Alex Shomburg is over-rated. This doesn't mean we can't still be friends I hope. -

Yeah they all went for a nice chunk, except the 9.2 #12 for 14,400. Not once did I hear the auctioneer say the words Jack or Kirby during bidding. Those two words combined early in the bidding probably would have created a few more bids. It is a Kirby cover possibly inked by Joe or possibly Jack himself. Pretty early Kirby and I think his 1st really great cover. I thought it would go a little higher. 8.0 Larson went for 16,500 last September. The 8.0 #12 sold for 10,200 today. -

Also the 1.8 Bat 1 really had a difficult time topping 100k. New owner should be happy. Not all books went low. I was eyeing the AC 19 6.0 A-3 thinking it could be had for around 3k. Went for over 5k. Kinda steep. -

I don't know. It would probably be the Frazetta painting Egyption Queen for 5.4. This not just original art but a one of a kind painting. Up there with the likes of Van Eyck, Van Dyck, Van Gogh. Pretty neat that a guy who drew comics is right up there with the top dogs like Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci. -
That's it. I think most of the time the current owner doesn't even know there have been offers/bids. And many of the ones that do just ignore it. Also, it can be used by the owner as a way to see how much people are willing to offer for their book.

L.B. Cole cover thread! Post your favorites by the master!

I see what you mean about the rabbit and wolf. I was thinking the same, or that they don't look like his animals from Frisky Animals. The shape of the eyes on the little guy dwarf or whatever he is does have the same ovular shape as many of the creatures on Taffy and Frisky but that was common in cartoons back then. There are no brightly colored plaid or stripes on Krazy like Cole often used. I'd like to think the L.B. Cole Black Light authors did their research properly but they could be wrong. Two things that have me leaning toward Cole is that the castle towers in Krazy are drawn the same as in Frisky 2. The knots on the trees in Krazy and Taffy 1 are very similar. Also possible that Victor Fox didn't want signatures on his covers. I don't think many or any Fox books had signatures. Or maybe Fox was paying Cole peanuts so he just turned in a quick cover. Even GCD isn't sure. But they do include it in their L.B. Cole cover checklist. -
When I see non pedigrees like that I wonder where the heck it was all those years that it survived like that, and did it have company. Were there others like it. A book like that you would think was stored not only in consistent temperature and humidity conditions but probably in a folder or larger book or some sort of item that covered and protected it and maybe kept it flat. Even stored in a box for 80 years probably wouldn't keep it that pristine in most climates.

Yeah. The book I mentioned above say's, "An early, unsigned Cole cover done for Victor Fox's notoriously low paying comic book line". Even the current cgc holders don't credit anyone. -

I just grabbed this little book tonight. Heritage describes it as such: KrazyLife #1 (Fox, 1945) CGC VF- 7.5 Cream to off-white pages. Funny animal stories. L. B. Cole-esque cover. Only issue of the title. Overstreet 2022 VF 8.0 value = $170. CGC census 5/23: 1 in 7.5, 4 higher. Black Light the World of L.B. Cole says it's his cover. I think it is. What do yo all think (or know)? -
I just found this out. He was a great artist and a great person.
