I knew it was going big. I did not realize it was going BIG.

The one currently up is one of THE Death images for me.

I was guessing 10-12 and thought I might be a player. NOPE.

Won't lie, these prices really surprised me. But it is really nice to see an artist charge what they think their work is worth — and get it. Congrats to Tradd and Felix for knowing their audience. I can't imagine they will be wishing they had charged more when these start to change hands.

I voted for that strip. Those are some great inks.

How about one little thread for vintage illustration art?

How about one little thread for vintage illustration art?
rikemice replied to Westy Steve's topic in Original Comic Art
I don’t have much illustration art, but when I saw this at auction I had to have it. It’s a Sunday Minneapolis Tribune cover from 1946 by Oz Black. I’m always on the hunt for newspaper-related pieces, and not only does this fit the bill but it’s from the paper I currently work for. Scans of the color guide and printed product are on my CAF. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1892275 -
Would you have the writer sign the original art?
rikemice replied to Peter L's topic in Original Comic Art
Gaiman was the first writer who came to mind. I think I have seen more pages with his signature than without. ;) -
At eighty cents a day - that's a LOT of lunch. Maybe I can talk Mom into sending me with fifteen cents for an extra milk.

That's the one I wanted. Early art. Garfield and Odie. Newspaper gag. But it went way higher than I was willing to go. I ended up with a nice Sunday (that is likely by a studio artist rather than Davis), but now I have my one Garfield example and am content.

Are you content with your collection?
rikemice replied to Grant Turner's topic in Original Comic Art
Content? Yes. Done? No way. There's ALWAYS something out there I want. But prices have pushed much of it beyond my reach. So I decided to trim the fat and have had several pieces up at Heritage for the last few weeks. I've had some gains, and some losses, but it's been good overall and is going to allow me to focus on a couple of larger buys and go for quality over quantity. -
Oh, the one I missed on HA for sure. But Clink was a nice consolation prize.

Out of all of those lots (and I was watching quite a few) there was only one "must-have" for me. But someone else wanted it more. So I spent 1/10th of the hammer on a Clink win instead. :)

She was set up with Essential Sequential at the last NYCC I worked. -
Time to bar dealers from buying in YouTube claim shows
rikemice replied to a topic in Original Comic Art
Dealer or no, anyone can haggle down prices. I just don’t like the race to buy mentality of these shoes, so I rarely watch. I’d much rather take my time to make a purchase – which means I don’t get to buy much these days. -
As the owner of one of those Kieth splashes, I wish this had prices. Crazy to think all of those pages (and more) were available at once ...

Wrightson - I'll be with you on your wedding night
rikemice replied to AlexH's topic in Original Comic Art
Can confirm. I got in on the Kickstarter, received the puzzle, opened the box, said "eff that" and haven't attempted it yet. Every piece looks the same. I'll wait for winter when I can' leave the house to try it.
