  1. To be totally honest, the first thought that went through my evil, twisted mind was that Bats was wiping his azz on a roll of . . . minimal-effort sketch covers . . .
  2. Ditko ASM pages are guaranteed my automatic vote though, no, I didn't see any either . . .
  3. Today's selection . . . Sketches. One of my least favorite categories but I managed to stretch to five choices:
  4. Some people will do anything to get a single vote! It's when they start congratulating themselves we should really begin to worry! ;)
  5. Ah, right missed that one, lol! To be honest, I'm more focused on the artwork rather than a breakdown of the credits/owner. I just assume everyone's following the rules.
  6. It is a good idea, though with some of the categories I'm wading through right now, I'm struggling to come up with five selections! Far as I'm aware, you're not obliged to use all of your votes in any one section, so the option of extending from five to ten shouldn't be a problem for those categories I struggle to muster-up much enthusiasm for. Anyways, on to today's selections . . . Strip art. Here, extra voting capacity would have worked well as I was spoilt for choice on art I actually like (and would be proud to own):
  7. Yeah, you can always over-complicate things . . . the older farts, like me, will vote for the older stuff that we're familiar with, while the newbie collectors will gravitate towards more recent things . . . it's all cyclical. The newbie collectors of today will, over time, eventually become the old farts of tomorrow!
  8. As I said in my first post . . . basically, I'm (usually) voting for art that I would be proud to own. That will likely equate to a large percentage of big-ticket items, which is probably inevitable, as that's the kind of stuff that floats my boat. It's highly personal, the way I vote . . . not for everyone . . . , and I don't really need someone telling me that my choices are not their choices. Why should they be? Sure, you can probably second guess who the likely winners are going to be . . . as per your Olympians vs High-schoolers analogy I guess that if you're going to watch a sporting event, you want to be entertained and impressed by skills on the field, not by the clumsy antics of some of the also-rans. . . . or, looked at another way, who d'ya think's gonna win this beauty contest from the five entrants pictured: On the plus side, this yearly event can often bring to my attention a lot of art I'm either totally unfamiliar with, or have little knowledge about, that I end up liking as my interests are aroused. I try not to take this event too seriously . . . and hopefully none of the participants get too traumatized when their entries fail to pick up any votes:
  9. Yeah, and they usually stamped-up issue details in the upper margin. The owner could narrow things down to Thundra's appearances in the Spidey universe?
  10. I'll spread this one out on a day-by-day basis. Rather than list all the individual details of what I'm voting for, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Basically, I'm (usually) voting for art that I would be proud to own. . . . and I'm not going to clog-up my selections with honourable mentions . . . runners-up, and that sort of thing. No offence to anyone who does, it's just not for me (and as the voting options don't cater for it, neither will I). My Covers selection:
  11. Maybe it's Stan's way of re-asserting himself as creator . . . with a little bit of help from the artists? . . . I think.
  12. At first glance, I thought it was a 96. now I'm not so sure, lol! Personally, if I was writing the number 7, I'd start top left to bottom and there would be no reason to curl what should be a straight line across. At least the sig's in the margin which, if I owned the art, wouldn't bother me at all.
  13. Yeah, my copy arrived this morning . . . I was lying in bed nursing a hangover and the mailman knocked, so I rushed (staggered) downstairs and received my copy, which was ordered Monday (shipped from Germany to the UK). It looks terrific, and probably rating now as the definitive Frazetta book to own! Was pleased to see the very first Fritz original I ever owned in the selection of art images . . . an early Johnny Comet daily I bought from Russ Cochran in the early 1980s (sadly departed from my collection years ago). The only Frazetta remaining with me is a pressbook illustration for the movie, The Night They Raided Minsky's (1968). The Minsky's movie poster painting has always been one of my favorite FF images but over the several times it's came up for auction since the mid-1980s onwards has always been out of my budget range . . . so the pressbook original is a nice consolation prize for me. For those that obsess over such things (definitely not me), this one's numbered at 3367.
  14. Maybe Taschen used a newly-colored version of the OA to provide a sharper image than the original printing? Definitely my favorite Frazetta comic-book cover, even better than WSF # 29, imho. I'm glad they used this one to front the book!
  15. I just ordered a copy over here in the UK from Taschen. Listed as in stock with a delivery window of 4 - 5 days. I'll do a post when it arrives.
  16. There are usually originals coming up periodically in the selection of the ongoing printed movie poster Heritage auctions - you just have to monitor them to see if any OA is included. I run a FB group in which movie OA sometimes come up for sale: (3) Original MOVIE Art & Marketplace | Facebook . . . with my own personal collection at: 2. MOVIE POSTER paintings - Terry Doyle's Original Comic Art Gallery at ComicArtFans.com
  17. My five entries were . . . BANK HOLIDAY (1938) original movie poster painting, artist unknown. Heritage win from late last year and the earliest piece of movie art now in my collection: Four JEFF HAWKE dailies by Sydney Jordan (layouts) and Colin Andrew (finishes) from the 1960 story, 'Survival' (my favorite JH adventure . . . the artwork is uniformly superb. Some examples from my entries, including three panels in detail to better showcase the art:
