  1. Shame someone got Steve Oliff to color the Hampton Dan Dare.

    I kid!

I have zero exposure to Dan Dare outside of your posts, but every time I see one of these I feel like I need to find out more. The artwork is just stunning. I know John Byrne is a big fan of the book. Keep spreading the Dan Dare goodness!

  2. “LF Fellow Younger Collectors To Connect With”

    to quote Ben Kenobi

”we aren’t the collectors you’re looking for”

TikToc ... that reminds me I need to wind my pocket watch.  What am I doing holding my watch... am I early or late. Hey where’s my meds. Honey there’s a young guy on the steps, says he’s looking for young collectors. Sorry friend, there hadn’t been young collectors since... well since... honey what was I talkin bout... Oh yeah... since we were young collectors

  3. Another good show. For those of us who been in the hobby for a while but not regular convention goers, it’s cool to get to know the big players a bit better. Kinda like Felix’s podcast it brings the community just a little bit closer.

For example after Felix’s interview Albert Moy, I heard his stories and when I had a chance to talk with him at a Dallas show it was very pleasant and I actually had a conversation jumping off point thanks to the podcast. The same will hold true next time I speak with Burkey and who ever shows up at the next comic art con. This is really good for the hobby and I’m sure it will help the guys bottom line... by letting other collectors know them and feel comfortable approaching them with possible trades or consignments.

Keep up the good work guys and enjoy the 4th.. PLEASE keep the comic art away from the fireworks!

  4. Hopefully in the future the inker will type  a notification in non repo blue on the bottom of the page. “hand drawn inks by John Doe over blue line printout out of John Smith’s pencils.” Until this starts to happen there will a lot of be people buying what they think is 100% original art when in reality it’s 50% original 50% printout.

In my opinion it’s on the inkers to straighten this mess out. Telling the buyer isn’t the same because during the next transaction of the page that info isn’t going to be revealed 100% of the time. Inkers need to make sure it’s physically indicated on the art.

  5. I am most interested in the penciler. He is the one who faced the blank page and tamed that beast!  This is doesn’t diminish the inkers contribution. I definitely understand how hard it is to produce good quality inks, inkers need to be appreciated... I love inkers I am impressed with what they can do, but for me at the end of the day it feels like less than original art, it is more like ”almost original art”... because the most important part... the initial artistic creation is not original.

What I would love for inkers that are inking over printouts to do is- in the same repoblue ink type a description of the process at the bottom space of the page. “John Smith’s original inks over a digital printout of Jim Smith’s pencils”

This would help future purchasers to know exactly what the are buying without having to track down the inker or the rep to find out how original I the original art is.

The NY Comic Art Expo is still scheduled for Saturday May 2, 2020.

That is great to know, I already have a flight booked. I definitely will introduce myself, meeting the guys in the hobby is just about the best part of the cons.

I'll be the guy in the green foam Gumby suit... it is a cosplay c-list movie star show right? ;)

  7. I sent Zaddick a PM through CGC few few days ago, asking about the status of the NYC Comic Art Expo, since the site doesn't seem to be active and haven't heard anything. I didn't receive a reply back.

Does anyone know if the show is still on? Any info would be helpful, trying to see if I may need make alternate travel plans to a different convention.

I think the final price was about right, neither a bargain nor a rip off.

I think you did get a lot of bang for your buck with this purchase! Tough to beat the content and the art is pretty rock solid. I was late to appreciate Dave's art but it has steadily grown on me over the years, so much so, that I will probably pick up a 2nd run X-Men piece before all is said and done. Hey I said I like Dave's art, but not at first run prices like it ; )
