  1. I was going to post a few closed auctions of books I thought were notable but I bailed halfway through the sving process. Just so my labor of saving these pics doesn't go to waste here are a few. And congrats to the new owner of a Detective 18.
  2. If you can find out the answer to that I'd be forever grateful, because not one postal worker so far that I've asked can answer that with any assuring level of accuracy. Some have said yes and some no and a few I'm not sures. I just looked it up and only found this which is on the usps website: "What Extra Services are available? Insurance: You must declare the full value of the mailpiece, when presenting it for mailing. Insurance matching the declared value of the item(s) is included up to $50,000." So If I am understing correctly they do insure it for the value you declare. Do you think that's what that means? On the current slip there is no area to put extra insurance if that means anything.
  3. I think I know why. USPS insurance price went up really high. Maybe other carriers have as well. The past few books this year that I was going to send usps insured I instead sent registered mail because it was much less expensive. It used to be the opposite. Some really great books in this months auction event. Gonna be Fun Fun Fun.
  4. What the ? I see 33,350 , I think thats including the juice but still that is one startling price.
  5. Hey! Right, I'm trying to do the math as to how much $150.00 gets you.. 6,000? I think you can get a book claimed as 6,000 graded for 150.00? After that technically you would be charged more? 2 days is pretty quick so that's a plus.
  6. At first that made great sense to me until I read what Yorick said. I just noticed they still basically have a "walkthrough" (2 days), they just don't call it that anymore I guess. I think it was 150 or 3% now it''s 4%. Good advice.
  7. Hey what's up Doc?That wasn't a Bugs Bunny reference, just me saying hi. I don't submit much these days but when I do I usually have the best luck when I use 2nd fastest tier. For some reason when I've done walkthrough I've ........well kinda got screwed. I just looked at the services and fees page, looks like that simplified it. 10 days is the fastest now. Unless I'm reading it wrong. Hey what's up morbius? Lucky you. I sometimes have dreams that I find rare and valuable comics at estate sales , then I wake up and get sad. Nice score though , Famous Funnies 1. What are the odds. Just to be sure it's the cover with a man golfing right? Because you probably know there was a FF Series 1 with no number that came out before issue 1. Please when you get it back come back and show us. Everyone who posted here I'm sure would love to see a fresh FF #1. .
  8. Quite a book there. My advice get it graded by CGC asap using one of the two fastest tiers they offer. A book like that will look awesome in a shiny new holder. Hope for the best and offer it here first.
  9. Call them again. They've been shipping to me using usps for a while now, a few years. pretty sure they'll send usps if you call to have it noted on your account.
  10. 4.0 just went for 10,800 on HA. 6.5 on CC was up to 10k last I looked. For once I can say I'm glad I got mine when I did.
  11. Hi jimbo, yep for me USPS registered is the way to go. Almost impossible to get lost or stolen while they are in possession of it. And if it did they's know exactly where and when it happened. Lock and key like you said. I've sent thousands of books regular usps priority and can't think of any getting lost. A few got damaged but they always arrived.
  12. I'm really sorry this happened to you. I hate to use the word hate but I hate fedex. I have every account I get comics from noted specifically not to use fedex. Not a fan of the brown shorts company either but fedex is worse. The stuff they send almost never arrives the day it's supposed to. They lose stuff a lot. Basically it's always an ordeal with them. Maybe I'm just unlucky. .About a month ago an auction house accidentally sent me a book via fedex, stressed me out. Then it says delivered but it's not here. Created a lot of problems which I won't get into. I called them and they're like " We no lose", "We deliver comic to house" "Tracking say delivered" . Then about 7pm my doorbell rings, I see a box on my steps. A lady was about to drive away but I got her attention. It was delivered to her house on another street and luckily she was honest. Not one thing in my address or hers was similar other than the town and zip. They have one responsibilty, one simple task that requires 3 basic abilities - reading, driving and walking. So will you be able to get your money back through insurance? I hope so. And like Lost said, keep an eye on e bay. I have a feeling he/she is an expert on matters such as this. . Good Luck. P.S. Have Heritage put on your account to use usps only and if you ever sell with them and they want you to send the boks via fedex (which I think they do) have them send you a box and shipping label this way it's on their account, they'll take the shipping charge out of your sales money.
  13. I was only watching 5 books and this was one. Thought it went cheap. Good score.
  14. Oh a wise guy ha? You know I was going to have it re-slabbed because I was told there was a small crack in a lower corner. I was going to ask CGC if they could check the indicia for me when they cracked it. But there is no crack. Holder is perfect. I even took a flashlight and magnifying glass to it.
  15. Yes you're right, that was a premature confirmation on my part. I spoke to MCS, very accommodating folks down there. He looked up what they had which is 1 book- 2 publishers- Rural Home and Croydon. They have April/May 1945 listed for both but not sure if that's correct. According to the Comic Vine - Essentially a division of Rural Home Inc. Croydon Publishing, was a small golden age press, and they were active in the mid-1940s and published one issue of Captain Wizard, as well as a handful of other titles. Rural Home - https://comicvine.gamespot.com/rural-home/4010-1878/ Croydon - https://www.comics.org/publisher/137/ My new Mask 2- Very happy with this.
  16. Just to be clear what I meant by "confirmation" was that adamstrange just confirmed it. If one of his copies has like he said a black bar and is dated Fall 1945 I do believe that is confirmation that there are two printings. Could even be more but probably just two. And it's very likely that the 1st Mask #2 cgc graded was a Fall 1945 copy and they just never changed the label, or decided not to give an indication on the label of what printing each book they grade actually is. As I write this I have an unopened box containing a Mask 2 right next to me. I better get to it.
  17. Hey all, I've asked this before I think in another thread. Apparently Overstreet has Mask 2 listed as having 2 printings- One in April/May of 1945 and one in September 1945 by an un-named publisher. The correct date should be April/May I'm pretty sure and not Fall 1945 like cgc puts on the label. Gerber says nothing about 2 printings. I've looked at 25 different copies from sales going back about 15 years. I see nothing on the cover to indicate 2 printings. All back cover ads are the same. Just trying to be sure. I'm starting to think Mr. Overstreet got it wrong. Any knowledge about this please contact me here on this thread.Thanks. The 7.5 #1- I predict around 50k. Too much.
  18. Hi Mijael. I regret not buying a high grade unrestored copy many years ago. There are 2 6.0 R's. An A-3 and a B-3. Not sure which one sold before.
  19. Oh wow. Thanks so much for posting that. Every one looks great. Love what he did with the Hit 4.
  20. Makes sense. I just noticed his Science Comics 1 on the wall..........by Murphy Anderson. https://www.comicconnect.com/item/713713 I didn't see the Detective 18 as being sold. I bet he kept that one.
  21. That Detective Comics 18 he had on his wall in the picture you posted looks totally awesome. I was wondering if Creig made it especially for him. "Shelly" Moldoff created some particularly nice quality ones as well. I bet Mr. Berk had at least one of his also. Kind of funny, the shaved off part. Kind of. Kind of not. I know you probably don't want to out the artist but I'd love to see that finished work. edit: Looking at it again , is it numbered as 15 instead of 18? If so no big deal, makes it even more unique.
  22. Ok thanks . I would have loved to see his face when that auction ended. He was probably dancin on the ceiling and doing back flips. What a book, and what a price it got. And for him to take it out and handle it so you can take a picture of it. That gesture alone says a lot.
  23. Is that his 9.4 before it was graded or a different one?
  24. Yeah I'd like to know. One reason is I love a good mystery but now that I just acquired a B-3 I really want to know. I hope it wasn't a second publisher , I mean if so it's not really the same book, practically a re-print. I wish somebody here knew for sure. If 2nd prints aren't Rural Home's the proof has gotta be probably on the 1st page. And I'm still thinking the printing artifacts (I like that term) , or the lack of, might be an indicator. I'm seeing about 1 in 4 copies without the marks (gonna do an exact count later tonight). Could be the the ones without the marks are just the early ones off the presses before ink/debris built up, but could be they are the 2nd prints, or 1st.
