  1. A not so bad ComicConnect auction began today. Is there a thread on that? The Action 1 Bag 'O Flakes is up to 6 dollars already.
  2. I was wondereing too . I did a search of the auction alphabetically. Added up all the pennyworth Batmans and Detectives in my head. Came to right around 1.4 million for the Nov. 19-21 auction. . I didn't count the Bat 1 cb cs because I'm pretty sure that wasn't his. I counted just under 200 of his books that just ended in the Nov. 19-21 auction. But according to the article by Heritage - Lawrence's decision to part with his collection of more than 1,000 Dark Knight issues brings to market some of the finest-graded Batman and Detective Comics issues ever available in a single place. I wonder where the other 800 or so books are. Was there any raw books in this past auction? I only saw CGC graded ones.
  3. Yep. I think thats true. Glad he got some nice prices on them. For a time, he started collecting again. But eventually, after the thrill and relief dissipated and worry again returned, Lawrence called Heritage's Aaron White and said: Now's the time. Come get them. Lawrence is 60 years old, and ready to retire and cut loose his prized possessions. https://www.ha.com/heritage-auctions-press-releases-and-news/one-of-the-most-storied-and-celebrated-collections-of-batman-comics-heads-to-heritage-auctions-in-november.s?releaseId=4006&type=social-Twitter-Comics-7236-pr4006-103020
  4. The main ingredient for the Bat 181 going so high was because there are only 3 9.8's. A few people just had to have it.
  5. Cool. There are a bunch of single Bat 1 pages starting soon on CC. I have an 8th page only. Wouldn't mind having both the Joker and the Batman splashes to put on my mantle. https://www.comicconnect.com/item/892770 https://www.comicconnect.com/item/898002
  6. Oh yeah? I dare you to say it to his face. Actually I doubt he would care much. He'd probably be very pleasant about it. And you are probably one of the few who would rather own a Bat 1 over a 27 , but thats cool. It does kinda look better.
  7. Cool thanks for posing this. I saw about the first half hour live. Too bad the video doesn't have the sound or video of the auctioneer , I like that part of it. Did I say thanks for posting? Thanks for posting. Imagine how Alfred Pennyworth feels watching this, watching himself get rich in real time.
  8. Hi Lou, so do you think this restored 6.5 is the same one that was listed as NM decades ago? I guess there is no way to find a picture of it back then. And there is some darkness on the cover near the spine up by the letter D, maybe that's the stain he mentioned. Unless there were 2 larson 36's I suppose it must be the same one. I've never seen a restored Larson then again I haven't been looking. But why get a book listed as near mint restored? Even if it was really just in the VF range that still seems counterproductive. Like you said its very possible it was damaged or roughed up after it was assigned that NM grade. That would be my bet. I was interested in this one because I want one pre robin detective and 36 and 37 are realistically the only 2 I'll ever have a chance at, aside from 32 or 34. The timing just wasn't right for me right now otherwise I would have gone after this one (meaning I don't have the money on hand) But I think the buyer got a real good deal on this one. Hopefully he/she will make it available again sometime soon. PS I didnt think CGC lowered grades on restored books because they are restored. Most restored 8.0's for example look like 8.0's to me. I hope they don't do that, they shouldn't, but thats another topic for another time.
  9. Wish I did. I think it went for a pretty good price for the buyer. Nice looking book, Looks like they did a good job on it. Goth do you know if that book was ever in a Blue label before the resto? I was going to ask before but wanted to wait until it closed.
  10. I was watching the auctioneer when these were happening. He seemed a little surprised the 29 didn't go higher. It did finish a little light compared to the past few of similar grade. I don't really understand why the 31 sells for more than the 29, and quite a bit more. Is it mainly because of the cover art?
  11. 81,000 with 11 hours to go. Holy S*** Batman. Speaking of 9.8's there's a ASM 3 up on CL now.
  12. fifties those are soooo cool. Beautiful really
  13. 12 hours to go eeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! 1.3 Million (minus 10K). I wonder if someone is regretting selling the pedigree 6.0 for 850,000. I have a feeling we're gonna see some serious stuff go down at the finish line.
  14. I check the bidding every 108 minutes to prevent the world from being destroyed.
  15. Check out the big brain on tth2! Haha you're right. I didn't think of that while I was engrossed (I've never used that word before) in the article. I wasn't sure if he got them ALL back. Darn near miracle he did. In this Heritage article it seems he also had a time getting the books back from the court system, at least thats how I interpret it. https://www.ha.com/heritage-auctions-press-releases-and-news/one-of-the-most-storied-and-celebrated-collections-of-batman-comics-heads-to-heritage-auctions-in-november.s?releaseId=4006&type=social-Twitter-Comics-7236-pr4006-103020 Lawrence and attorney Wayne Schwartz spent a long time trying to reclaim his comics — first, from the man who pleaded guilty to trafficking Lawrence's stolen property; then, from the investigators and attorneys who had taken custody of his books. When he finally got them back earlier this year, "I felt like the luckiest, luckiest guy," Lawrence says.
  16. yeah I didn't see it got that high. Very good chance it gets left alone from here on. Seems pretty high but who knows these days. Plus there are so few. I thought there was more than 3 9.8's. Just looked up Tec 359 , only 4 9.8's. Compared to Silver Marvels there are a lot less DC 9.8's. I learn something new every day around here.
  17. About the auction you're right , some awesome books. Got 91 in my watchlist. Can't buy or sell anymore this year too bad for me. But its one of the best auctions I can remember. So glad you posted that link. I was wondering what the Alfred Pennyworth collection was. Now there is an example of someone doing it right. Well written article too. I had never heard about the theft. They kept the reader in suspense about whether or not he got his books back. That Comic store owner in Arizona was a stand up guy for sure.
  18. Hi bpc3qh, But don't you think that greatly increases the chances of being outbid? It only takes one other person to keep bidding until they are the top bidder. I like to put mine in within the final 5 or 10 seconds this way others don't have enough time to bid again. Only downside is with that way you get just one shot at it.
  19. In other words they "do their homework" first? They bid with their head not over it?
