  1. Dan Dare, 'Rogue Planet' episode 3 pages 1 & 2 (1955), a combination of Frank Hampson and Don Harley finished art. The original artworks were re-structured for a 1960s reprint, eliminating parts of the art used for the first printing.
  2. Dan Dare, 'The Man From Nowhere', episode 8 page 2, (1955). Interesting original, this one. For a very short period, Hampson tried experimenting with production methods. Instead of painting this particular page in full, he created a pen & ink original, from which he printed a copy to be coloured separately. He didn't like the results so quickly reverted back to full-painted original art.
  3. Dan Dare, 'The Man From Nowhere', episode 1 page 1 (1955)
  4. Road of Courage - episode 12, prelim and finished art (which sadly has lost most of its colour through fading)
  5. Late 1940s drawings pre-dating Hampson's EAGLE artwork . . .
  6. Paid a visit to the UK's Atkinson Gallery in Southport yesterday to view the exhibition of Frank Hampson artworks currently being staged up until March 2019. Hampson created 'Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future' for EAGLE magazine back in 1950 (which some American collectors will be aware of). He mostly produced fully-painted artwork, with the 1955 - 1960 period showcasing his best work (the earlier strips are very good also). Here's a selection of photographs I took from my visit. Excuse the odd camera angles . . . all the artworks are behind glass and it was difficult trying to get compositions that eliminated flash reflection . . . Atkinson Gallery exterior . . .
  7. Who's upset by art being donated? Not me, I think it's a wonderful gesture. Far as I'm aware, the Donnelly Brothers are not noted for their philanthropy? They serve a different god. As such, wishful thinking on this one . . .
  8. The AF 15 story was donated (likely to be by MS). Unless a museum steps in to purchase, I can't see the Donnelly Brothers making a gift donation.
  9. Artist is F. Germain and, no, I've never seen the OA surface. You could always try asking on my Movie Poster original artwork FB group (you'd have to become a member): www.facebook.com/groups/131047770909401/
  10. The original art for the cover and contents of IMPACT 1 came up for auction in a 1989 Russ Cochran Art Auction. Davis's cover art (based on "Master Race') sold at $1,485, though the complete story art for 'Master Race' was no longer available at the time of the auction (listed as, "Having sold many years ago"). I very much doubt that the Brothers Donnelly were the original owners. John Benson wrote a detailed essay on 'Master Race' for an early edition of the Squa Tront fanzine. It's at the back of my mind that maybe Benson was given (or sold) the artwork by Gaines? That's pure speculation on my behalf (maybe based on a long distant memory . . . I can't say for sure). The story art ought to attract big numbers, though expectations from the Brothers might not necessarily result in a sale? Be interesting to see how this one pans out . . .
  11. If the Donnelly's are consigning, my guess the reserve is one meelion greenbacks!

  13. Yep, once had a piece of art get wet in transit, so art inside a sealed plastic bag is a must. I once had an artist ship me two pieces of art sandwiched between two pieces of Masonite placed inside an oversized jiffy bag. The Masonite sheets got broken in transit. . . . . which is why I subscribe to your last point that I've highlighted.
