  1. Maybe some people don't want others to know what they're buying? Hidden shame in buying moderns, or porn, or whatever. But yes, allowing PM buys makes it unwieldly.
  2. If they are cheap you should probably buy them. If they were regular issues they are a bit rough.
  3. In the early 2000s it was bad too, but still sold a lot to Canadians. I remember some art supply store in Canada was offering 2 for $1...$1 American for every $2 worth (Canadian) they listed. Obviously when oil prices popped that changed. A flat rate PM envelope was like $6 or $7. what is it now?
  4. Here are some random BA books bought on ebay recently: Avengers 145, listed at 7.0..sold for $9.54 (including $4.99 shipping) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Avengers-1st-Series-145-7-0-1976/253630726129?hash=item3b0d91bff1:g:-WAAAOSwIzda~nSM Spider-Man 169 in 4.0 -- sold for $9.90 ($4.95 shipping) https://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-AMAZING-SPIDER-MAN-169-1977-Marvel-Comics-VG-Stan-Lee-Cameo/352455399937?epid=85482821&hash=item520ffa9a01:g:anAAAOSwik9bkZQ3 Daredevil 133 in 5.0 - $16.50 (free s/h) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Daredevil-1st-Series-133-1976-VG-FN-5-0/312320412109?hash=item48b7bf49cd:g:RfkAAOSww7tb7Nz7 Green Lantern 144 (about a VG/VG+) - $6.00 free s/h https://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-Lantern-144-Sep-1981-DC-Vol-2-1960-1986-DC-Comics-/382582210394?epid=85409336&hash=item5913ad3f5a%3Ag%3AtxsAAOSwZKpbt7Ni&nma=true&si=k5rBGBi%2BuujbAIA%2FqNJ8cW9pcBQ%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 X-Men 183 listed in 7.5 - $4.99 ($3 s/h) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Uncanny-X-Men-182-Jun-1984-Marvel/264046337863?hash=item3d7a635f47:g:02IAAOSwVXdb8Jkp When you look at the total purchase price on many books you will see there are people spending money, it's just that S/H is often eating up a lot of it. (How many people got combined shipping, I dunno, but I suspect it is fewer than you'd think). Frankly, these total prices are high for a comic shop or expensive table at a convention. Heck, even at Mile High a VG ASM 169 is "only" $9.75 without a codeword! Shipping sucks the money out of your pocket as a seller.
  5. I guess, I never did well, sometimes some old avengers sold decently. In the early 2000s they moved a lot faster, but the prices were still not great. Shipping costs keep on going up, particularly to Canada, which when I was selling a ton 15 years ago were a disproportionate % of buyers.
  6. Is there something about red covers that is subliminally appealing? (When they have nice color, not faded). I found myself over bidding (and losing) on an our army at war with a rich red cover. There is a 1st series moon knight with a gorgeous red cover that is hot.
  7. And not to say they will all stay dead. If I can find a chew 1 cheap I would buy it, but that is still around $400 in 9.8. Was it once up to $700-800? (Not sure) A 9.8 #2 just sold for under $40 shipped. I sold a pristine raw copy for $75 when slabs were around $200.
  8. When were silver and bronze filler hot unless in 9.8? (I guess some in 9.4-.6)
  9. Thief of thieves, walking dead, scalped, hellblazer, chew, every image # 1, some gotg books, some deadpool books. Many variants hot in 2013. Ok, not all of these are dead, but some have cooled a lot.
  10. Thanks. 1.0 is probably about right, but I dunno about it being a 1.5-8 without the clip. Have seen worse at 1.8-2.0. (I used to collect slabbed GA in that range) People here were opining that the tape covered x-men 1 was a 1.8-2.0. But the clip does hurt and it isn't an action 1 that would get the benefit of the doubt. Not sending it in for slabbing, of course, just trying to wrap my head around grading a beater, which cgc seems to have a lot of variability on.
  11. I am perplexed as to how you read what I wrote and interpreted it that way. In 1993 there was an overall bubble. Practically everything was supposedly hot. Now we have a market where a lot of keys are super hot and nobody cares about the other 99.9% of the books out there. There may be a mini bubble for some of those keys, but the rest of the market is already deflated. Lots of buying opportunities if you think anything may bounce back.
  12. Great cover! CGC will give it a 5.5.. As for the back, kelpidine chewing gum was apparently the subject of a supreme court case!: https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/338/269/
  13. The staples are attached. The spine actually looks slightly less rough in person. The pages are not brittle. How much does the coupon clip kill it? I've seen rough books from CGC with as much cover "missing" that get 2.0s (like that Action 1) and this is on the back.
  14. They only want $50+ books, but yeah, you can probably slide some $30-$40 ones in there (but there will still be a $5 fee minimum, so it is more than 10%) and my guess is that they maybe grade the consignment books a bit harsh? I dunno, I thought I heard that somewhere. On the other hand, that just means folks will be willing to pay higher prices. On the flip side, if you want your books back if they don't sell for a while, there is a cost beyond shipping. Plus, my work computer does not let me log on there, it is blocked!! They must think it is porn or something. But they let me log into Milehigh??
  15. Conventions. I think they are trying to do the wizard mag content online, so advertising. It's funny, the mag died right before a period where new releases had a lot of speculative possibilities, lime when it started. The decade or so before it folded were not great times for new book spec. Some stuff got hot, but not like 2013 or so.
  16. Mycomicshop will grade your raw books for you and sell them on co signment. Yes, they want stuff worth $50+, but they will let some less valuable stuff in, Depending on the condition that could take care of the first 75 -130 books of several of these runs and then you just need to figure out your asking prices.
  17. Yeah, but I like juggernaut a lot even of he was introduced in a clunky fashion. With that said, spiderman 1 - 101 should probably be viewed as keys (ok, there are a couple of stinkers in there)
  18. According to their balance sheet that is not a money making proposition, but who knows, maybe they have clever accounting turning profits into losses on paper and it is a cash cow.
  19. I had at least 12 nice copies of that I could not give away 6 or 7 years ago. I put them in ebay grab bags and effectively got about $25 each (25-33% of guide at the time) for them. Ditto Moon Knight 1, Rom 1, Ms. Marvel 1, and Nova 1, basically gave them away at 25-33% of guide.
  20. I did this with a box with my son like 6 or 7 years ago. Just took a flat rate PM box and made it into a comic box and then covered it with comic cuttings 'n glue. My question, as furniture, how does the newsprint hold up or is the layer of dried glop so strong it does not matter?
  21. So there are 70 million or so shares outstanding? Sounds like they should do a 15:1 reverse split to get the price up over $1. It loses like half a million a year. Not sure where it has that market cap, but there is probably some IP value. It is a shame Wizard couldn't survive. I wonder if it had more original comic content (like 15 pages devoted per issue to a comic) whether more people would have been cool shelling out $4.99 a month for it.
  22. Should I send you a jar of crazed NYC waterbugs (aka giant roaches) to help infest your area to create more business for you? They don't fly at you angrily like the texas/Louisiana versions, they are more gliders, but they multiply rapidly. Or would you like me to send you some comics? Wombat did me a solid on the magazine forum, I can spread some holiday cheer (I forgot to sign up for the santa thing). Would a copy of Thor 339 make your day?
  23. It doesn't sound like the OP will be willing to give a refund if 3 months later someone gets the book back from CGC and it is restored.
  24. I don't think having a PLOD hurts the value more than selling the book raw and appropriately noting the likely restoration. You avoid returns because someone can't claim you understated the extent of the resto. If I bought a restored book I'd like to have a professional opinion on what was restored.
