Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay
The Less Blob replied to fastballspecial's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
You know, you always say it and I don't buy it. You bought a collection I presume. Sure, the cost per book was 40 cents, but realistically you were paying for the sellable books and viewing the drek as penny a book or whatever stuff you are going to dump however you can. So, let's be honest and admit you really paid a buck a pop for those. Unless you actually bought 100 of these sorts of books and paid $40. Then, yeah, it really is 40 cents... I paid no more than $1 each for mine, but they could have been bought any time in the last 20-25 years, so that's a little deceptive. -

With that said I think Donut's $100 had a lot to do with it being a perfect 9.8able copy. -

Anecdotal and my brain could be mushy, but I remember putting up a bunch of books before the last Spidey movie to unload my 1sts apps of Hydroman, etc. and figured some Venom/Carnage stuff would be good too as there was still Venom movie buzz, and I was unimpressed with the sales figures on 316. Maybe $15-20 for a raw 9.2-9.4 copy? So I held off putting up my copies. Sold some 361s and 362s though. -

9.8s only seem to be around $80-90, at least completed auctions. Hard to tell what store items are actually selling for. I guess at $80-90 it still works financially? -
Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay

"I think it’s silly to chase the latest hot stuff as a speculator." Please shush. Those speculators allow me to pursue my Golden and Silver age beater collection. Those raggedy archies don't grow on trees. Not to mention, those "hot book" speculators bought about 40 copies of saga 1 from me at $10, $20, and $30 a pop when I thought to book was due to drop like a rock as well as earlyish WD issues when I was excited to dump them for $10 and nyx 3 for $10... So sometimes it works out. -

asm 316 for $100? for reals? has that gotten extra hot lately? I remember pricing it out earlier in the year and deciding it wasn't worth listing my copies because I thought they should go for more than what the recent sales said. -
Sorry, I thought I was responding to the OP and not someone giving him the business.

Except CGC 9.8s SELL for $30-$35 or less. Why don't you learn how to search on ebay for actual SALES data? It will help.

OK, not everyone has 40 years of cheap-o box purchases to yank treasures out of. -

New Avengers 11 New Avengers 27 Shazam 1 Xforce 11 ----- As these were all dollar box or less books before the movie hype (OK, shazam was a $2-5 book) I don't think they have done "zilch"... they did "zilch" if you bought them post-hype at post-hype dollars. Admittedly the shazam movie hype began a while ago once there was even a hint of a movie coming out. -

Need to go through the boxes! I sold a bunch earlier this year in the $25-$35 range, but I think I have some left. Those homage covers did not sell out at my old shop and I got a bunch cheap. Of course, I know I have tons of the non-homage covers from the 230s that aren't doing much. It's weird, there is a glut of those and then a few issues later print runs nosedived? Some ebay listings for 10 claim it is the 1st app. Is it the first app of the lady who becomes iron maiden? I have not read these (or if I did I read them 35 years ago). -

Nothing huge. Anyway, I've always bought these 3 when I saw them for the sweet covers anyway, #10 is really iconic. Someone was making like $1,000 handbags with it on there. Marvel fanfare has some beautiful covers. Interesting insides too. -

You put quarter box drek into mylites? Thousands of mylites should factor into your pricing. Anyway, if you want to know what they're worth look up every book via ebay completed auctions. Every single one! Trying to guess movie connections is nuts. If they are all so organized that is a 5 or 8 hour project. Figure 6 books a minute, 360 an hour, 8 hours = 2,880 books. Start at noon on a Sunday and do it while watching 3 NFL games. Easy peasy. Drink a lot of coffee. -

Jeez louis, do you ever stop? Cuz I don't know the "how much money you could have made" # for buying Amazon in 2001, that's why, just 1997. I do know you could have made about 225X your money buying Apple then when Apple was in the krapper. So switch Apple into the analogy and make it 2001/2002, whenever Apple was hovering under $1 a share. Happy? Long live Thor 339! -

Youngling you have so much to learn about the world of comics. Thor 339 is like a magical boomerang. It will come back stronger than ever. ASM 300, 129, Spotlight 5 .. at one point all significantly retreated into hidey holes and could be had cheap ..I kid you not I bought a VF type ASM 300 on ebay for $3.00 in the early 2000s and bought a MS 5 for $2 at a show in the late 90s when GR was as dead as a corpse. The Great Ones (TM) always bounce back with ferocity. -

Fine, whatever, and then it bounced back like nobody's business. If you had bought $1000 of Amazon in the IPO in 1997 you'd have something like $1.5 million or so now. It was never that high before the crash. -

Oh stop. He's excited. Why you need to krap on him? If only he knew that he should put all of his money into Thor 339, that would be like buying Amazon in 1997.... -

Packing, shipping, dealing with facebook people ghosting you, scamming you, claiming the package did not arrive/is not as advertised...you overestimating FMV...frankly, if you could get 30% under FMV from a dealer on the good stuff that isn't so bad. -

I don't think I own one of these, which is shocking because it is the kind of book I would have bought any time I saw it in a dollar box. Maybe I never saw it? -

I should have been out there hunting yesterday, but slept until 1 p.m. Did find some awesome stuff in a box I thought was just junk books. I am just so tired of misleading facebook ads for comics selling. One place that sells various pop culture collectibles around here keeps on running an add showing a table with like 12 long boxes of $1 comics. I went there 2 or 3 weeks ago in response to the ad and there was one long box less than 1/2 full and half of them were free comic day books. They said they had been cleaned out of their comics. So why do they keep running the same ad/photo? I drove 20 minutes and spent 50 cents on parking last time. -
