. Well done (worship)

    Thanks! Me too.

I have had 4 Lou Fine's on my wantlist for a while. Jumbo 10, Mystery Men 3, Hit 5, an National 7. Those 4 books I just think would look real good together. I've got the National so I'm half way there now.

Early and low distribution one day event political buttons and other campaign memorabilia have been a well kept secret for 50+ or more years. Ted Hake got his start auctioning them. And still going VERY strong. See any of their recent auctions. They don’t even have to be that old. Just unusual.

I have been picking them up when I see unusual, colorful or early ones for years.

Let me know when the apocalypse hits and I will quit…

In the 80's and 90's I used to see those pins everywhere at flea markerts in NJ  and Florida. Seemed every other vender had a glass case with election pins (that's what I called them) in them. I had an I Like Ike pin for years that I wore on my jean jacket.

Speaking of apocalypse's, just found a show called Black Summer. Best Zombie tv show I've ever seen.

You mentioned this too but old cars, Model T to 1970's. They're already up there but I see those as always constantly going up in value. To really collect those in a high end multi vehicle way you have to be pretty wealthy, but even just having one really sweet car you can't go wrong.

I guess the photo-list was only of his non-superhero covers. My favorite has a Superman on it.

Oh yeah. Now that's one comic art I'd love to see in person. I may have asked you this before but that is the earliest Superman original cover art in existence right? And I confess I always thought that was a Joe Shuster cover. Now that I look at it closer I see it's not really his style.

A very strong Guardineer cover (made easier on him due to the swipe).  I think Detective 30 may be my favorite of his.  The Action Zatara covers are cool too.

Detective 30? Huh, to be honest that's probably my least favorite of his, or my least favorite of the DC's he did (thumbsu I should change the title here to Post Your Guardineer's or Favorite Guardineer Cover.
