  1. I looked up a lot of books yesterday. It is amazing how many folks list common modern books for $12-20 (getting me a little happy at first glance) that others are listing for under $5 and selling for under $5 (excitement goes away. ). It is like they list hoping a book will get hot.
  2. I don't know moderns well enough for the $8-10 books that might not be discussed here. And if I sat there looking things up on my phone the store owner would get curious. As it is it mixed the batwoman and black/Adam isis books up so he wouldn't see i was buying 10 copies. I didn't want to invest the time and have him decide to limit me to one copy each. It is a shop I have not been to an years. And probably won't be back for 2 more.
  3. It is amazing I was only able to extract about 20 $10 books (maybe) out of my 50 cent box diving taking home a shortie worth after sorting through about 10,000 comics. I'm sure I missed some, of course, but if I had paid $10 a pop per magazine box I am not sure I could make my money back on the good stuff. And, of course, it was picked through, but not THAT picked through as there were 10 pristine copies of the 52 week whatever first batwoman in there. Just goes to show that 99+% of the moderns out there are still only worth $1-2 a pop... Their value as reading material.
  4. For certain books. But there are a lot of good covers by him nobody cares about. A solid 6.5-7.5 12 or 15 cent good adams cover should be more than $10 but the folks putting money into the market now don't care unless it is a certified classic cover.
  5. Nobody had thoughts when ebay asked whether to classify as a private seller vs. A business? I wonder if I say business whether that would mean I need to do quarterly taxes vs. Just doing a schedule c as a sole proprietor. I think it would be easier to claim business expenses come tax time though, but I guess they'll want my SS number
  6. This one introduces some new characters in take it? I bought the dark reign #1 this weekend for 50 cents. Not hot.
  7. Well.. Space 1999 was ground breaking television at the time. Doomsday+1 is actually pretty cool.
  8. We trust you. But what if the coin is covering a booger or pellet gun hole? I once bought a book that had a big price tag and I stupidly did not take it out of the bag. The price tag was covering a stain! I cannot believe how stupid i was in 1993-95 not inspecting books carefully.
  9. I think the 9.4 is ok though, I just don't understand the 7.0. It is a SS so I will leave it alone. Cgc would never bump it up to an 8.0 or 8.5 or whatever it should be, so not worth trying
  10. I try not to pay attention when he is doing sunday school. He has no interest. His mother forces him
  11. Anyway, he is sad harley isn't back for a while, but he's enjoying the bloodshed in invincible. The last episode was very confusing to him.
  12. I have a 7.0 strange tales 179 that I swear looks the same as a 9.4 marvel horror book from about the same year I just bought.
  13. How dare you speak about e-man like that? He was one of charlton's best books. And OPG always claimed they were worth something. Possibly because of the byrne Rog 2000 backup stories. Anyway, I always thought the art was pretty decent and the stories were amusing.
  14. So I have finally been invited to managed payments. Is there any reason why this should not be a business account now? I am currently a private/personal account. I may not be a $20k this year, but if the $600 is a done deal i def am.
  15. Whatvis the ebay final value fee? Why do I remember it once being under 10% and now it says 12.55%? Is that because of managed payments?
  16. I remember my shop owner, who was usually pretty level headed and had already seen most of the 90s crash, tell me that genx 1 and conan 1 were books to speculate on because the high cover prices cut down on orders and we were now in a low print run era. Hah, he has no idea what was coming. In 1999 and 2000 he was saying the same thing about all the marvels basically.
  17. Yes, its boring. Each book should be analyzed individually. We've explained it before, but more obvious spec books like avengers annual 10 and probably alpha flight 1 show then more 9.8 cgc in direct correlation because shops ordered many extra on spec. 252 was at a time when spidey was a little cold so possibly shops hesitated to order extras. Not the case for 253. Possibly feeling burned on 252 they ordered more 253. Ditto thor 337 vs. 338
  18. I typically saw them on $5+ books around 1984. None of the cheaper stuff in the bins had them. I remember buying some overpriced and overgraded SA DD at a show then for $5 and being excited it had a board. Bags were the same $5 as now, what were boards per 100?
  19. Boards were a luxury commodity in 1984 if I remember correctly, reserved for the good stuff.
  20. Most shops were not so OCD about new books out on the rack either in 84/ 85. The displays there were just as likely to result in damage. Indeed many shops now have displays that can. Directs can be higher pop in high grade because comic shop collectors might have been more OCD about condition.. Maybe a false assumption because OCD people might not live near a shop and ran to the newsstand to get the Minty copy.. You get more 9.8s on a direct book shop owners bought extras of to sell later for spec. All reports were that 252 was not such a book and shops just ordered a normal amount. As at that point more newsstands might have been getting printed than directs and collectors bum rushed the newsstands to get this hot issue, it makes sense that there are more 9.8 newsies. Same with thor 337. A surprise immediately hot book. At the time of 252 there were still plenty of newsstands and spidey was a title they would carry.
  21. My 9 year old does Bane voice about 5-10% of the day. He was doing it during online Sunday school (on thursdays), he told the teacher he was doing bible character voices.
  22. Yes, boxes of miscellaneous I have gone through 5 times in the last year keep on producing new hot books. Its like a treasure hunt. Of course, I own no drek. It is called "valuable treasure"
  23. Clearly because his rendition on the harley quinn cartoon is genius
